The Post Up: Blazers Nation

We’re with you.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

Portland.

You all have my sincerest thoughts. I just don’t know what to say in a time like this. I felt like this with Greg Oden, now Joel Przybilla goes down and is out indefinitely with a ruptured patella tendon and a dislocated patella in his right knee.

There really are no words.

How one team can be dealt injuries like this so close together, I know, we will say it’s part of the game, but wow. Nate McMillan’s response said it all: Hands on his head, face halfway between cringing and smiling because this can’t be life. Only it is.

Aghh. Sucks. Isn’t any other way to put it. Stay strong, Blazers nation.

While we’re talking about things that didn’t make us happy, Shaun Livingston. You all know how much I love this guy, because many of you love him just as much. Growing up on SLAM, seeing the then 15 year old SL in the mag when I was 15, yeah, I thought I’d get to cover him as his career unfolded. Hasn’t quite turned out like that yet and the Thunder waived him last night as they brought in Eric Maynor from Utah.

Now. This does just suck. Livingston went through this last season and bounced around a bit before being picked up by Oklahoma City. I still believe he will get picked up again. I just hope it’s sooner than later. If there is one guy who has worked so very hard to get back and play the game that he loves, it’s Shaun. Add in the fact that he’s one of the nicest, most humble people you will ever meet — we’re talking people, not just professional athletes– and I just want to see it work out for him.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m home in Nova Scotia and my mother doesn’t have League Pass. I have Broadband, but can’t lie, I didn’t really watch much bball last night. I saw the Lakers/Thunder and some of the Knicks/Bulls (a game I was convinced the Bulls would win, taking their anger out on the Knicks from the night before, but nope… I was wrong), but the majority of my night was spent with my mother.

The Lakers did not look good through most of the first half last night. Kobe looked great, until he went down funny and gave me a heart attack. From looking terrified and not okay, to hearing the MVP chants as he hit free throws down the stretch, the Lakers executed when they needed to, but damn, a Russ Westbrook three rattled in and out before the LA crowd could breathe easily. 21 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists for Westbrook in the loss. KD had 30 before fouling out late.

Kobe watch: 40 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals. Five more turnovers, but he made up for it. Another 40 point night. Another W.

About the NBATV coverageL I’m loving McHale and C-Webb on the panel. Thought it was funny when Webb was talking about the Thunder at the end of the game, not having a timeout.

I also enjoyed Gil Arenas dropping in 31 points and eight assists as he led the Wizards over the Sixers in Washington last night. He looks more like himself out there. He looks comfortable. Of course it was going to take time. I think a lot of people thought he’d just BE the player that he was two years ago. That’s a long time to be away from the game on a nightly basis and even more than the physical rhythm and conditioning, it’s the mental game that needs to return. Knowing when to attack and trusting yourself to do it. Getting that feel for the situation, the extra instinct that a lot of players may never have. Gil’s getting there.

I’m thankful.

I mentioned this yesterday, but I still cannot believe that Lou Williams is back from a broken jaw. That’s just wild.

That’s really all I’ve got for today.

Oh, wait. 33 points and 18 reobunds from Zach Randolph in a Memphis victory over the Warriors. He is really, really doing it big in Memphis, hey?

And…. Carl Landry ties his career-high with 27 points in his first game back since having his dental surgery and fixing his teeth. Hope he was flashing his smile after that game. He deserved to.

Sorrry about this post being hidden. I somehow managed to set the day date as Dec 22nd, not the 23rd. Ryne, sorry for the email. Blahhhh. My brain does not like being sick, obviously. Have a great day guys.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Holly! Why do you hate Gerald Wallace so much? 29 Points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks, 2 steals…All while playing with concussion like symtoms (which caused him to sit out the previous game vs the Knicks).

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Is that just not good enough to make the post up these days Holly? Has the bar really been set that high?

