Meet Anthony Randolph, Trade Bait

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

This season, much has been made about Don Nelson’s refusal to give second-year forward Anthony Randolph an adequate amount of playing time. Most people were confused by this decision (he’s Nellie after all), and Warriors fans for the most part were infuriated.

According to multiple reports out of the Bay Area, the Warriors might not need to deal with the Randolph “problem” for much longer, as the team is said to be willing to trade him.

From the San Fransisco Chronicle:

Anthony Randolph is among the players the Warriors are shopping in trade talks, according to two high-level NBA executives, though team sources say no move is imminent.

Tuesday’s news is a drastic change from a month ago. During the Stephen Jackson trade talks, which culminated with a Nov. 16 transaction, potential suitors were told that Randolph was off limits. A lot has changed since then, and trades for Randolph are being considered. It has become obvious that Monta Ellis can be a leader, and it is equally obvious that he needs a star to play alongside him.

It’s no secret that Randolph is unhappy in Golden State; most times he either seems to be on the verge of crying, or he’s shouting at his coach (Nellie or his replacement, Keith Smart.) What’s interesting and a tad crazy is that the Warriors recognize that his attitude is an issue, but that his talent is also “limitless”. So naturally, they must get rid of him. Brilliant.

For what it’s worth, here are the names being reportedly considered in the trade discussions: Carlos Boozer, Caron Butler, Tyrus Thomas, David West and Chris Bosh.

i would look to move randolph if your going to get a great player in return, someone that can help revive the bay arena and wants to be there…. but who fills those shoes??

  • thesubwayconnection Posted: Dec.16 at 9:24 am
Probably none of those people listed.

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.16 at 9:26 am
man, whoever gets him is gonna be HAPPY.

  • riggs Posted: Dec.16 at 9:29 am
    send him to the bulls

  • Hussman25 Posted: Dec.16 at 9:33 am
He’s mad because he’s not playing and also he’s in a losing situation… Saw him here in Philly the other night and the Kid would look WONDERFUL as a Sixer! It would never happen, but the possibility of him, Thad and Iggy (dont like iggy but they, the Sixers, will never trade him) would be young, fast and plenty of “posterized” moments!
Wherever he goes he will make that franchise very happy… and successful!

  • ave. joe Posted: Dec.16 at 9:44 am
“Carlos Boozer, Caron Butler, Tyrus Thomas, David West and Chris Bosh.” ???? Are they for real??? Those guys are stars…Is Randolph really THAT good?? You can’t trade talent for potential….come on now!

  • Jacqueline Mitchell Posted: Dec.16 at 9:46 am
What the hell are the Golden State Warriors trying to do? Run away their fans? (If they haven’t already).

  • Shaun Posted: Dec.16 at 9:50 am
BRING HIM TO DALLAS! PLEASE! I love Dirk and everything but we either need to have a championship Pistons type line-up or another legit number one. You know what I say? Lets get Chris Bosh, LaMarcus Aldridge, AND Deron Williams to go with Randolph (develop Randolphs shot and move him to the three). I’m talkin an all D-Town lineup, who would be able to run with that? And I guess we could get CJ Miles to fill out the two spot…

  • Shrugz Posted: Dec.16 at 9:51 am
I’d have an attitude problem if I destroyed the summer league and got 5 minute one night and 20 minute the next and then benched the next night and then 30 minutes the next one. and then 5 the next (etc etc)

  • whitey Posted: Dec.16 at 9:54 am
Trade tyrus thomas for anthony randolph bulls need a good big guy and i love tyrus but he just hasnt really produced for the bulls.

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Dec.16 at 10:01 am
Anthony, we’re trading you for Tyrus. Also known as The Ghost of Christmas Future. And hi to the ghost of Vinny Del Negro for us!!

  • davidR Posted: Dec.16 at 10:23 am
you see what i mean? where are all the warrior experts that think stephen jackson really was a problem (other than his contract which he would’ve been dumb to turn down)? how many more players will warrior “fans” turn into scapegoats (corey maggette), when it’s so obvious the upper management needs to go?

