Dwight Doubts He’ll Be in Dunk Contest

And not just him. LeBron, too. Hey, maybe we can vote them in!: “I don’t think they’re going to announce my name (as a participant),’ he said. Asked if he was sure about that, Howard said, ‘Yeah.’ According to Howard, who has been talking with James, don’t hold your breath waiting for the participation of Cleveland’s superstar, who vowed last year to dunk for the first time but since has been wavering. ‘Me and him are talking,’ Howard said. ‘I don’t know if he wants to do it. We do a lot of dunking during the season so those dunk contests take a lot out of you … I would love to see him get in one. But I doubt he does. I don’t think he’s going to do it.”’

lebron is such a b*tch, man. he just doesnt want to risk loosing it. not that the nba would allow that to happen or anything…

  • Joe A

Regardless of who’s in the contest, I guarantee that Magic Johnson will claim that “the dunk contest is officially back” for the fifth year in a row.

  • LA Huey

Dwight’s put in his time. Come on, LeBron!

  • riggs

if he DOESNT do it add another notch to the lebron hate post, right after dancing during blowouts.

A dunk contest takes a lot of Dwight Howard, really? It’s not like he’s in the Globetrotters and he has to do that ish every single night.

  • warrior

    grow a pair lebron

  • tavoris

JoeA, Magic’s been sayin that since 2001…lol

    LMAO @ Joe A!

  • ball4life

I hope Lebron does it. but it would be cool if Shannon brown did the dunk contest too

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

Good, maybe they can have someone put on a show without a gimmick (cape) and instead just showcase some dunks.

LOL Joe A. and Yea, I don’t really care if Dwight’s in it or not, I just hope DeRozan gets a shot at it. I want to see DeMar DeRozan vs Shannon Brown!

  • j4zzm4n

derozan v shanwow brown v ariza v westbrook would be effing sweet but we’re probably gonna get a sub-standard contest. rather watch mr.720 and co doing their thing if derazor and shanwow aren’t involved.

All the dunkers named are great “Game” Dunkers… This has the makings of a non-enjoyable SD Contest this year??? I think the NBA should start having the players audition for it, send in tapes of dunks (Minimum 3 of their most creative) by a non-biased panel and then judge… Using the “dunks” category to come up with contestants spells trouble; has been and will continue to be.

Let shannon Dunk!!! That Kid can jump!!!!

PS: Some of the players trying to make a comeback can use this to prove their fitness….esp T-mac

  • Tommy Patron

Maybe if the NBA agrees to hold the Dunk Contest at his house, LeBron will participate. Oh, and the Cavs’ home announcers will be judges.

  • underdog

Well, I won’t miss D-12 and his layups, but I’m really curious what could LeBron do.

  • rob

That’s why Lebron will never be like MJ, or like Kobe or like any of those guys who are/were true competitors. They wanted to face the best at everything. James always wants to play safe, he doesn’t wanna look bad. LeBitch’s ego is his worst enemy.

“We do a lot of dunking during the season so those dunk contests take a lot out of you” GTFOH!!!

  • Fat Lever

Coincidentally, Fat Lever doubts he will watch the dunk contest.

This guy kills shannon, demar and all of them…L

  • Peter

This wouldn’t even matter if he hadn’t vowed to enter last year…now he has to man up

  • michael scorn

If dunking 4 effing times in February takes so much out of you, then stop doing it on breakaways so you can save energy for the NBA Finals.

    I second fat lever.

  • michael scorn

I think the fans should vote the 3pt chapion as well regardless of actual score.

Do you guys realize what a stupid and useless chance for a sprained ankle the dunk contest is. The players never took it seriously but you guys,(kids), sure do. Lebron’s not a man if he doesn’t dunk. Oh yeah – stand up to him and tell that to his stomach.

  • michael scorn

@Woody- If we are so worrid about injuries then NBA players should be banned from walking/standing unless they are on an NBA court. They should be pushed around in wheel chairs any other time to prevent injury.

i’m waiting for the day Lebron gets in the 3 point contest like Pierce. ugh

  • MikeC.

@michael scorn – If the whole wheelchair thing happens, sign me up too. For my entire life, I’ve been walking around using my legs like a sucker.

Lebron did, at the very least, hint that he was going to go in the dunk contest. I believe his reasoning was that since Dallas is hosting the event in a football stadium, there would be more people there to see it. Lebron has become a master of manipulating the public and sports writers. He knows he can pull the strings and make the puppets dance. He’ll probably go in the dunk contest after saying that he won’t.
@Woody – I’ve been enjoying the dunk contest for 20 years, since Kenny Smith did “the moose” and Kenny “Sky” Walker made 360′s look as easy as chewing gum. The dunk contest is fun to watch. I’m 31. It’s not just “the kids” that like it. It’s fun to see how the dunk has evolved. If you’re old enough, remember when reverse dunking, or windmills, were enough to win it? Now those are so commonplace that they’ll get you booed in a high school game. It’s all about the evolution of the athletes and the game, which dunking is a part of.

bring back epic dunk duels like MJ vs Nique
Lebron is a baby he guaranteed to Kenny he would and I called he would back out and he will , he just doesnt wanna lose

I hope Dwight isnt there.I wanna see some new blood in the dunk court.Sure Nate won last year so he should be in there, but he misses alot of dunk attempt’s.Glad he didnt miss too many last year.LeBron is scared of Shannon if he isnt participating.

  • underdog

Anton, you’re the oracle of the topic, I see. But I agree with your opinion on Dwight and his skills (or lack of them…).

  • ab_40

can anyone tell me what’s gonna happen with that thing sprite was organising last summer? where the guys who were top 4 in those votings were gonna be in a dunk contest as well probably on friday or something. I’d watch and enjoy that a lot more then eric gordon. and LBJ man I know he doesn’t wanna look bad but the NBA fans knowhe’s not an immortal being and that he can lose things. MJ didn’t win all of the dunk contests he was in neither did dr J or Nique. VC did but he was only in one Jrich should have won three in a row but the men at the top wouldn’t want him in the record books. but still the dunk contest needs the best players facing of to see who is the best dunker. and is there gonna be another horse game? I wanna see manu ginobili, kobe bryant and rasheed wallace in it. and last years winner has to get in but he’s just gonna shoot jumpers and that is Kevin Durant
