The Chinese Invest in LeBron and the Cavs

LeBron has a new boss, er business partner, frantically entering the fray. Kenny Huang envisions big things for his superstar forward: “By the end of the year, Huang will likely finish another deal, completing the purchase of a 15 percent stake in the Cavs, representing the first major investment by the Chinese in American pro sports. That ownership deal, signed in May during the Eastern Conference Finals, will sell former Cavs Vice Chairman David Katzman’s 15 percent to a group led by Huang … With an estimated 300 million basketball fans, the chance to capitalize on the Chinese fan base is potentially even greater than in the U.S. Which is why James has been trying to promote products there, especially through Nike. ‘LeBron is a very smart man and he’s doing very well with his management team,’ Huang said. ‘I’m sure they are looking into a lot of endorsement opportunities. He already has a lot of credibility in China and now I’m sure these deals happening will bring a lot of opportunities for him there.’ Huang said interest in the Cavs has exploded in China and they have surpassed the Houston Rockets, who have Chinese national hero Yao Ming, in popularity. The Cavs are second to only the Los Angeles Lakers in overall profile. This year there will be 34 games broadcast on Chinese television and there are Chinese media members based in Cleveland who cover the team.”

How pissed will they be when Lebron leaves for new york?

  • JoeMaMa

Lebron gets to make his own shoes now!

  • wilz

anderson varejao jerseys are gonna sell like hotcakes in ’11

  • http://www.commuto.com Steve

“A” Chinese has invested in the Cavs, not the government of China.

Another reason, but maybe only number 7 or 9, that Lebron will stay in Ohio,

  • Royal

Steve: A Chinese???……..J/K I know what you mean

  • Teddy-the-Bear

According to Russ, the Cleveland Cavaliers shouldn’t have done this. Because, apparently foreign investment means loss of money. LOL.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Yep, that’s exactly what I meant.

Damn hes goin to be upset cause even if lb stays they arent goin to do S**t

  • Robb

Damn, the 2 things I dislike the most: Chinese guys and Lebron.

  • Joe’s Sister/Wife

Robb and Joe, I think you guys mistook SLAMonline for your monthly Klan meeting. That already happened LAST week, in your uncle’s–or is it your fathers?–trailer.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Robb and Joe, I think you guys mistook SLAMonline for your monthly Klan meeting. That already happened LAST week, in your uncle’s–or is it your fathers?–trailer. The only thing worse than a racist is an inbred racist.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Note: SLAM is obviously not racist. Just to clarify.

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

Robb: so was it a chinese guy or Lebron who made love to your girlfriend when you weren’t home? What? Both? Eazy Yi and Lebron double team? Sorry to hear that man…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL @ Jukai. Nicely done, my dude.

  • Ricky G

Hey Robb two things you dislike the most aye??? Well you’re the ONE thing we all HATE on this board right now! If this were a parley (party) you’d be getting stomped by timbo’s, ACG’s and suede wallabies!

  • Rnz

The contract stipulates that LeBron have to change his name to Lee Bron James

  • DEC

The headline really does give the impression of having been written by the kind of redneck who would also refer to “the gays” or “the Jews.”

  • JoeMaMa

Joe: doesn’t buy any sportswear from Nike, Adidas, etc., because they use sports stars to convince people to ignore the fact that the merchandise is made under duress (in countries like China) at an incredibly low rate of pay. Many of the workers only have enough to pay for food and lodging, leaving them in a position where they work there because there’s no other option. LeBron James wants to increase the market there? I think I just heard ten million Chinese workers sighing. I’m against the governments who create these deals with these filthy multinationals at the expense of their people, and also the people who buy this stuff because they’d rather look good in bonded labour-made garments than affect change. I love the game. But I hate the GAME.

  • Alimoe

Thruth right here i second to that JoeMaMa.
Love the game but hate the playaz

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

Boring topic, Jukai dribbles the ball for 20 seconds at the top of the key…this is for the win…YES! And it counts!

  • robb

Racism would be hating a race, and I actually love japanese people, korean people, etc. Relax.

Funny thing: No one defending Lebron. That’s pretty cool.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Chinese people are a race, Robb.

  • robb

No, they are not. It would be like saying Swedish, or Spanish or Irish are races. Those are nationalities.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Are you serious? You’ve just lost all credibility. The Irish are a distinct ethnic group, as are the Spanish, as are the CHINESE. So yes, all are distinct ‘races’ of people. Its baffling why you are trying to argue this.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I’m not going to sit here and go back and forth with someone as dumb as you, robb. Your last comment says it all; I won’t even try and explain that the Chinese and Japanese are two distinct peoples with different histories, or that the Irish and Spanish are too–sh!t, even the characters in King of the Hill know this. You’re on some beyond King of the Hill stupidity. Maybe you should retake social studies; maybe if you took your head out of that stupid-looking white hood and opened your eyes for once, you’d realize. The only thing worse than an inbred racist is an ignorant, inbred racist who doesn’t think he is one.
I thought Jukai and Ricky G already shut you up, neck.

  • JoeMaMa

Teddy, a note on the Spanish(and most other countries): they are a mix of ethnicities, languages (Catalan, Castillan, Basque, etc.) and cultures united under one flag. A country does not necessarily make a race…though I see where you’re going with that one.
See, this is why playground ball is the best. No contracts, megadeals for advertising, crooked refs…the business of sport is killing the pro game.

  • http://www xiaonan

I am an Chinese guy live in the US now and I am not a American borned chinese. I feel good after I have seen many of you guys cursing that racist-Robb. I have nothing to say since all of you guys are cool. r u all americans?
PS: I am waiting to see the combination of Lebron and Yao.