  • http://www.clutchfans.com/ Blue

Carl Landry was certainly flashing the smile after he dunked on Captain Kaman…who also had a career high. Landry’s toughness is throwback. Jerry Sloan is so jealous of Rick Adelman right now…

  • Ken

@BETCats. I think she’s afraid the praise will go to his head. And with Crash’s history of concussions, we don’t want anything going to his head.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Because Wallace play for the Cats… obviously.
    Kobe set’s it high.
I feel Ghostfaces pain. After my two surgeries… I finally got back on the court 3 weeks ago. I had a 54 point game and a 47 point game. Then my next game I sprained my thumb and re-injured the bone in my wrist. Possibly more surgery. Almost two years off of the court… I hate seeing other people have major injuries and major surgery. Hopefully he has quick healing. And hopefully BRoy is okay…

  • riggs

rip city takes on a whole new definition now huh

  • riggs

yo the lakers are the thunders b*tch this year, they just need to finish it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Riggs, OKC has the Lakers number. If OKC make the 8th seed in the playoff’s. That is a possible upset!!

  • http://hoopmixtape.ning.com/ Simon S.Y Lawy

Gerald Wallace play like a beast, he’s just 6’7 …

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

C-A-M-P–F-I-R-E camp fire song. C-A-M-P–F-I-R-E camp fire song it would help if you just sing along.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

I am really jealous of Holly being in Nova Scotia and I am not. Miss all of my mother’s Christmas baking. The East coast is great!!!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    13th!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Anyone else heard about Wade saying that Bron and him definitely talked about playing together next year and even taking pay cuts to make it work? My mind just exploded. I get a feeling that if that would happen it wouldn’t be in Miami or Cleveland because one would look like tagging along. Chi-town? Clips? NY? NJ?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

The Lakers number? They’ve lost 3534634 straight games against them. There are no moral victories in the pros. That’s like saying that Magic were close to beating LA in the finals because the games came down to the wire. No, they got their a–es handed to them in 5 games.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Chris Bosh and Wade will be together at the start of next season. Not Bron and Wade.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Well a close game to the Lakers that they win is basically a loss. It’s not like the Bobcats where if you lose by 25 it’s a moral victory. The Lakers should be killing OKC. But they are not… they are getting killed then somehow find a way to pull it out in the end.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I think the Nets are the natural best fit for Lebron and Wade. Brook Lopez – whoever they draft at Power Forward (or Yi) – Lebron – Wade – Harris plus a CDR/Courtney Lee/Terrance Williams/Josh Boone/Rafer Alston bench is good enough to win it all.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

And if the Nets get them both, then manage to move to either Brooklyn or Newark they will become the hottest market in the NBA. Only the Lakers would be as hot/slightly hotter.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

That would be crazy. Lee Harris, Wade, Bron and Lopez … DAMN!!!
I don’t think they would be able to keep Lee or Harris. One of them would be gone. And proably Yi as well.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

^Not if Lebron/Wade take paycutts to ensure they stay. Which they already said they would do.

Umm, what kind of pay cuts do you think they will take lol? The will take one SUPERSTAR salary like bron’s. And split it in half. They won’t be taking a 90 million dollar pay cut lol. Not happening.

  • http://www.mynameinblue.blogspot.com Hisham

    Zach Randolph. That is all.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I think they will take just enough to ensure that Harris stays (is he even becoming a free agent though?). Yi and Lee are both replaceable.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Plus as soon as Wade and Lebron sign to a team together, every single role player and minor star player are all going to be fighting for a roster spot on that team, and will take pennies on the dollar in order to ensure they get a chance to be a part of a championship team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Lee is a good person to keep around though.
Weird. Because I don’t think it will be like that at all. You basically say… okay I am going to play with bron and Wade … I will maybe get 2 shots a game. Between the two of them it’s around40-45 shots a game.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I went to a game in Miami last week and Wade is just not staying. That city doesn’t care for pro basketball. What Cleveland can offer is unlimited funds and an owner that’s not cheap. The Knicks do have major cap space though, they only have 27 mil commited to next year. I always kinda dismissed the whole NY thing but Wade/Bron + 3 effective starters is a virtual lock for ‘ships (plural). Yeah, nothing is ever guaranteed but…sheesh.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

I’ll tell ya what though. Mike Brown would NOT be able to coach Wade and Bron lol… you will need a head coch that they both will listen too. So when there is 6 seconds on the clcok and the coach wants to run a play. There is no macho head games of who takes the last shot.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

Carl Landry is the Warrior of the decade. Being shot, losing teeth, career high after losing teeth. The man is more Bruce Willis than Kobe and his finger.

