Stephen Jackson Welcomes Your Boos

The artist formerly known as Cap’n Jack will not be walking gingerly into the lions’ den (also known as Oracle Arena) tomorrow night: “Charlotte Bobcat Stephen Jackson forced his way out of the Golden State Warriors, so he’s not deluding himself about how he’ll be treated in his return to Oakland Friday. ‘I know I’m going to get booed,’ Jackson told the Observer Tuesday night. ‘I was booed while I was playing there, so I know I’m going to get booed. But I won’t pay any attention; I get booed in 15 (NBA) arenas. This won’t be any different to me.’ Jackson pushed for a trade because he felt the Warriors weren’t committed to winning. Wouldn’t the fans understand that with all that’s gone on since the Warriors upset the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs a few seasons ago? ‘Just some people are bitter. But that’s part of the game,’ Jackson said. ‘It’s not really going to be a factor of what the outcome of the game will be. This is about us being focused.”‘

Jumping ship when your team is down means the fans have every right to boo him …

  • riggs Posted: Jan.28 at 11:13 am
to be fair the team werent helping the team climb anyways

Meh, a team is a job. You can switch job whenever you feel like it.
And before people complain that their jobs don’t pay them millions of dollars and don’t feature guaranteed contracts, remember you aren’t in the top 1 percent of your profession either. If you were as good at your job as NBA players are at their jobs, then you could argue about their perks.

@Allenp, aint that the truth! Also, I wish the league had more players that love to be hated and whom fans love to hate.

Nice to see Jackson playing well and helping the Bobcats win.

If I was under a big money contract with a company for a few years and openly disrespected management, sulked, made life worse for my co-workers, and talked about how I couldn’t wait to get the hell out and go to a competitor, I think I’d understand why I’d be given the cold office when I returned to the office.
He went about his trade in the worst way. Period.

allenp with the realness. i never thought of prop athletes like that. we tend to forget that they are the best in the world at what they do. the top business executives in the corporate world can also pretty much write their own employment contract, golden parachute provisions and jump ship to competitors all the time.

Don’t get me wrong; the front office is a joke. The team needs to be sold immediately. But it’s a young team and they look to veterans to give them guidance, and he did everything but. Didn’t he refuse to become captain, or asked not to be one anymore? I don’t think Cap’n Jack is an apt nickname anymore.

Jackson = Moss with the Raiders.
When he wasn’t traded right away and was “playing” (term used lightly) for a terrible team it was so clearly evident he’d given up.
    That’s the problem I have.
Do I blame him for the extension? Hell no. I blame Bobby Rowell for being stupid as all hell to cave.

  • JB Posted: Jan.28 at 1:49 pm
Jackson for the Warriors = Moss for the Raiders.
Jackson isn’t to be blamed for the contract, that was all Bobby Rowell’s ineptitude.
Jax COULD have attempted to not completely mail it in even though the team was terrible. Him playing well on a decent team just proves my point that he’d given up for the W’s when he wasn’t traded right away.

he makes love to booing. now seriously, this cat is a bit crazy but a helluva player

  • Th3_R3al_Chris Posted: Jan.28 at 2:27 pm
What are the other 14 arenas that boo him?

  • rob Posted: Jan.28 at 2:32 pm
I like this guy. Tough player.

  • underdog Posted: Jan.28 at 2:36 pm
I hope he drops 40 on them.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.28 at 2:55 pm
Jax is becoming one of my favorite players in the league now. Tough as nails, clutch, and skilled in every facet of the game.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.28 at 2:57 pm
I love this man. Get ‘em Capt. Jack!

  • LA Huey Posted: Jan.28 at 3:11 pm
Some of you are acting like Jack’s behavior is all his fault. Jack was frustrated with Nelson’s coaching and management’s roster make-up. He was a 2-guard regularly asked to play the 4 and the team wasn’t winning. If I were to put myself in a similar situation at work, I’d ask for another gig too.

  • Michael NZ Posted: Jan.28 at 3:38 pm
Cap’n Jack pays so little attention to the booing that he knows he gets booed in exactly 15 arenas.

  • Allenp Posted: Jan.28 at 3:38 pm
Jackson failing to give his all on the court is regretable, but I ain’t upset.
He’s at work, Lord knows I don’t give 100 percent everyday at work, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t do it even if I was making millions. Sometimes your personal feelings get in the way of you doing the right thing.
But, what tempers my sympathy for Jackson is that he knew what he was getting himself into when he signed that big deal. He knew what that team was and he still went for the money. So, I don’t blame him for going for the money, but he needs to stop pretending like the Warriors descent into hell was shocking.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.28 at 5:52 pm
I’d rather hang out with Stephen Jackson than a Detroit Pistons fan, let’s put it that way.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.28 at 5:53 pm
Okay some Pistons fans are okay. Just not the ones who sit in the first 5 rows from the court.

  • dankNuggs Posted: Jan.28 at 7:17 pm
The fans should be booing Don Nelson, like six different players have come out against him, its time for the fans to put two and two together and demand he’s fired!

  • iLL wiLL Posted: Jan.28 at 8:22 pm
    Go get em Stack Jack!

  • titsd Posted: Jan.29 at 2:34 am

  • Hisham Posted: Jan.29 at 4:49 am
The Warrior fans should hold on to the memory 2007 like it was a championship season and petition the pope to declare every player from that roster holy. Those people don’t know gratitude

  • Hisham Posted: Jan.29 at 4:50 am
    memory *OF* 2007
