Rod Thorn: We’re Not Trading Devin Harris

Stop fretting, Devin. You’re not going anywhere: “Been through it, done it, lived it. I remember how I got here,’ the Nets point guard said. ‘Have I heard it? Yes. Does it bother me? No. Will I talk to anyone (in management) about it?’ A pause. A laugh. Sounds like derision. ‘Nah.’ Too bad. Because all he had to do was walk across the gym Thursday and ask the only guy who is capable of putting the uninformed rumors to rest. ‘It’s very, very unlikely that we’d trade Devin. I never say never, but it’s very unlikely that he’s going to be traded,’ Nets president Rod Thorn said as he watched the start of practice at a health club in the city’s financial district. ‘I read the same things you do. There was one thing I saw the other day that was just wrong — about we were talking to Washington about trading Devin for Caron Butler? We never had one conversation with Washington about Caron Butler in five years — period. But you expect speculation, especially when you have a team that has a record like we do.’ That’s about as definitive as Thorn can get, because someone can make him an offer he can’t refuse at any time before the Feb. 18 deadline.”

“…unless we win John Wall in the lottery”, the GM did not say out loud.

yeah Ken, only he was talking about THIS season.

I would rather trade Devin harris then pass up on John Wall.

Hangtime, who says they will pass up on John Wall? (IF they get the no. 1 pick)

  • Nakware Howard

who says john wall is better than devin harris, I love john wall just as much as everyone else, but even if I get john wall i’m not getting rid of devin harris dude is NASTY. PERIOD.

Well dont they both play the same position? But when I come to think about it, I always wondered who effective Harris would be at the 2 guard. A back-court of Harris and Wall would be really something….The nets are loaded with talent. Now they need the experience and leadership to make that team work. CDR, Twill and Lopez are great building blocks.

my point is, and I guess the article isn’t clear enough: Thorn is talking about not trading Hariis right now, so this doesn’t have anything to about John Wall or whatever.

cap space and an unprotected pick from a bad team (e.g. boozer + the knicks pick for 2010) could seal it tbh

A half-court of Harris and Wall would be a disaster.

The Nets are loaded with talent….and L’s

    So was last year`s thunder!

It always astounds me when people expect bad teams to trade their best players for cap space… If the team already sucks with an All-Star, what makes you think anyone good wants to sign with the team when that All-Star is gone? Trying to get cap space and throwing away your developing pieces is the worst thing a team like the Nets can do. If management was smart, they could spot talent, and sign and draft good players without having to go for big names that aren’t going to come.

Well Devin Harris is injured now, (and has always been injury-prone)… so, looks like a good time to trade him… if any team is willing to pick up on him..

  • Shem

I thought John Wall was a sg? why not have harris, wall, cdr start?

  • matt

if they get wall, it’ll be harris and spare parts for ak47. the russian wants him. deron and devon in the jazz backcourt might be pretty lethal.

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

@niq: they won’t trade him, because they don’t have any other point guard to replace him. Quinn and Dooling won’t play 30-35 mpg.
@matt: that doesn’t make any sense at all. Williams Harris in the same backcourt…. this is not a videogame.

Rod Thorn has to say that. Its a business. Thats probably why Devin Harris said “nah”…he’s not even gonna bother asking. They’d probably lie to his face. If they get a good offer, he’s gone. If they get a decent offer, he’s gone. If they get a crappy offer, he’s still probably gone.

  • therighttoremainsalient

Rod Thorn: We’re Not Trading Devin Harris…until LeBron is on the table….Rod Thorn: We’re Not Trading Devin Harris…unless the Big Russian demands it…Rod Thorn: We’re Not Trading Devin Harris…if it includes Brook Lopez or CDR.
