Stephen Jackson Welcomes Your Boos
The artist formerly known as Cap’n Jack will not be walking gingerly into the lions’ den (also known as Oracle Arena) tomorrow night: “Charlotte Bobcat Stephen Jackson forced his way out of the Golden State Warriors, so he’s not deluding himself about how he’ll be treated in his return to Oakland Friday. ‘I know I’m going to get booed,’ Jackson told the Observer Tuesday night. ‘I was booed while I was playing there, so I know I’m going to get booed. But I won’t pay any attention; I get booed in 15 (NBA) arenas. This won’t be any different to me.’ Jackson pushed for a trade because he felt the Warriors weren’t committed to winning. Wouldn’t the fans understand that with all that’s gone on since the Warriors upset the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs a few seasons ago? ‘Just some people are bitter. But that’s part of the game,’ Jackson said. ‘It’s not really going to be a factor of what the outcome of the game will be. This is about us being focused.”‘

And before people complain that their jobs don’t pay them millions of dollars and don’t feature guaranteed contracts, remember you aren’t in the top 1 percent of your profession either. If you were as good at your job as NBA players are at their jobs, then you could argue about their perks.
He went about his trade in the worst way. Period.
When he wasn’t traded right away and was “playing” (term used lightly) for a terrible team it was so clearly evident he’d given up.
That’s the problem I have.
Do I blame him for the extension? Hell no. I blame Bobby Rowell for being stupid as all hell to cave.
Jackson isn’t to be blamed for the contract, that was all Bobby Rowell’s ineptitude.
Jax COULD have attempted to not completely mail it in even though the team was terrible. Him playing well on a decent team just proves my point that he’d given up for the W’s when he wasn’t traded right away.
He’s at work, Lord knows I don’t give 100 percent everyday at work, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t do it even if I was making millions. Sometimes your personal feelings get in the way of you doing the right thing.
But, what tempers my sympathy for Jackson is that he knew what he was getting himself into when he signed that big deal. He knew what that team was and he still went for the money. So, I don’t blame him for going for the money, but he needs to stop pretending like the Warriors descent into hell was shocking.
