Celtics Not Exactly Thrilled About Nate

This isn’t what one would call a very warm welcome. No one in the Celtics’ locker room was screaming “word aaaaappp!” for their new teammate last night: “Celtics coach Doc Rivers didn’t feel the team needed a shake-up after posting a 10-10 record in the last 20 games. ‘I would’ve been fine if we hadn’t … we’ll see whether that’s the right decision or not,’ said Rivers. ‘I like this team, I’ve said it over and over again. I didn’t think we needed to make changes.’ Asked Rajon Rondo about his thoughts on the trade, he first declined, seemingly frustrated. ‘I don’t know, I don’t know,’ said Rondo on whether the team needed to make a trade. “I hope it’s for the best. Eddie House can drop 20, 30 [points off the bench] too. But [the players] don’t make decision, we just play the game.’ As for his relationship with Robinson: ‘We compete. We don’t really see each other, we speak, but I try to kill him every time I play him and I’m sure that’s probably his mentality.’ He did say that Robinson brings ‘energy and he can definitely score the ball in a million different ways. He’s a good defender.”‘

WHY DANNY WHY??? 1st Stephon, Now Nate? Next year I bet you’ll make a monster deal for Eddy Curry

  • Jack Knife

Sounds like someone is worried about his starting spot.

  • http://www.twitter.com/boneystarks Boney Starks!

Maybe if Nate complimented Rondo on his metrosexual shirts it’d be different.

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

Nate would be a better fit where he can just come off the bench and drop buckets. Boston is gunna put shackles on his game. Great team and nate is a good player, but not a good fit. Unless nate becomes a pest on defense. Then this could work out.

  • mems

lmao i doubt rondo is worried about nate. rondo is by far the better PG, especially for a team like this. its not even remotely close.

  • Hussman25

(in my Silky Johnson voice) Sounds like Rondo is A SHOE IN.. for “Hater of the Year”… Oh… HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE…. SMH

  • Embark

You guys got Nate for peanuts and you ask why? The C’s bench has been horrible all year and EHouse hasn’t shot over 32% from 3.

  • http://slamonline.com Adam Fleischer

People will see, this is gonna help the Celtics.

  • T-Money

Adam, only thing is I’m not sure the Celtics themselves are seeing it.

  • “what could I say about Nate Robinson that hasn’t already been said about afghanistan…”

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

You can tell the Celtics are a tight group. Bringing in Nate Rob is a good basketball AND business move. Chemistry wise seeing Eddie House go kinda sucks cuz he was a good locker room guy. At least they beat the Lakers last nite, and hopefully they go on a little run here so Nate isnt a scapegoat.

  • http://myspace.com/brandnew Bryan

Well I’m sad to see him go.

  • Orlando Woolridge

Wow, why all the love for House all of a sudden? I must be missing something. Seems to me as if Nate is a huge upgrade.

  • drew

wurd rondo sounds scared…i like this deal because nate now loosens that tight ass offense if doc lets him… oh yea eddie cant ever in his life score the ball like nate..since when did eddie create his own shot…a bunch of bs comin from that celtic locker room

  • Dfrance

I don’t think it’s really hate for Nate as its saddness that House is leaving. I think the C’s are a real close nit group, and they don’t like seeing one of the guys leave.

  • J-Ro

So is Rafer gonna slap Nate?

  • Al29

Pretty sad trade deadline for the Celtics. I wonder how many more championships they’ll win with their Big 3.

  • Logues

AI29: with KG getting old and his legs taking a beating, he just is gonna keep getting slower and more banged up. i give them this yr and maybe next yr, but thats it, unless they make a trade for some young guys

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

@Jack Knife: Sounds like someone is worried about his starting spot.

    Hahahahaha.
Yeah. I bet Rondo is real worried.

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

I Doc/Rondo feeling the way they do, but this is no way to welcome a new teammate.

