Cavs Land Antawn Jamison

Goodbye, Big Z; hello, Antawn! A five-player trade between Washington, Cleveland and the LA Clippers has been finalized.

When everyone had assumed that Amar’e Stoudemire was headed to Ohio, Danny Ferry nabbed Antawn Jamison instead from the rapidly decomposing Washington Wizards. And in the process, perhaps turned Cleveland into the favorite to win the title this season.

The trade has been confirmed on Twitter (where else?) by many, many, many, many, many media members: Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Al Thorton, plus a first round draft pick to Washington; Sebastian Telfair and Antawn to Cleveland; Drew Gooden to the Clippers (who will reportedly waive him.)

The total destruction of the team that used to be known as the Washington Wizards is nearly complete. The Pollins have traded away almost all of the core pieces of the team that went to the Playoffs four times in the last six years. Only Gilbert Arenas remains in DC, and no one expects him to be there much longer.

Cleveland not only landed Jamison — one of the best forwards in the L (averaging 20.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg) — but also keeps the ever improving JJ Hickson. Hats off to you, Danny Ferry.

OK, LeBron. You now have all the horses you need to win a championship. No more excuses.

    I feel bad for big Z. He stuck with the Cavs in all those years when they sucked, and now when they are so close to winning it all, gets traded… Somehow this is Shaqs fault. If Cleveland wins the ‘chip, Shaq should give his ring to Ilgauskas.

    I also feel bad for Mike Miller. He came to a promising team, hoping to be another piece to the puzzle, only to remain as one of the lone capable players on a horrible collection of ballers.

    I hate to jump on the bandwagon, I hate cleveland to be honest but they WILL win a title. Not only do they get a stronger bench (by far) with varejao now coming off but they have 3 guys that COMMAND double teams (shaq, lebron and jamison). All of those guys will now have more room to work (espectially when mo williams comes back). I don’t know how to stop this team. Teams can’t stack the paint for Lebron anymore. He has post scorers and outside shooters now. Other then that, I’ll miss the Cleveland-Washington playoff series and this was all Gilbert Arenas fault. Other then that, the bulls got Pippen before MJ won a title and now the cavs got Antawn before LeBron wins a title.

    Y’all realize that Z is going to re-sign with Cleveland after the mandatory 30 days, right? LBJ’s been hella loyal to Z since he’s arrived. Z was the first person he sought out after they beat Detroit in the ECF and prolly suggested that Nike put him in that puppet commercial. No way Z doesn’t come back.

    Also, I hope we have a healthy season the rest of the way. This is shaping up to be an exciting playoffs. ORL/BOS/CLE and LA/DEN/DAL fighting it out in their respective conferences with POR/OKC/SAS/ATL/TOR/MIA(if they can get STAT) trying to embarass somebody. Go Cavs!

    I really wanted Amare but Jamison is the safer choice. Almost guarentees no chemistry problems. He was the only player who kept a cool head thru the Wizard’s American Gangster tryouts. Kinda makes you think tho, whether they win or lose will a 34 yr old injury prone Jamison keep Lebron in Ohio. Amare would’ve kept the King around for sure