  • niQ Posted: Dec.16 at 10:30 am
This team is in such a mess. I can’t believe they don’t give Randolph more playing tmie..

  • niQ Posted: Dec.16 at 10:31 am
and by tmie. i mean time.

  • RM Posted: Dec.16 at 10:55 am
Wasn’t there a rumour about Randolph and Biedrins for Bosh sometime before? Am I crazy? I don’t mind how that sounds, to be honest.

  • Goat Posted: Dec.16 at 11:06 am
I realize now is probably the time to ship Bosh (while he’s putting up MVP type numbers) or he’s gunna walk for nothing in the offseason, which is the cursed history of our franchise (see T Mac and Vince – well Vince held us ransom and we got a couple bums named Williams and had to pay Zo NOT to play for the Raps, but that’s another story). Anyways, what was I saying? Oh yeah, if the Raps are gunna get in on this Randolph trade game, can we please send one of our weak white boys instead? Or if Bosh is included, get something else too Bry Co, please!

  • a_whiteman Posted: Dec.16 at 11:24 am
Plz oh plz don’t let bosh go to g state its already bad enough he’s stuck in tdot

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.16 at 11:27 am
The players mentioned make no sense. Randolph makes less than $2 mil per year and all of the players mentioned make anywhere from $10-$15 million per. The Warriors would have to add in a player like Maggette or Biedrins to make this even a possibility.

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.16 at 11:42 am
agreed TADOne…I think people are just looking at talent alone. That’s why us minions aren’t GM’s.

  • Nick Gibson Posted: Dec.16 at 11:49 am
What’s this? A trade rumor NOT mentioning the Knicks? Must be Heaven…

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.16 at 12:39 pm
Knicks should ship Larry Hughes and Jordan Hill for Randolph and Maggette. Maggette comes off the books next summer, too. Larry Hughes had six turnovers last night… and he’s a shooting guard.

  • Orlando Woolridge Posted: Dec.16 at 12:44 pm
Dear Santa, this Christmas I would like one Anthony Randolph please. In return for your kindness, I will happily give you a Tyrus Thomas. I know we’ve been bad all year, but please forgive us just this once. Love, the Bulls.

  • Da Hood Posted: Dec.16 at 1:03 pm
If the Cavs have any shot of keeping Bron, it would start with this trade, but Ferry isnt that Bright.

  • Joe Posted: Dec.16 at 1:48 pm
I would love to see him in Phoenix.
And I’m pretty sure Amare would love to be in Golden State, they dont Rebound or play Defense, that sounds like a perfict fit to me………………Randolph, Biendrins, for Amare

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Dec.16 at 1:50 pm
    come on rc buford!

  • JB Posted: Dec.16 at 2:00 pm
Is it really that unimaginable that no one on the Warriors should be “un-tradeable”??

  • brian Posted: Dec.16 at 2:07 pm
davidR, I don’t know any warriors fans who are blaming the players now. Everyone is finally realizing after 20 years that Chris Cohan (owner) and the upper management is the problem. Ticket sales are down about 23% and all Cohan thinks about is how he can get that 23% back as quickly as possible. All about profit and not about winning…please sell! Larry Ellison is interested…

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.16 at 2:09 pm
    @JB, Stephen Curry is…that’s Nellie’s “golden child”

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.16 at 2:20 pm
@Teddy: actually, Maggette has 4 years left on his contract.

  • [...] talent, they need to hold onto Randolph and hope that he can figure out his issues in Oakland. Slam Online reported that the following players are being mentioned in trade rumors involving Rand…. With the exception of Tyrus Thomas, any of those three players would be a talent upgrade to [...]

  • TONEY BLARE Posted: Dec.16 at 2:43 pm
god would he and CP3 do well together. trade dwest and peja and julian wright for he and magette.

  • JB Posted: Dec.16 at 3:32 pm
No one is Nellie’s golden child, don’t let Poker Face Nellie fool you. If he could take Nash back right now for Curry, he’d do it. Brian is spot on. If anyone should be traded, it should be Cohan and Rowell. Larry is interested, unfortunately, not at the price Cohan wants. Which proves how out of tune he really is.

