Bulls Unloading John Salmons to Milwaukee

The trade dominoes continue to fall, as teams set themselves up for this upcoming summer’s free agent madness: “In a move with major ramifications for their ability to sign someone from the most heralded free agent class in NBA history, the Bulls have agreed in principle to trade John Salmons and his potential gum-on-the-shoe player option to the Bucks for expiring contracts. The Bucks will send either Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander or Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson. Like Salmons, the Bucks held Warrick out of Wednesday’s game. Not even Salmons knew his destination when reached earlier Wednesday, when the Tribune first reported the Bulls had asked him not to ride the team bus to Madison Square Garden. ‘It’s crazy,’ Salmons said. ‘They told me to stay at the team hotel and I’ll know in the morning where I’m going.’ Shedding the $5.8 million player option that Salmons may or may not exercise for next season guarantees the Bulls will have enough salary-cap space to offer a maximum contract this summer. The Bulls could be roughly $20 million below the salary cap, depending on new NBA revenue figure.”

Let’s see, we have a number of teams angling for FA’s this summer: Miami, Chicago, LA Clips, Knicks, Nets, Memphis are teams I can think of off the top of my head. Plus, you have Cleveland, Toronto, Phoenix, Miami, and Atlanta trying to keep the major FA’s from leaving. Bottom line: there are going to be a bunch of teams disappointed.

TADOne…that’s exactly what Eric Snow said on NBA TV last nite

  • Jeff Henderson

Regardless if the Bulls might be disappointed this was the best case scenario for them. They now have the money to pitch to top free agents, and did it while still keeping their core intact.

As a Bucks fan WHY IN THE WORLD would they give up Warrick and Alexander when they could give up Thomas and Elson?

The DRose and DWade show is cleared for take-off. Everyone wishing to join the bandwagon please present your boarding passes at the gate.

Allen: I’m jumping on, they’re gonna be on my league pass, that’s for sure.

^Yeah, Wade in Chicago would be nice.

Salmons was great in the last year’s playoff, so it’s sucks to see him play for a non-contender team – again. On the other hand, Kurt Thomas is gonna fit in good. But Tyrus Thomas and Hakim Warrick on the same team? C’mon…

TADOne : Bottom line: there are going to be a bunch of teams disappointed.
You said it correct, nobody is actually focusing on the fact that the biggest free agents for this summer have teams that are willing to do what needs to be done to keep them.

As a Bulls fan I would love to see a Dwade,LBJ even Bosh but their teams are not just going to hand them over!! Remember when Kobe was coming to Chi-Town it didnt happen! Same thing with Boozer (and the Jazz were willing).

My Bet is that the Majority stay where they are

  • seboz

Agreed Ses and the result will be a bunch of second-tier players getting long term, big money contracts ending up as trade bait a few years later. GMs never learn…

  • seboz

Even scarier with the possible return of Isiah Thomas as one

  • Orlando Woolridge

A lot of teams WILL be disappointed, but if they aren’t going anywhere anyway, don’t they owe it to the fans to at least put themselves in the position to improve even if it doesn’t work out in the end? And yes, I remember the Bulls trying to tell me that Brent Barry, Ron Mercer, and Eddie Robinson were stars. Dark times.

  • LetsGetIt

Good good good trade. Crazy they were thinking about trading Hinrich

  • LA Huey

So no Amare in Miami. Can’t see a reason why Wade won’t bolt to Chi. He gets a homecoming and paired up with another Chi City kid. This is going to be NICE!

  • Tommy Patron

Yes! I’m hoping for Joe Johnson, though. Much better fit than putting Wade with DRose.

  • Orlando Woolridge

Oh yeah, Joe would be NICE!

  • slamfan4life

I’m gonna miss Johnny boy but Joe and Hakim are really good; Hakim=Tyrus (really), and Joe is a rc that never had a chance to prove himself
