Karl Wants to Address L’Affaire Donaghy

The Nuggets’ head coach wants to attack the issue forcefully, and en masse: “The NBA, Karl said, should start fighting back … Karl suggested a town-hall meeting where coaches, general managers, and league officials could address en masse Donaghy’s continuing efforts to further undermine the NBA’s integrity, which he damaged by betting on games — many of which he officiated — and passing information to gamblers. Donaghy pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges and was released from prison last month after serving nearly all of his 15-month sentence. The 60 Minutes interview was his first, with more national appearances to come with the release of his book detailing the scandal, ‘Personal Foul.’ ‘It’s a tough place for me to comment and the league to comment,’ Karl said. ‘They should have a town hall meeting, and that one day we can say whatever we want to say and get it over with. Because if it has to linger around for the next six weeks, when the book comes out and when he’s on TV all the time, then we’re going to be responding to questions that the league probably doesn’t want us to respond to. But in this same sense, maybe there should be a forum. Let’s address this one time or two times and then let it go. For me that’s the way I would like it.’”

cant believe that it never comes up that he was the lead official for the brawl game in detroit. the NBA would rather blame Ron Ron. that is mad shady

Cant wait for the book. There should be a chapter in there bout ‘superstar’ treatment

We need a townhall debate: Stern Vs Donaghy.

Then Kobe and Lebron could debate who is MVP.

Then Ray Allen, Ben Gordon, and Rip Hamilton could debate who is the best SG out of UConn.

Sounds much more fun then actual bball games. NOT.

Funny that really all Donaghy says it that he knew the ways of the refs so well that he could place a damn good bet that the game was going to one way depending on who was working the game; sounds like that town hall meeting should be about the corruption in the NBA. Surprising Karl says this when he’s got a front row seat to the “superstar treatment” (MJ, Kobe) while his teams got pwned

The NBA is preparing to have it’s skirt pulled up, hope they got on clean panies?

Donaghy’s story is plausable and really just makes sense. A lot less dramatic than I thought it would be, he did NOT say other refs fixed games or bet on them. The ‘biggest’ thing he said was that some refs don’t like certain players and that they sometimes would call fouls on them more quickly within their levels of discretion. How do you have a townhall/forum to defend against that? Calling him the single rouge ref with no credibility doesn’t make sense. As a former ref he would have insight into the inner-circle and it’s not as though he’s making claims that go against common sense or human nature. So, I don’t think there is anythig the L can do to make it seem as though there is no bias in how the refs do thier jobs – human error/judgement and bias are just a part of the reality that they have to deal with the best they can.

@The Real – I don’t see how Donaghy should get too much blame for the brawl, it was mostly out of his hands

How can u people defend anything the guy says. He was running with the mob for hells sake. Maybe he should go dig up jimmy hoffa from the grave to give his duck tales more credibility. And to say that its entertainment not a competition is downright disrespectful to the players. Every game whether at a local gym, college, or pros the players are always competing to win the game. If u disagree u’ve never played a lick of ball and should be exiled from this site go to dime mag or espn where clowns there dont know what a great bball shoes look like but talk the most sh*t.