  • http://www.mynameinblue.blogspot.com Hisham

    I’m with NiQ 100%

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Wade is a playmaker. Lebron is a playmaker. They know how to provide for their teammates. Lebron’s main fault as a player is he tries to set guys up too much. Both Wade and Lebron were drafted as point guards. Their will be plenty of shots for everybody. Plus, with all the match up issues Lebron and Wade cause, their will be a lot of open shots. Sure the Nets wont be able to get a 3rd ultra-star (the level Kobe, Lebron, Wade are on) but i think they will be able to keep Harris and surround Lebron, Wade, Lopez and Harris with the supporting cast they need.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

It will have to be alot of guys who don’t care about even getting A shot a game. I mean. The Lakers starting line is stacked. Kobe takes about 21 shots a game. Bynum around 12, Pau around 16 … you will have two guys basically taking half of your shots or more.
The success rate is high, and the failure rate is low, but it’s not losing that will be the problem. It will be keeping people happy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

IMO anyways … last time I checked I wasn’t always right lol.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

This is off topic: the Manny-Mayweather fight is off! All because Manny refused to take a random blood test. Then Manny’s trainer called Floyd a coward. Im starting to think Manny is dirty.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I see what your saying James. But you guys just got Ron Artest this summer, and that is with Bynum, Odom, and Shannon Brown all fighting to be the 3rd wheel in the Kobe/Gasol show.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

I KNOW. Well it isn’t off yet. manny won;’t take the blood test because he is scared of needles… but has tattoos!!!! Fu(king punk!!!! Manny is dirty. What a little girl. It’s such a big fight they shoiuld have to take every drug test needed.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

But BET … that is with Kobe. He makes everything work ; )!!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

No, Manny will take a drug test. But he wont take a random drug test. Something about that isnt right.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

THANK YOU HOLLY IN THE NAME OF THE TRAIL BLAZERS!!! AND THEY WON IN DALLAS TOO, WITH DIRK BACK…CAN YOU SAY RRRRRIIIIIPPP CCIIITTYYYY!!?!?!?!?!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Great players make it work. Those two guys are very unselfish and always look for the open man. Sometimes, people forget that basketball is a fluid game like soccer or hockey. Yes, you have your designated positions but line-ups can be altered to suit needs. This is not baseball or even football. When you have these two guys on the floor, the job of the pg is to defend, bring the ball up, make open shots. That’s it. Bigs have to be able to defend, rebound and be ready for drive n dishes. That’s it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Manny won’t do the olympic drug test. Which is blood work. Re said he doesn’t care about random drug test, because those are urine test’s. But he is scared of neeedles and won’t do an olympic blood test.
Which I agree, there is something not right about that.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

also…PORTLAND COULD HAVE JONH WALL NEXT YEAR, cause Im affraid they will lose a lot without 6 key players…BE SCARED LAKERS!!! PORTLAND 2011 NBA CHAMPS!! FO SHOW

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

^Portland doesnt need John Wall. They have Roy, Bayless, Webster, Blake, and Miller. They have enough guards

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

James, he said he would take a blood test after the fight. But he wont take a random blood test, or any type or random drug test for that matter. The fight was then cancelled.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Yeah, another good pg/sg will help the Blazers… they don’t have enough of them.

  • http://slamonline.com Holly MacKenzie

BETCATS, I don’t have league pass here, I didn’t see any of the Bobcats. Not trying to shut your guy out. I’ve written about his rebounding average recently. Dude is insane. His bigmen should be ashamed they are not helping him out more. Love he and Jack together. They are a good pair in terms of toughness and grit.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Its alright Holly. I was just joking. I havent been on here enough to critize you for not showing Wallace love. I dont got any computer classes this year.

  • http://myspace.com/brandnew Bryan

    Knicks!

  • JoeMaMa

It took Jordan and Pippen several years and a hall of fame coach with carefully selected role players before they won. And every year it took 6 games to win (save the lakers series), and those championships took BIG last shot (jordan, kerr, paxson…jordan, jordan…). If Lebron and Wade sign up together with a few decent players, that in no way means championship. I think they’d be instant contenders, but there are alot of unknowns: will the owner go over the cap? Spend money on a coach? Egos mesh? Injuries? And more. Did anyone think a team of Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton, and a quality bench would lose to the Pistons!?!
