‘Sheed Expects Ref Scandal to Worsen

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Whether you choose to believe Tim Donaghy’s claims or not is a matter of personal preference. What is undeniable, however, is that the felonious ref has forced everyone to look at games and the men who police them with a much more critical (and at times, suspicious) eye.

Rasheed Wallace is one of those people; the difference between him and the majority of folks, is that ‘Sheed had been doing it since he first came into the League. He didn’t need Donaghy to tell him that something was amiss.

According to the always candid Wallace, this scandal will get a lot worse (and more embarrassing for the NBA) before it dies down.

From the Boston Herald:

“I always said to myself and had the thing that there’s no way that the things that he did he could do them by himself,” Wallace said. “I always said that. It’s virtually impossible. The things that he’s been accused of, there’s no way, to me, in my opinion, he could have done those things by himself.”

Asked if he thinks other officials were betting, Wallace said, “Possibly. “I mean, I’m not sure if they were betting or whatever. But I know it’s going to be, to me, once all this stuff comes out, it’s going to be like — what year was that? — I want to say, was it the ‘32 New York City basketball scandal?” Told it was the CCNY scandal of the ’50s that most closely matched, Wallace went on.

What’s most interesting about this, is that Donaghy himself — in one of his many, many interviews this week — cited Wallace as being a frequent target of the refs throughout his career, because he apparently saw through the charade:

“Rasheed Wallace was someone I don’t believe anyone cared for. Looking back, it’s probably because he’s one of the smartest players in the league. He was outspoken about how there were biases and how relationships affected the refereeing.”

“Ball don’t lie!”, ‘Sheed has frequently yelled out, and depending on who you choose to believe, neither does he.

  • ball above all

    it all makes sense

  • mems

whatever the case is the refs now a days are TERRIBLE! they take over the games way too much and the NBA needs to go back to being physical, not this graze a players arm and he gets two shots crap. and something needs to be done for flopping. fining players or giving them techs or something. ish has gotten crazy in the league. and wallace is probably getting fined for this lol.

  • Hussman25

One day.. It will all make sense! Refs treated mike like a god when he was playing; all of this is not surprising…. but will def put egg on Commish Stern’s face!

  • Sparker

    mike was god

they should make Sheed the Inspector of this whole matter. cause he’ll take you to court!

  • Dusty Hutchins

ball dont lie haha i like that

I think Sheed was just giving J.E.Skeets’ blog a shout out when he was yelling ‘Ball don’t lie’ though….

  • Bruno

    sheed knows his stuff

  • vtrobot

of course sheed will get fined. stern won’t have anyone criticizing his perfect, unbiased group of referees and actually speaking the truth. bring on the robot refs and instant replays. it’s the same sh*t with the umps in baseball. we have the technology now, so f*ck these clowns, and f*ck tradition. this is why a lot of us love sheed.

Sheed is officially “The Grumpy Old Man” of the NBA…he’s still the most quoatable player in the league though.

  • LA Huey

I’m enjoying every last bit of what Sheed’s got left in the tank.

  • riggs

    gotta love roscoe

  • doom

  • Chazz Michael Michaels

Donaghy is the aid’s virus of the nba…

  • jumpman3224

Trust me if refs were fixing games so the outcomes would be what the league wanted them to be, Sheed would not have a ring.

  • heartlandG

U’ll never get a perfect or unbiased game, unless refs is robots, but it’ll still be a margin of error in that situation too

  • vtrobot

@ doom: you realize that was donaghy who he cornered by the loading dock after the game in portland years ago, right?

@ jumpman3224: maybe the refs just hated the glove even more. i can imagine that. dude NEVER stopped jawing.

  • heartlandG

How you figure that @ jumpman? Refs beef w Sheed < the Celtics winning a ship=story book ending, stoopid $$$$ being made, and one of tha storied teams Boston winning a championship with 3 hall of famers

  • heartlandG

    …well 2 hall of famers

  • solito

Two things: Rasheed is getting a record fine. I think he has to flip 7-Figures. Second: Watch him get T’d up in a record numbers to get the tech-based one game suspention as a christmas present from the refs.

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

Both teams bet hard, my man

  • ClydeSays

Of course the NBA refs have bias. They’re human. That said, a player should be able to show emotion on the court, or yell something or speak their minds within reason without getting T’d up or fined.

