Amar’e Trade Watch Intensifying

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

With the Trade Deadline now less than a month away, and Amar’e Stoudemire’s free agency this summer looming, the number of teams willing to play ball with management in Phoenix is reportedly growing.

Stoudemire’s days in Phoenix appear to be numbered (a situation that’s not exactlly new), and now it’s just a matter of trying to figure out which uniform he’ll be wearing next, and when.

The Arizona Republic takes a look at STAT’s possible future employers:

A league source said Golden State, Minnesota and Cleveland have shown interest in acquiring Suns power forward Amar’e Stoudemire.

Major hang-ups in a possible deal are the Suns’ need to get good value in return and the other team’s need to feel secure in knowing it has a chance to keep Stoudemire, who can opt out of his contract this summer.

Stoudemire has said he wants to play for a title contender but prefers to stay with the Suns, who met with his agent Thursday.

Stoudemire in Cleveland would be the most compelling case, but a pairing with Shaquille O’Neal has already failed spectacularly. And I don’t trust Mike Brown to figure out how to make the two co-exist on the court.

According to Yahoo!
, the number of teams blowing up Steve Kerr’s cell phone is even bigger: Chicago, Miami, Philly and New Jersey have all reportedly expressed interest in the star forward.

None of the reports seem to suggest that a deal is anywhere close to being done, and there’s a belief that Stoudemire would like to stay in Phoenix. But, where’s there’s smoke, there’s usually a bit of fire.

my bad on dre dala, i thought i read somewhere that that was phx’s pick. the fact remains that the owner routinely sells phx’s pick and they did let jj walk and got no value for shaq, just a salary dump. / on amare’s rebounding and defense. to be fair, he was never put in an environment that stressed working at that end of the court. if there is one thing mike brown can do it’s teach defense. mo williams was a liability in milwaukee and now he can at least not eff sh-t up and get exposed. defense is as much about culture than ability.

At nbk- iggy played at Arizona in college ……… j/k

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Cleveland has literally nobody to get for Stoudemire. Phx will not do the trade if it does not improve them in some way. and cleveland literally has nothing phx could want

  • kh

Trade him to the Raptors for Reggie Evans. Please

  • http://www.slamonline.com T-Money

nbk, the truth hurts but phx has been playing like doo-doo since their hot start and they DO trade for cash. read sheridan’s chat wrap. cap relief and prospects are very much on the table for STAT.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

T-Money so you believe an article in ESPN that you paid to view? You don’t think they just needed material to make you paying customers happy? Show me once ever that Phoenix has given away one of their top 3 players for cash? if not try top 5…….then when you realize they have never done that, re-examine your last comment. Phoenix is not gonna give up Amar’e for nothing. THe worst player the suns will get back for Amar’e will be Anthony Randolph, and that will be accompanied by a pick and/or more prospects. and thats the worst REALISTIC scenario

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh chat wrap my bad. either way, when have you ever seen anything chris sheridan has said go down?

  • http://www.slamonline.com T-Money

shaq was one of your top 5 players. he was traded for cap relief. jj was one of your top 5 players, they let him walk.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

nbk absolutely h@tes David West… I’m still not sure why.
Anyways, it would be hilarious if Steve Kerr traded Amare to get Shaq back. Obviously its not going to happen, but man, imagine how angry Nash would be. If the Suns get rid of Amare for some cap space or some worse players, Steve Nash bolts.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    NBK
Never is a strong word. What happened with Joe Johnson and Shaq was basically a salary dump and I wouldn’t be shocked to see it with Amare. But, for some reason I thought Amare was a free agent next season, which if true, would make it unlikely that the Suns would dump him ONLY for cash or cap space since he is coming off the books anyway if he walks. I would think they would be looking towards a young player with potential, a cheap draft pick and some sort of expiring vet deal so they don’t take on too much salary.
    Teddy
I used to defend David West, but doesn’t even try on defense or on the glass. He needs to step it up.

Amare would make ANY point guard look good. And he would fit on ANY team. Suns are probably getting a trillion offers for him. Amare for Bynum is definately the scariest.

  • Brian

Wouldn’t the Suns get cap relief just by hanging on to Stoudamire and letting him walk at the end of the year?

  • Anony Mous

Whoever said ship him and Barbosa to Sac for Martin, Thompson and cap filler is pretty much my hero. Barbosa and Evans would work in the backcourt because they could switch positions on offense and defense; basically compliment each others weaknesses. The only thing I would rather see in that deal is Hawes be the one traded instead of Thompson. Phx could make Hawes an all-star (like Frye, only better), and Sacramento would benefit from the inside-outside from Thomp and STAT. Phx would probably want Thomp more though just because they have Frye. The deal would make both teams better, git’er dunn.

Why does it seem like Cleveland is the new NY? And by that I mean every player who’s on the market they seem to be “interested” in. lol

  • theyhr88

Man, who DOESN’T Cleveland want? Amar’e is way overrated. Doesn’t rebound, which is mainly what a center should be doing, and he wouldn’t be able to score either if Stevie Nash wasn’t giving him 10 dimes a game. Personally I’d rather see Bosh in Miami next year than STAT.

