Vinny Del Negro’s Job on the Line

This is what happens when your team is unexpectedly 7-13, and has lost four in a row, with an average margin of defeat of nearly 21 points per game: “Whether or not Vinny Del Negro is to blame for this sudden deep lull, an absence of effort reflects poorly on the coach. So his future probably depends on the Bulls showing up ready to play Friday against Golden State. They complete a stretch of four games in five nights against Boston on Saturday, which has a chance to be ugly. If the Bulls lose by 30 again this weekend, change is probably inevitable. I’d say keep an eye on the middle of next week, because general managers like to pick a soft part of the schedule to switch coaches. That way, the new guy snares a couple wins and it looks like everyone’s a genius. Next Tuesday, the Lakers come to town for another blowout alert game. After that, the Bulls get New York, Atlanta and Sacramento at home, Knicks on the road, three-day holiday break, then New Orleans and Indiana at home.”

How the hell does Vinny Del Negro have a job and Kareem, Patrick Ewing, Paul Silas, and Avery Johnson don’t? Hopfully this is not a question I’ll have to ask myself much longer.

This is what happens when your team is unexpectedly 7-13, and has lost four in a row, with an average margin of defeat of nearly 21 points per game…and your franchise player is ranked so high on SLAM’s top 50 list.

lol LeoneL. Yea, I guess they’re starting to miss Ben Gordon right about now. And have learned Salmons is not a reliable nor efficient shooter. Basically to turn this around, Rose will have to ACTUALLY average what people on SLAM thought he would.. something along the lines of 20 points and 8 assists. Hey those look like Marbury numbers…

Good. Get his ass out of there.

and does anyone want to answer for me this question: Why the HELL is Derrick Rose playing a passive, lackadaisical game as opposed to attacking and playing explosive basketball? With a skill set like he has, he should be the focus of every offensive possession, yet the Bulls seem quite content letting Deng and Salmons shoot contested 20-footers. I’m embarrassed for this team its ugly in the windy city

I said this a few weeks ago but I’ll say it again. BRING IN BYRON SCOTT! oh yeah, and don’t trade Tyrus Thomas.

  • Tommy Patron

Vinny’s gotta go. Why the Bulls don’t run the pick and roll all the time, I have no idea. It could be really effective doing a 1-3 with Rose and Deng, or, of course, Rose-Miller as in the playoffs last year.

  • The D Train

I love the Bulls, but sans League Pass I do not get to watch them much, so I may be off-base here…is Rose too passive? I know he was hurt, but even in the playoffs last year he seemed all too willing to let the vets run the show. I would guess this is also a function of Vinny being Vinny. Bring in a PG-centric coach and make it clear in no uncertain terms that the offense starts and ends with Rose. Salmons and Deng are good spot-up shooters, and Noah and Thomas can clean up, but none of them are nearly as capable of creating in the ways that Rose can.

Stick a fork in Vinny D… HE’S GONE!

  • slamfan4life

i first had faith in him…..but DAMN Vinny!!

  • LeoneL

@niQ, they gotta be missing Ben..especially with Kirk playing like Sessions nowadays…oh, at least Kirk’s out with an injury.

There is no evidence, at any level (HS, NCAA, NBA), that D. Rose can dominate games consistently.

  • LeoneL

Well, the way the Knicks are playing lately, they might even beat the Bulls…and Tyreke Evans would surely will the Kings to win over the slumping Bulls.

Del Negro isn’t the only problem, 1/3 of Chi’s roster stays on injury reserve for 1/2 of the season. How can u give u’r all every night when u never get a break and there is no one who will step up. Chicago needs roster changes ASAP

larrylegend:I knew I was forgetting somebody. Thanks.

IMO Rose is not a dominant personality, he’s the classic baby brother. It’ll take a while to come out of that shell (If at all). I agree with the opinions that all the other players need to be ordered to get on board with being DRose’s supporting cast.

  • Orlando Woolridge

I heard Stacey King mention that he thought the Bulls should be running more. I agree. With Noah out there, the starting five can all move, so why not press more on defense and get out and run? It seems it would be a better game plan for the roster they have. The results couldn’t be any worse.
    Sup Tommy.

  • ThaWindy

Yup they gotta get Vinny out of their. Should have sign Avery fresh out of Dallas. They have to get some one to play with there back to the basket.

Bulls have locker room issues. You can see it on the court.

And I think Rose could easily get four more point per game. They need to build the team around him and get rid of everybody who not going along with that. ride.

  • Tommy Patron

What up, O?! Hey, too bad you got screwed out of your scoring title with that eye injury. Seems like Vinny is yelling at the team to run every time they get the ball, but, on the real, no one seems to know how to fill a lane.

  • Rich

Brad, they all have JOBS, just not coaching jobs.

  • http://Www.lollercoasters.com Dr. West

Wow how racist can the Bulls be? Just because he has Negro in his name
    wow… I’m appalled.