If Sheed thinks he’s being treated unfairly, why can’t he say something? There’s no crime in that.

  • BostonBaller

There is bias in everything but not to the point where teams win the chip from it or The Knicks wouldn’t suck so bad. Sheed is Sheed and sometimes Roscoe but no matter who he is he is ours!!!

  • jdubbs29

Asked if he had direct evidence, Sheed said
“I did, but we done smoked it all up”

  • underdog

All I can say, is that you ‘gotta love Sheed for being Sheed.

  • http://www.slamonline.com barnabusb

This Donaghy stuff is just getting silly now. Did people really have no idea there were biases and crooked things going on with the refs and the league in general? I like how the interviewers are always like, “Wait a minute, wait a minute. So what you’re saying is that……the refs had BIAS towards certain PLAYERS? Oh…my…God.”

  • vtrobot

mike bibby’s bloody nose was a big clue that something was up.

  • http://youknowhec@aol.com Hangtime Hec

lmao At barnabusb. None of this should come to a suprise. With power comes abuse.

  • d.j.

1 milion furfillion gazillion trillion dollar fine for Sheed ?! o i think so… Wait till Stern hears this////

  • tavoris

    @heartland-all 3 are getting in.

  • Clark

Man, first Sheed gets in trouble for threatening TD. Now TD is on Sheed’s side (or vice versa?)and TD is still going to get Sheed in trouble. Tough life. No wonder he has to get high…

  • Johnson

lawl sheed has been using that ball don’t lie quote forever, they used to do close ups and the announcers in the rose garden would always say it with him after bad calls, till all of Portland started hating him and damon lol, nobody cared once the jailblazer era started.

  • jumpman3224

@heartlandG: I was talking about the ring that Sheed already has, you may remember the 2004 Pistons topping the Lakers with 4 future HOFers.

@vtrobot: maybe, but im thinking if the outcome was up to the league and not just a ref bias the Lakers would have had the edge.

@tavoris: agreed. I’m not a Boston fan but all 3 of those cats are getting in. no doubt.

  • Da Hood

Sheed and A.I. are the truth and thats how the Truth in our world gets treated. The league is fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://theghostofroyhobbs.blogspot.com Mo Charlo

I don’t want to live in a world where Rasheed doesn’t have a stump to shout from.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Smart man, that Sheed.

  • http://www.youtube.com/ The Promise

Always been one of my favorite players. I am not 100 percent sold on everything Donaghy has said about what went on, considering he has nothing to lose. But I do believe some of it is credible. And, jumpman 3224, FYI, had it not been for terrible officiating, there would most likely be a group of Kings (Webber, Bibby, Peja, Christie, etc.) that would have rings on their fingers.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

AI and Sheed two of the most real about NBA issues and two of the most hated. The league is definitly fixed. Nash got robbed of a ring cas of the refs and AI lost games cas of the refs but imagine all those Eastern Confrence exits for Detroit. Donaghy also said they hated Billups and Billups and Sheed on the same team. damn.

  • dma

    Sheed for President 2016

  • Big Marv

    I’m with pardeep and dma

  • Ronald

People should look at the article about Lebron James foul rate. Trust me, it’ll open your eyes about how the NBA refs dictate the games.

  • jumpman3224

@The Promise I’m not saying that officating doesn’t sometimes favor a team or player in a particular game or series. I don’t think you can really fully ever blame officating on a series going one way or another, but that’s just an opinion. All I was saying was that if Donaghy was right and the officials were fixing series in favor of what the league wanted, I doubt Sheed would have a ring in the first place because the league would not want that Det. team to beat that LA team.

  • vtrobot

Can I fully blame the officiating on taking away a ring from Dirk? OK, maybe not full. 30% choking and 70% phantom calls?

  • rikson

The NBA has gotten way to soft over the years…. Its not a game for little girls, damn it!

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

Now sheed actually thinks he is right? Uh-oh

  • ClydeSays

To Ronald’s point: Last night in the Cavs/Rockets game last night Lebron took it to the hole, missed, and didn’t get the call. Ariza was defending him straight up and all the contact was from Lebron.

Mike Brown was LIVID there was no call & got T’d up as a result.

The implication seemed to be “WHAT?! You’ve been giving him superstar calls all along and NOW you’re going to stop?! WTF?!”

It made me wonder if someone suggested that the refs try to call the game with less Superstar bias?
