Caron Butler Takes Jason Terry’s Starting Spot

Tough luck, Jason. The new guy is better: “Terry said before Sunday night’s All-Star Game that Butler will be the Mavericks’ starting shooting guard after arriving in a seven-player blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards. erry, the league’s Sixth Man of the Year last season, moved into the starting lineup last month after struggling and has since regained his shooting touch. Terry said he talked with coach Rick Carlisle over the weekend and agreed that that the Mavericks are better off with him coming off the bench. ‘I’ve been there,’ Terry said after playing wounded soldier Sgt. William Moleon in a game of EA Sports NBA Live that was broadcast on the massive video screens at Cowboys Stadium. ‘Why would you make a guy like that come in and make a huge adjustment? He’s already making an adjustment to a new city. We want to make him as comfortable as we can to make the process as smooth as we can.”‘

terrys better of the bench. hes more of a 1.5 than a pure shooting guard he needs the ball too much to work with that starting line up

I bet Brenda starts over Damp too

JT was never a player that I paid particular attention to but I admire his graceful acceptance of his new role. Class act very professional.

My sentiments exactly, trout. Real classy move. Can you imagine Rip or AI doing that, when they were both on the Pistons roster?

Im glad he offered to come off the bench not many players in the NBA would do that to help make their team better. Class act by Jason Terry and yeah I think Haywood will start ahead of Dampier too lol

This team is a problem…Dirk is the truth too now.

here’d hoping they dont attain chemistry til at least next year. but after that…they could be like whoa

  • slimlim6000 Posted: Feb.15 at 1:28 pm
The mavs always stack up…each season they always got two guys per position…yet they always choke, too many guys leads to too many people needing the ball…this is dirk’s team…caron and brenda were good adds tho…they are defensive minded…brenda is good for intangibles and caron can defend the other teams best wingman…and they can alternate caron, marion, kidd and JT between the one two and three spots…deadly backcourt…frontcourt has never been an issue for the mavs…

I’m not sure this puts them over the edge, but honestly, this helped a lot. I want to watch these guys now.

Terry is a class act and a great player.

  • tavoris Posted: Feb.15 at 3:13 pm
Dallas is scary, and just added two of the better defenders @ their positions in the league. This will be interesting

  • RV Posted: Feb.15 at 3:14 pm
sounds like Terry gave the spot away…

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Feb.15 at 3:25 pm
The Lakers need Hinrich; the Celtics need Jamison; the Spurs need a prayer; Shaq needs your fiancee.

  • Ansonpanson Posted: Feb.15 at 3:35 pm
scary starting 5: jkidd, juice, matrix, dirk, haywood

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.15 at 6:46 pm
they now have title chances until dirk retires. this is everything he could have asked for. haywood will bitchslap bynum and gasol. haywood vs perkins would be some ppv type siht. kobe knows what caron brings, hes sweating.

I love this, now they marion and butler starting with terry off the bench. Dallas is now the 2nd best in the west if all pans out

  • The D Train Posted: Feb.15 at 8:02 pm
What about a crunch time or small lineup of Dirk, Marion, Butler, Kidd and Terry? They still cant match up with Bynum, Gasol and Odom, but who can? And frankly, even if they could, no one will ever believe in Dallas, or Dirk, because of the 2006 Finals. There will always be the “well, lets see how they do in the playoffs under pressure” question.

  • Shem Posted: Feb.15 at 8:24 pm
The D train is right, ive actually been checking peoples comments because this is interesting. When i think of the mismatches LA brings, thats why i see Dallas getting swept in the conference finals. Also, not only will people think twice about believing in Dallas after they lost 4 straight in the 06 finals but obviouslky the warriors.. When Dallas looks to have things going their way you’re just never sure

  • jabronie06 Posted: Feb.16 at 5:49 pm
people always underestimate the mavericks when in fact they could be champions. i just hope that with this trade they could actually win the playoffs. lol i’ve been a mavs fan since 1995. GO MAVS!