  • rob

Amar’e is a bit overrated, but he’s not THAT bad. As a C he sucks, but as a PF he’s ok. He would be a good fit for NJ. Brook and Amar’e together would give the Nets a lot of punch.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Amare is not just okay at Power Forward, he’s great. Just because his defense sucks doesn’t make him a bad player. Charles Barkley absolutely sucked at defense… Just saying.
I think people are forgetting the STAT who nearly averaged 40 ppg in the playoffs that one year…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

In a series, sorry, not the entire playoffs.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Also, for a guy who gets nailed by the media/fans for poor rebounding, his career average is 8.9 boards per game. Hardly scrub numbers. And in the playoffs he elevates his game, averaging 25 ppg and 10 rpg his career in the postseason.
A lot of you guys’ complaints are ridiculous, actually.

  • http://www.digitalthread.com AlbertBarr

I AM FOR THE AMARE ON THE KINGS IDEA. sorry for yelling. But I would like to keep JT and get rid of Hawes. Unrealistic, most likely, but still…except that…I dont know if amare would stay past this year so, maybe not such a good idea.

  • BostonBaller

It does help having a future HOFer feeding you the ball but great PG’s have to have someone who can catch and finish also.. two sides to ever coin folks.

  • wilz

    no ball mutoni!
    a bit of fire…either theres fire or there’s not…no co!pping out

  • reaper

go to CHI, DRose and STAT, Trade Salmons, Pargo and the rook Johnson or Big Brad

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The problem with Amar’e is the 20 minute stretches where he absolutely disappears. He is nowhere to be found on offense or defense. Thats the difference between him and a genuine franchise player. If Dwyane Wade, LeBron, Kobe or any other franchise player is having a hard time scoring they will find another way to impact the game. Amar’e only impacts the game after he is in a scoring rhythm. And as a suns fan, post-shawn marion this is the most frustrating part of watching the team play. (defensive weakness is an afterthought, i don’t even react to it anymore)

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

yea nbk if thats your team then i tottaly respect your opinion. kobe, lebron, dwade, and melo are in a class by themselves. power forward/centers can disappear cuz they cant control the rock. i drafted amare 2 years in a row with a late first round pick in my fantasy league and his numbers are great…especially fg %. numbers can b misleading i guess but i think amare is a stud at the pf position.

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

i mean really whats the diff between 8.5 rpg and 10 rpg if you’re shooting .540% and not getting that ONE offensive rebound per game someone else might get cuz they blow a layup. i mean defensively he’s the best rebounder on the team. its kinda hard to expect him to do much more. he’s a force.

  • J

it’s not that i don’t want Amare. its just that he’s a free agent next summer… who knows if he will bolt or not. do we have the guarantee that he will sign to the cavs after his current contract? I’m still hoping for David West or Jamison at best.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Good point about the rebounding, Gametime.

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

@J: Amare is not gonna happen, David West is a pipe dream since the Hornets cleared enough salary already. Jamison or bust!

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com ClutchPerformer

@ buschfire, are you nuts bosh for amare? we dont want another VC to NJ screw over. this is not as bad but Bosh value is more than Amare, and as other said unlike amare Bosh doesnt need nash to sppon feed him his points, he can get his own, and your gonna trade your franchise for a non franchise? yeah how dumb is that

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

@gametimeweezy – i didn’t say he disappears on offense only. he disappears everywhere. (considering how little he does anyway on defense, its like hes half there to begin w/) he stops rebounding, helping protect the rim. he stops setting real picks. he just disappears. if your playing with steve nash and you get open you will get the ball. its not like he plays on a team that gets in a repetitive set, iso’ing the same player over and over again.

  • therighttoremainsalient

Players I would happily see in replacement of Amar`e Stoudemire:
    x Carlos Boozer
    x Al Harrington
    x David Lee
x LeMarcus Aldridge (+ Fernandez if Suns throw in Leandro)
    x Josh Smith

  • therighttoremainsalient

JUST PUT A TRADE THROUGH ON ESPN TRADE MACHINE AND IT WORKS!!!!!!

AL HARRINGTON AND RAMON SESSIONS FOR AMARE’ MAKE IT HAPPEN KERR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    ^^lmao

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

nbk…nope im totally on your side lol. Thru his last six games, his rebound totals are as follows: 5, 5, 5, 7, 9, 7…and tonite at the beginning of the 4th qtr…2 rebounds…nope not gonna cut it. But this also coincides with Robin Lopez steppin it up as a starter. Of course these are only fantasy stats. Im not gonna give up on him. But you probably watch more Suns games then me.

  • http://www.fantasticfansite.com Fontaine

Send D Lee and Jeffries to Phoenix for Amare. Then get Bron next yr in New Yitty w/ Joe Johnson. Its a wrap.
