Buyout for Darko?

Everyone knows Milicic and the Knicks are headed for a divorce, it’s just a matter of when: “The Knicks and Darko Milicic could be headed toward a buyout. Milicic, who has already stated that he plans to continue his career in Europe next season, was conspicuously missing from Thursday night’s game against the Bobcats. The 7-footer has become such an afterthought that the Knicks did not even bother to reveal that he did not show up for work. Milicic’s agent, Marc Cornstein, confirmed that his client was missing due to ‘personal reasons’ and said that Milicic would rejoin the team today. Knicks president Donnie Walsh would not rule out the possibility that Milicic may not finish the season in New York but quickly added, ‘He practices hard and kept himself in shape. It’s not like he’s pulling some kind of rebellion or something. His agent hasn’t asked me for trades. The only thing I heard Darko say is that he’s going to Europe next year.”‘

    The Seed wins this thread.

Too bad Darko wasn’t picked 20th overall instead of 2nd. If he’d been picked 20th, nobody would be calling him a bust, and maybe he would be developed with less expectations and attention. Or maybe he would have sucked exactly the same, but nobody would care.

    MikeC is right.

  • Dfrance

Hindsight is always 20/20. Had he developed into an All-Star we’d be calling Dumars a genius and he wouldn’t be dreaming of Europe. Sometimes you have to take a chance.

To be fair, when he played in Orlando he was a good shotblocker. No lie.

  • james

Donnie doarko sucks ya heard me dog?

  • Garett

Hindsight’s 20/20, yes, but at the end of the day he’s the biggest bust in the last 10 years, or more.
I always thought he’d come around and at least be a 10/7/2 guy, but he never developed. Maybe he should have stayed in Orlando next to DHO. DHO and DMIC.

He is mega-loaded and got to live the NBA life for six years, I don’t feel that bad for the guy.

  • ClydeSays

He’s a bigger bust than Kwame?

I thought Darko played decent backup C for the Magic. But yeah, he’s a bust for where he got picked for sure.

To make a positive out of this situation the Kings and the Thunder could use him. They both need a big guy and as niQ said and I agree he was a decent shotblocker in Orlando. Just maybe he will get better thare.

he would have been considered a nice player if he had been drafted late in the first round. he could never lived up to expectations no matter what, look at his class lebron, melo, wade, bosh, come on, these are 4 of the best players in the world. he didnt get a fair shake

  • Hussman25

Hes a bust only cause of where he got picked; If he got ample playing time bust would never have been labled to him… Just sad really; he did play will in Orlando. Kwame is the bigger bust!

    Olympiacos next year.

Darko was picked second overall because in ’03 was when Dirk was starting to get REAL NICE …Euro p*ssy ball was the way to go. Pardon my french. pun intended. but anyways yea Darko > Kwame easily. Kwames a bigger bust then Dolly Parton

  • http://none The Philosopher

What did they see in this guy?

  • http://www.luketynan.blogspot.com litetitan

you can’t really be labelled a bust if, the team that DRAFTED you never played you can it?? They had all the opportunity, staff and momentum to develop him, but no, they forced him to ride the bench for an entire career worth of development time and when he actually got on the floor his character was shredded. Probably the one european player that coming to the NBA was a mistake for…

  • ENDS

and lets not forget he has a ring while even king james doesnt

  • Realistic

I agree with Gametime… at least he’s better than Kwame.. and id rather have Darko then Oden.. at least Darko can actually stay healthy