  • Jrooks

Nate is going to be starting soon

  • oww

lmao 2 will skip slap nate. i think nate will body skip up hahahaaha…but on a serious note, maybe everyone is unsure about lil nate because he’s actually tough at heart, and not putting on a show like the rest of the celtics. im sure he’s taking kg’s lunch as we speak

  • The Philosopher

In a lot of ways, Danny made a brilliant move. Nate consistently destroys 2nd units. I also think Nate will respect Doc more than D’Antoni. Yes, he’s a headcase, but that gives him the edge. Plus, he’s better than House. Period.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Nate will help the Cs. No doubt about it. He’s a lot better than Eddie House at basically everything. Especially defense and ball handling. He’ll bring them some much needed energy and scoring ability off the bench. Plus the crowd will love him.

  • JoeMaMa

Nate Robinson aka The Missing Piece aka The Leprechaun aka The Reason (that Red Auerbach just rolled in his grave)

  • jdn41

i wonder if the knicks will let eddie house bring his kid in every group huddle…

  • Dru Ha

Years ago there was an explosive, strong, fiesty hybrid combo guard who they said could only score in bunches, was selfish, lacked bball IQ, didn’t defend consistently, and was not a starting player on a contending team.

    That player was Vinnie Johnson.

Nate Robinson is the modern day Vinnie Johnson.

He’ll be the 3rd guard on a contending team.

    Nate is the new Microwave.

    Book it.

  • LA Huey

Hey, Duhon. How do you like green? If the pattern continues…

  • loqui

    @jdn41
Sure the Knicks will let the kid in the huddle, but I’m sure he won’t like it much… we lose a lot.
About the trade, I think this is good for the Celtics, Nate is the better basketball player. However, he does control the ball a lot, so their may be chemistry issues.
    Good luck Nate!

  • Yesse

Man this seriously looks like some other Knick will be wearing green at the second half of next season too. If it will continue like this Nate deserves more than Knicks or Celtics.

  • letsmotor

anyone else think that the title of this post was just meant to attract hits?

come on. no one’s saying anything bad about nate, they’re just sad to see house go. plus, even though i feel good about this, no one can be certain of how it’s gonna work out. most trades are at least a little bit of a question mark at first, and to me, doc and rondo are just expressing this sense of caution.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

The Celtics finally have someone off the bench who can handle the ball AND score. I don’t see how this won’t make them better. It’s a huge improvement.

  • riggs

lmao @ this being a pattern. man you haters sure do love to reach.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

I’m trying to imagine what Nate will do against Cleveland or Orlando in the second round.
Yeah. Not pretty for the C’s.

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Great point embark-Eddie’s 3 pt percentage is only slightly higher than Nate’s this year. Eddie (don’t get me wrong, love the dude) is one-dimensional. He shoots 3′s-THAT’S IT. Nate can dribble-drive, has handle, can shoot the mid-range shot, will get the crowd on their feet with dunks, and, most importantly, IS YOUNG. C’s need some youth badly. And anyone who thinks Rondo is “worried about his starting job” is a moron. Riggs is right-when it comes to the Celtics, the hate is deep…see you haters at the parade.

  • Nawlins Realest.

    i hate rondo.

  • The Philosopher

Pound for pound, Robinson is the greatest pure athelete in League history. He’s not a skinny 150 pound guy, either. He has beef. How intriguing of a specimen is this kid? He defies logic(to me).

  • CARTEL

Honestly, this is a good look for Boston…BUT, I think Nate would have been a much better asset for a team like OKC…that would have been a GREAT look…

  • CARTEL

P.S. the Celtics once felt that Rondo wasn’t good enough to lead the team in the pg position but he played well enough to convince the entire league…I see the same exact thing for Nate, the only difference is, ppl already see Nate’s potential…I’m a new yorker that hates the knicks…I support SOME of the players but I hate the organization and staff…and I hated to see Nate go but happy he is playing for a team worthy of his talents…

  • dj

i think that trade will help the celtics in the run 4 the playoffs. Nate will add to the team’s ability to score in different ways.

  • MrMars

Is everyone missing the point that J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker along with Eddie House got traded away for Nate Robinson? The C’s are getting older and their second team is horrible and earlier than most teams, they’re making room for free agency. Nate Robinson is a trade incentive. He might be a sleeper though come playoff time. Think about what he does to the elite east teams. Hawks? Orlando? The Cavs? It’s pretty much a wait and see deal. Knicks looking crazy…i can no longer be a fan until they land Lebron and D-Wade with McGrady and David Lee….whoa!

