KG Unhappy With Perkins’s ‘Mental Lapses’

Kevin Garnett screamed at another teammate last night, but the good news is that unlike Big Baby, Kendrick Perkins did not shed tears. At least not that we know of: “While Doc Rivers said the fourth-quarter exchange between Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins was just Garnett encouraging Perkins to be more focused, Garnett said after the 92-90 loss to the Clippers that Perkins needs to reduce some of those mental lapses … ‘I think what I tried to instill in Perk’s head is composure,’ he said. ‘Being consistent with the composure part of the game. I think he’s growing as a player but mentally sometimes I think it’s a distraction when he’s sort of distracted on other things that’s going on. I told him to be a really good overall, all-around good player at both ends, you have to be able to be consistent with the mental and no one knows that more that I do. No one knows that more than I do. Knowing that I was high energy as far as being mental, I would lose it and it would end up losing games for my team. You live and learn. Although it looks animated. What I am saying is so soothing and straight to the point, at the same time give him some confidence. I thought for the most part, he absorbed what I said and used it.”‘

Straight to the point – yes
    Soothing – not so much.

    KG is a psycho

  • Coach Walt

He acts like a young KG, the things he gets techs for KG doesnt, KG taunts, elbows, and talks trash just as much as KP. He just gets excused by the refs and KP doesnt…

Perk does have a habit of getting frustrated when an opposing player is shooting well against him. That takes him out of his game on both ends. KG was right to scream at him.

Still, Perk’s one of the best defensive centers in the League. He deserves some All Star consideration…

I think as long as you understand that KG means well going in, then you should be able to extract the message thru all the yelling. SOme guys are just like that. My HS coach was crazy and called us all types of names, but he knew basketball and after my first year with him, I understood thats just his style and he helped me improve my came. My college coach was crazy and called us all types of names, but he didn’t know the game so the team tuned him out. KG has some lapses on D too, someone needs to hold him accountable as well.

As much as I hate KG’s antics on the court, the man is a true leader. Those are hard to come by in the NBA(and it hurts me to say this twice as much, giving a Celtic props, as a Sixer fan).

So KG elbowing Dwight Christmas day, which received a technical foul, isn’t a mental lapse by Garnett? KG needs to stop acting like he’s the true leader.

garnett is the truth. he’s the most valuable player on that squad (pierce included). i like what perkins has broght to the team but sometimes it seems he has to many doritos on his shoulders. he’ll be cool though.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

is kg dr. phil on the court-kg is the one who needs to see a counselor. also not good to put your teammates on blast in the media. keep it behind closed doors

According to my KG To English Dictionary, “encouraging Perkins to be more focused” = “YOU B!TCH ASS NI&&A! YOU BETTER GET YOUR F*CKIG HEAD IN THE GAME AND BULLLY THESE F*CKING FA&&OTS!”.

Perk is by far and away the worst on the team when it comes to complaining, even more so than Sheed. It’s really frustrating to see the guy put on his “I play with KG so I gotta put on a fake angry face” face instead of hustling back on defense or whatever.

  • GivemeabReak

Wrong Seth. NO ONE whines like Pierce and KG do. Pierce has always been a whiner but the bandwagon jumpers weren’t following the team then.

KG is a jerk and he needs to stop yelling at everyone when his team loses a game

  • LA Huey

Nah, Seth. It’s not a “game face”. He’s even got that look when he’s eating dinner with his grandparents.

my new favourite quote ever from Kevin Garnett was from this article:
“What I am saying is so soothing and straight to the point, at the same time give him some confidence…”

    hahaha… So soothing…

I’m unhappy with the way Perkins always looks unhappy. I think his eyebrows are stuck in that creased, pissed off look. Does he even know how to smile? The hard face gets old real quick.

    kg = heart attack

The other day my girlfriend commented on how Perkins always looks like he’s constipated. LOL

  • BostonBaller

Don’t hate on KG, his style is what got him where he is and yes he is a leader. Sometimes when the casual fan thinks a player is complaining he is actually working the refs. (Don’t let the body language fool you. Perk does need to stay focused and not let foul calls get bin his head. ALL good to great players whine so stop with the this and that player whines crap just b/c you don’t like that particular player or team. Some players complain more than others b/c they are used to getting most of the calls.

KG just got ejected & 2 techs… tha refs didnt excuse him!!!! they excused tha heat cuz they were tha ones that started tha whole drama.