  • SAB Posted: Dec.16 at 3:55 pm
    c’mon Utah, make this happen…

  • nbk Posted: Dec.16 at 4:35 pm
Anthony Randolph should be traded to Orlando for Marcin Gortat

  • nbk Posted: Dec.16 at 4:37 pm
or trade him for John Bender lol

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.16 at 4:55 pm
Oh TAD, are you serious? Woops. Who comes off the books for Golden State then? No one?

  • Rocky Posted: Dec.16 at 5:46 pm
Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, 1st round pick for Monta Ellis, and Anthony Randolph. G’state gets some much needed defense in the form of a defensive minded gaurd, who is still
young enough to be a factor in this league(Hinrich),a young defensive minded power forward(Tyrus), and a draft pick to go along with their own to continue to build around this team. The bulls get a talented young project power forward and some much needed scoring in Monta Ellis. This would make these teams much more balanced with there offense and defensive capabilities.

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.16 at 6:02 pm
    Bobcats better get this guy.

  • Rocky Posted: Dec.16 at 6:15 pm
Anthony Randolph+Devin George for Tyrus Thomas

  • BC33 Posted: Dec.16 at 6:17 pm
I say trade Chris Bosh for Kelenna Azuibke, Anthony Randolph, and Corey Maggette. I mean Corey Maggette is getting boed out of the Warriors areana every night might as well let him go.

  • rav Posted: Dec.16 at 6:17 pm
if this kid ever gets his head screwed on right he could be a real player

  • asylum77 Posted: Dec.16 at 7:08 pm
hmmm.. think the Lakers could pull off another steal like they did with Gasol?

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers Posted: Dec.16 at 7:35 pm
    MAKE IT HAPPEN KEVIN PRITCHARD!!!!!!!

  • Crackhead Jay Posted: Dec.16 at 9:19 pm
If they trade him I am done with the Warriors… The team isnt going anywhere this season, might as well let the young players play, especially Randolph and Morrow.

  • NBA kid Posted: Dec.16 at 9:20 pm
Anthony Randolph + Corey Maggette for Marcin Gortat + Brandon Bass

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.16 at 9:56 pm
Why would the Raptors want to be the Toronto Warriors? They don’t need three Warriors players, certainly not for Chris Bosh.

  • John Posted: Dec.16 at 10:30 pm
“Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, 1st round pick for Monta Ellis, and Anthony Randolph.” That’s a funny offer. I believe the original article about Randolph only said that the Warriors would not be against trading anyone on the team … everyone’s tradeable. But it doesn’t mean the team is having a fire sale. I can see a Randolph, George for Tyrus being more realistic than that post above with Ellis.

  • [...] the team’s lone untouchable player ONE MONTH AGO is now probably on his way out of town, and among the names the Warriors are looking forward to getting in return include Tyrus freaking Thomas?!?!?! Yep, that’s a fantastic plan. Get rid of a guy with multiple tools and a questionable [...]

  • rushmelo Posted: Dec.18 at 12:37 am
are the golden state warriors insane?
anthony randolph is just an explosion waiting to happen and they are talking about trading him!
Don Nelson needs to retire and coach some CBA team.
he is not fit for the NBA.
he is blessed with young super talents and if he cant control them its not the players fault.
moulding young stars into superstars is a talent not possessed by Nelson.
    FIRE NELSON
    get Avery Johnson!

  • adam Posted: Dec.21 at 3:52 pm
larry hughes and nate robinson and jared jeffries, for anthony and steph curry

  • adam Posted: Dec.21 at 3:56 pm
actually i would rather see, Randolph and Morrow for Hughes, nate, and johnathan bender….by the way i like your monta ellis scenario John

  • Incubo Posted: Dec.24 at 1:02 pm
Send him to Boston for Big Baby….lol

  • Roger Guan Posted: Dec.25 at 7:05 am
    How bout Randolph+Maggette for Boozer?
