Phil Jackson Unhappy With All-Star Voting

Sigh. Get in line, Phil: “Pau Gasol is fourth among Western Conference forwards in All-Star voting, trailing Carmelo Anthony,  Dirk Nowitzki and  Tim Duncan, but Jackson doesn’t care. In fact, he seems to be losing faith in the voting system. ‘I think Houston might have all their players in the top five at every position,’ Jackson said. ‘That Chinese fan group, they vote for the Houston team because of Yao Ming and their relationship to Houston. It’s all skewed.’ Jackson’s only partly correct. Tracy McGrady is second among West guards, but Aaron Brooks is sixth among guards, Trevor Ariza is sixth among West forwards and Luis Scola is seventh among forwards. Jackson had one more complaint. ‘Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady … they haven’t even played this year,’ he said. ‘Allen’s played a few games so it’s kind of askew to suggest that the voting is something to count on.”‘

or maybe let the fans only vote 2 players in one for each conference.

  • Johnson

fans should get to choose the starters out of a group of players selected by the entire league of players and coaches that cannot vote for a player of their own team. It would give fans a chance to see who players in the league regard as their most worthy stars and allow great players who don’t get the notoriety of others the recognition they deserve. I think real fans of basketball would like to see who the players think are the best in the league.

Hes right about houston and all but come on? Dirk, Duncan and Melo are right up there with Gasol so no complaint there

Phil Jackson can SUCK ONE. I never heard him complain when everyone from Lakers get selected.

if players got to pick…I don’t think Kobe would make it

  • Ronald

erm…you know this is obviously jackson talking out of turn. i remember the first year yao got voted in everyone cried foul. but then it came out that yao got more paper ballots votes and less internet votes throwing out the theory that the 6+ billion people voted for yao.

if it werent for the fans theres no nba at all so give em wat they want. give them the players they know and loves to see play period.

Nobody cares about the Pro Bowl because it’s played after the season. Gerard is right though, there should be limits set as to the minimum amount of games a person has played. At least you won’t see as many dumb vote-ins like this year. As for whomever said they voted TMac and AI out of respect, you don’t do that until it’s their last season. How about giving respect for what a player has done this year and not years past when they actually deserved to be there

my only question is if t-mac is being voted in because of all chinese fans, then why is yao ming or yi jianlang from the nets being voted in?

  • al

one man stands alone, teetering on the edge of sanity. he looks for closure. he seeks reason. his purpose is one of redemption and justification. blood, sweat and tears are pured into this very activity. he reaches for what is within his grasp. he finds it. paper. manic his his desire now and so little is his time left. the moment passes. it is fleeting. his scrawl almost illegible. upon closer inspection the truth is revealed he write. a vote is cast: Juwan Howard…

The All Star is done. Why not a US against rest of the world (all NBA players). That would be fun

  • BostonBaller

What was wrong with what Jackson said? Skewed fit perfectly. The word means distorted. (Hence: bias, contort, falsify, misrepresent, etc etc) Therefore both words work in the context of ASG voting. Yes, ASG appearances do factor in who’s the best arguments which could sway HOF voting at some point. If fans keep voting in players who aren’t even playing or has lost a few steps just b/c they like them or can then it does get a bit shady. Either way I just want to see the game.

  • Orlando Woolridge

Honestly, I don’t understand why people get so worked up about the ASG. It means pretty much nothing anyway. Everybody knows who really deserves it, so shouldn’t that be enough?

  • Yassi

    SHUT UP! PhilJ!!!

of course something like that NEVER happened with the Lakers in favor.

    Just shut up already……

  • Yassi

and NO its not skewed or distorted.
If People use their opportunity that they were given by the system and vote within that system HOW ON EARTH can that be skewed? Jeeezzzzz….

  • al

    Juwon Howard!!!!
    Vote!

  • frank

ultimately, it is about who the fans want to see. bottom line…. interesting idea: how about letting only the players and coaches be the ones who decide who plays in the all-star game??
