Gilbert Arenas’ Shoe Deal in Jeopardy?

Not sure what’s more disturbing to adidas execs — the guns or that Gil reportedly once took a dump in a teammate’s shoes: “If Arenas weren’t already dealing with enough, he now faces the watchful eye of his shoe company, Adidas, which released a statement on Friday that is putting the three-time all-star on notice. ‘We are evaluating our relationship with Gilbert Arenas based on his recent conduct and subsequent suspension from the NBA,” Adidas spokeswoman Lyn Famiglietti said in a statement. ‘We echo the Commissioner’s concern for such a serious incident and will continue to follow the investigation by the league and law enforcement.’ Arenas has been with Adidas since signing an endorsement deal with the shoe company in December 2003.”

What…John Bonham of Led Zeppelin took a dump in a bandmate’s shoe and everyone hails it as rock legend…Gilbert does it and it is disturbing? OK, it is disturbing, just thought I would point out it is not without precedent. Apparently Adidas execs have never seen J@ck@$$ either.

  • Hussman25

I CALLED THIS! I wish I could pull up the post I placed under a Gil Update here! It was inevitable! There is no way there could have been no backlash from Adidas from this incident. Its a shame, but I seen it comin…

  • DMC14

Ok now that i have read both articles. It is funny that he crapped in someones shoe (as long as it isn’t mine). I think thats its pretty good of addidas to not just drop him right away. see how it ends up. (i’ve owned 2 Rx7′s a sr1 and a sr5 either way there aint no room for any one to really sit in the back let alone sleep (sure there are seats but i think there for show more then anything) theres even less room in the back of a sr6).

  • DMC14

even sleeping in the front would suck.

  • Chazz Michael Michaels

    First Tiger, now Gil…

  • DMC14

Theres not really any comfortable space to stretch out in the front either.

I wonder if this is grounds for Adidas to go after his shoe deal and drop him??? Yall should have known this was coming…..

    (hehehehe)

  • Dick Trickle’s Chew

He took a crap in a teammate’s shoe? Was it a high top?

  • tavoris

didn’t know Arenas had a shoe deal. whatever…

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

tavoris: you must be kidding right?

  • K Sidhu

Gil’s shoes sucked any way! how much you think adidas really made off his shitty shoes any ways? and who cares!

  • http://slamonline.com NUPE

It seem difficult to continue to endorse somebody after they do so much damage to their reputation/image. I guess addidas is hoping gill will get another chance, this whole thing will blow over and he plays like a superstar again. Gil may be a nice guy and all, but too much of a lack of judgement to represnet most any product. Maybe he’ll be in the next jackass movie.

Those adi/SLAM shoes will be hot on ebay now!

If there’s one thing that Gilbert’s recent woes have confirmed in my mind, it’s the suspicion that his baffling reputation as the clown prince of the NBA simply isn’t deserved. Crapping in someone’s shoe? Oh, Gilbert, you are a cut-up! What’s that? You actually did cut up a teammate’s new suit? Where do you come up with these hilarious pranks?

On the evidence of Gilbert’s back catalogue of ‘jokes’, I’d say Dave Chappelle needn’t be unduly worried.

  • Jacqueline Mitchell

This entire situation is just truly sad.

  • davidR

dmc14, pretty random to talk about cars. anyway, remember when gilbert was gonna have like 20+ versions of his gil-zero released?

  • tavoris

    lol@Gerard…good payback

  • tavoris

but really, who notices Adidas advertisements? Al Harrington’s shoes are promoted more heavily than Gilbert Arenas’s

  • LA Huey

So maybe he figured this was typical rookie-hazing but Andray Blatche should have requested a trade after that. Big difference between a funny idea and a good idea.

  • http://slamonline.com Chris O’Leary

Andray Blatche should have tried to put Gil through the wall after that. I’m a skinny-ass guy and I guarantee I’d come out worse for doing it, but if someone craps in my shoe, it’s on. And it’s not even about them wrecking my kicks. If someone defecates in my direction, it’s fight time. It’s a rule I have.

  • Rich

Exactly, Chris. If Gil is going around squeezing out turds into his team-mates’ shoes, the strangest thing about his current situation is why it’s taken so long for one of them to point a gun at his grinning mug.

  • robb

Smith & Wesson are willing to offer Arenas a deal.

  • DMC14

Robb lol good one. @David in the news article he Gil reportedly said he lived in his RX7 for a while with his kid and some chick gave him $25(i was half asleep when i logged in last night (in australia) and thats what caught my attention cause i tried to sleep in my sr1 once and the only reason i got to sleep was because i was half pissed and smashed).

  • nastierthanu

Hussman 25 wow how do u do it. Is it a karnac thing? Do u have a crystal ball? How could u have predicted that a shoe company would consider dropping an athlete who brings guns to the arena. I was hoping u had some info about 2012. Nostradumba$$

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

@tavoris: maybe D12, KG, Billups, J-Smoove, D-Rose and all that brothehood sh1t didnt impress you, I LIKED IT A LOT- impossible is nothing

  • JoeMaMa

defacating in someone’s shoe – wrong. but POO in a shoe? that’s funny. It’s all in the wording.
Adidas needs to make an anti-gilbert shoe: poo detection, silent alarm that alerts sanitation crew, etc.

  • Hussman25

@nastierthanu: Yeah… I actually do have a Crystal Ball. It also told me how much of a jerk you are, but u may already be aware of that…. What I was trying to say by doing that was that no one though that this incident would lead to this… As bad as this situation is. Nike stuck with Tiger; I guess Adidas believes that u have to be a model person to sell their product. Sometimes I wish other companies would take the same self evaluation process as seriously as they are with Gil… SMH.

  • silverselectjd

Cmon hussman25… really, you’re really claiming that you were the only person to call that? Buddy it’s cooler when you don’t do the “that was my idea” boast…

  • tavoris

@Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers – Gilbert was in THAT commercial? I honestly never noticed him there…fml

  • http://slamonline.com NUPE

Gil’s history or poor judgement may actually work to his advantage. He can reasonably show that this was just another case of him doing something stupid and taking a joke to far, versus having any kind of mal-intent or threat. I’m not a lawyer but I believe along with the actual criminal act they need to be able to prove criminal intent to prove the most serious charges. So his repeated stupidity may actually work in his favor as a mitigating circumstance. Crit on the other hand was locked and loaded ready to blast – so his legal isssues may be worse the gil’s.