  • Kyle

Rondo shoots 25 percent from 3, and 59 from the line. He’s so awesome! Wonder why Ainge tried to trade him when he realized Garnett and Ray Allen were all but done.

  • http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3445/3357407353_c868c2d95c.jpg larrylegend

@kyle: but rondo hits when it counts!!

  • letsmotor

@kyle: you forgot to mention that he shoots 52% from the field. not bad for a guard.
I wish he could shoot threes and free throws, but with 14 ppg, 9.7 asg, and a league leading 2.5 spg, i’ll live with crappy shooting.

  • BK All Day

Wasn’t there a pretty good little guard named Nate for the Celtics before? Im just sayin maybe they wanted to bring those days back… think about it. And @Hussman25 I think Nate’s response was “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go home and put some water in Rondo’s momma’s dish.”

  • BK All Day

my bad for the double post I don’t know how that happened.

  • Not Ballin Anymore

Sorry to say NY(Nate) will not make the C’s better
just like the last NIck(Stucbury) never made a mark w/the C’s. Yea House was 1-dimensional, but ya had to stay w/him to stop him. Nate is the Dunk Champion (WOW) ala Spudknick.. Who can he stop on “D” and how many dunks will he get on the bench, Rondo runs the C’s and no 1 else will. the BIG 3 will shoot down a run-away Nate-train.

  • letsmotor

first of all, marbury, even if his stats as a celtic don’t show it, was a decent back up. nobody expected him to come in and average 20 and 9. They just wanted a back up ball handler, and he was good for that (that’s why they offered him a contract extension for this year).

secondly, you can’t compare marbury at that point in his career to nate. they’re both good ball handlers, but the difference is nate’s scoring ability. I still don’t get why people don’t see nate as a plus. i know we can’t be certain of how he’ll work until we actually see him play, but i don’t see any obvious reasons to assume he won’t fit in well.

by the way, to everyone saying he won’t help them out because the last knick wasn’t able to (which actually he was): that is about the dumbest line of reasoning i’ve ever heard.

  • LCD Screen Cleaner

The celtics are assholes. I hope they lose everything and rondo becomes injured forever. Great welcoming committee.

  • Tom

two words why this was a good deal for the celtic; Ball Handling. Eddie House cannot create anything with his dribbling. If Nate is willing two play as a creator for the second unit it will drastically improve bench scoring for Boston, and it will allow Rondo to get more rest.

  • knikknucker

Nate gets a million dollars if his team makes the playoffs. D’antoni or a million extra bucks u do the math.

  • Shem

I’d understand why the knicks would do this trade, clear up cap, nate isn’t necessarily the consistent role model you’d want to build a team with BUT WHY would the celtics do this? House was gooooood, he came off the bench and hit 3′s and usually played with the starting line. Why they would mess with the rotation in a crutial part to their season beats me..

  • http://nationalhighway.blogspot.com jaywalker

The problem with the current celtics was their bench. Many a times, they would field their bench with about 2-3 mins left on the clock and 8-10 point lead. And thats when the turnovers happen, thats when the D sucks, thats when shots wont go. So i guess with Nate coming, they would have a guy who can handle the ball and can run the clock.

For the shooting part, i still feel that house is far better shooter than Nate..but i guess we shall c how that goes!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/san-dova-speak-easy/ San Dova

LOL at Hussman25′s “Silky Johnson” reference. I’m not sure why those guys are so unhappy about Nate–I personally think it’s an upgrade, and Nate can actually HANDLE the ball well and AND shoot. He’s more versatile, a good defender and an explosive scorer. If anything, they better get on their knees and thank Danny Ainge for an improved bench.

  • shukra

rondo sounds like a dumbass. he does sound worried anbout his starting spot…for what? nate is the perennial bench player, he goes off once every couple weeks and then…nothing. as a knicks fan i dont care much either way about this trade. sucks for nate though, he’s on a team that isn’t gonna go far in the playoffs, but has too many goo players for him to get serious minutes. he will probably fade into obscurity.
