Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler to Boston?

A potential blockbuster is reportedly being discussed between Washington and Boston: “In a dramatic move that would resuscitate their fading championship hopes, the Boston Celtics are discussing a deal with the Washington Wizards for forwards Antawn Jamison  and Caron Butler,  league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Friday. The proposed deal would send the expiring contracts of Ray Allen, Brian Scalabrine and J.R. Giddens to the Wizards, a move that would signal the start of Washington’s rebuilding process. The trade isn’t imminent, but talks have progressed and Celtics GM Danny Ainge has positioned his organization to make one of the boldest trade deadline moves in years.”

i just don’t see jamison fitting in well at all. I love him, but he’s primarily a scorer, and scoring is not what we need. if ainge thinks the c’s suck right now, he’s just not paying attention to why we’re losing games, which is because we can’t close them, which is because pierce hasn’t been himself in the second half. i just don’t see a need for a trade. everyone’s forgetting that we won 11 in a row at one point WITHOUT DANIELS (and for a short period of time, had the best record in the league) and we can do it again once we’re fully rested and everyone’s completely healthy. a trade is not the answer. letting players sit until they’re rested is. please, ainge, just think this through a little.

As the big wizards fan i am….why would we want scalabrine?????

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

F no, they cant put the fake bad boys in contention again with this stupid a$$ trade, this is a Gasolish trade righ here. Ray Ray´s awsome but Jamison and Butler are far superior at this point.

    this would be crazy

@Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers: I know it’s easy to put jamison and butler ahead of ray statistically, but to say that they’d be more valuable to the celtics than ray based on stats alone is short-sighted. are you thinking about the effect having a shooter like ray on the floor has on your offense? are you thinking about what his experience and clutch shooting ability will be worth come playoff time? are you thinking about his leadership abilities and how well he’s proven to mesh with the team, even if they’ve been struggling lately?

the big three needs to stay if boston’s going to win a championship. ainge needs to realize that the c’s have been struggling because of injuries (KG, Marquis) and not having their best offensive player, Pierce, in prime playing condition. It’s got nothing to do with Ray.

all the cavs fans just clinched their buttcheeks when they heard this.

I love Ray, but given the current state of the Celts and Ray’s contract, I would be tempted to make this trade. You get back two All-Stars for Ray and a couple of pieces? That’s a pretty sweet deal. In a perfect world Ray would stay and wind down his career in Boston, but this sure isn’t a perfect world. In addition to bringing those players in (both of whom would be very hungry to win, especially Jamison)it would keep them from going to their competitors. This deal is also a perfect example of how trades in pro sports can be more about contracts than players.

Now Butler to the Mavs, THAT would be awesome. Teams lacking some, dare i say it, tough juice in the backcourt. Cubes, make.it.so.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

lol @ riggs…@letsmotor: I dont say it because of the stats otherwise Varejao would have no value and the guys a great defender/garbage man/Of.Rebounder, thet helps Bron win 60plus games…I watch the C´s and Ray is Cluch but at this point dont even compare his value to Butler´s..trow in Jamison and you have the 3´s Ray makes plus inside game. ALSO FU(K da Wizards for eating sh!t from M

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

ark Cuban!!!!!! They asked my team Fenandez and Batum for Haywood and now give him up for a BUCKET OF HOT SH!T!!!!!AARAARRRRGGHHH

@Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers: not sure I’d go so far as to either one by himself is more valuable than ray, but I can see how the two of them for ray seems to heavily favor the c’s. at the same time, you have no idea how this would affect team chemistry. does either jamison or kg want to come off the bench? what kind of minutes and touches do they each expect? would they fit in well with the c’s style at all?

the other thing that bothers me about this prospect: it’d be a crying shame to see a future hall of famer like ray close out is career (and break reggie’s 3pm record) with the wizards.

oh, and for what it’s worth: i heard on sportscenter that several sources confirmed that it’s not happening for financial reasons on the wizards’ part.

so were on the same page, it could screw chemistry but c´s seem like theyre losing it anyway, and obviously would be Tawn of the pine.

    Fail …
This will be good for washington.

  • jeremy

this would hurt Boston, the only team in their way is Cleveland, and how many first round exits did the Cavs show to Caron and Antawn?

  • riprocket

Man, I’m sad to see Sugar Ray being thrown around like that. He can still drop 50 on occasion (remember last year’s playoffs?) and he’s a reliable 20-pt scorer and lockdown defender. I understand he’s 34, but the man is a legend. :( I dunno about this trade. I don’t know why the Celtics need another aging, 3-point shooting big man in Jamison (he’s 33!). Butler may be a nice backup to Pierce, or a starting 2 guard, but he’s 29 anyway. Boston needs to trade for YOUNGER players to help the rebuilding process around Perkins and Rondo.

  • mytiman

If Boston got Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, the Cavs should instantly get Amar’e. Or else, LeBron will move in New York along with Dwyane Wade and Jay-Z.

  • Joe-Joe

Ray’s days are numbered in Boston!

  • J-Ro

Sometimes a team can be TOO good for their own good. They might be too deep that it will affect them.

  • Shem

Caron Butler and Antawn would have been a much better deal for Boston, and Washington fucked up. They coulda had Ray insted of Howard.. even though they’re rebuilding
