CP3′s All-Star Spot Goes to Billups

Monta Ellis will have to wait another year — or perhaps for another injury — to make the ASG: “Tuesday, I asked Ellis, who has vacation plans that involve fishing, if he would be willing to forgo those plans if he gets the call from the league. Ellis: ‘I’ll think about it,’ drawing a chorus of laughs. Looks like Ellis won’t have to give up his chill time on the water. The league announced today that Commissioner David Stern has pegged Denver Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups as the All-Star alternate, taking the place of injured New Orleans point guard Chris Paul. Billups’ fifth All-Star appearance means Ellis won’t be making his first.”

Good stuff, He deserves to be in the game…then again there alot of guys, including Monta Ellis who deserve it too. Too many deserving players and not enough spots.

  • kobemvp247

hopefully brandon roy gets injured then monta will be makin da trip to dallas

  • Hussman25

Mr. Big Shot should have been in from the door, but kudos to stern on him being first in line due injury out west… Monta’s probably next up tho…

  • bakers’ dozen

Billups is always underrated and overlooked. Dude is the most composed PG in the game.

  • Oli

well deserved. how many games have the warriors lost in row now?

  • Ree Roe

He could still make the squad. Roy & Melo are both still banged up

  • slimlim6000

Its all about guards in the west…actually the west has everything…but seriously…all about point guards…mr big shot deserved it…pierce is banged up maybe they could replace him too..dlee or jsmooth?

  • http://espn.go.com/nba Witness

Monta ellis doesn’t deserve a spot. His team is terrible. He averages way too many turnovers and way too less assists at the point guard position. I mean it would be very entertaining to see him play but if anybody not named billups deserved it then give it to aaron brooks or russell westbrook.

  • KoBynum716

you are ALLLLL trippin. monta ellis is fukkin ballin, and he deserves it way more than billups. GSW is suiting like 6 or 7 players every few games, and they’re only constant has been ellis. Billups has to sit back and let Ellis take over.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

ellis is fun to watch in an all star game. in fact the warriors games are played like all star games, with no respect to defense and the outcome of the game!

  • http://JoshDrake Josh D

Seems 2 hav learnt his lesson, instead of mopeds hes fishing

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Wow, Witness doesn’t think Ellis should be an All-Star when he’s averaging 26.5 ppg, 5.4 apg, and 4.2 rpg. And he’s a SHOOTING GUARD who happens to handle the ball.
And Billups is only getting like 1 more assist per game than he is.
Also, screw team records. The Warriors management is turrible.

  • davidR

hey witness, let’s ignore the fact that monta is leading a bunch of d-leaguers (hunter, martin, tolliver, karl!!)

  • Jon

monta ellis is a punk with bad attitude. saying all that stuff about steph curry. he should be glad he has that kinda help. he does not derserve the all star recognition. thank goodness stern has some sense!

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

I never know what an “ALL-STAR” is exactly. Billups is the better guard of the two (he and ellis). He’s the guy I’d want on my team. But my thinking is, ALL-STAR consideration depends entirely on production (the reserves, anyway) and you can’t really argue with 26.5/5.4/4.2. He also shoots at a 5% higher clip than CBills. Everyone gives Chauncey a pass on his FG%, by the way. His 41.6fg%? Same as his career numbers.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Yeah, that’s because FG% is overrated and does NOT mean that much most of the time. But when its Allen Iverson, its suddenly the most important statline in the game of basketball–since they can’t find any other faults with his game. Hypocrites.
FG% doesn’t mean jack sh!t if you’re averaging 9 Free Throw Attempts per game like Allen Iverson, while still shooting better career percentages than Chauncey Billups.

  • Anton

@ witness…..Monta Ellis does NOT play the pointguard position

  • Jay

Monta is hella wack! And he plays for a looser Team coached by Don Nelson. He would not have the stats while playying for a contender.
He’s an allstar concernig tattoos…but thats pretty much it

  • therighttoremainsalient

monta ellis doesn’t deserve to play at the allstar game?! Your all outta ya dam minds – and I hope he has a fishing license.

If a players contract states he get a bonus for making the all-start team, and then get on the team because somebody else get hurt, do they get the bonus? Same question for the person that get’s hurt and can’t play in the game – do they get the bonus? I’m assuming it’s in the wording of the contract of getting selected versus playing etc, but is there a general rule for this? Does CP3 get paid anything for making the team and not plalying – Does Chauncy get paid although he’s on the team just due to special circumstances?

  • http://www.fantasticfansite.com Fontaine

I’m not mad at that pick. Billups deserves it. Monta is a baller though, so he’ll get his. Have to get that “team” better though…

  • http://www.fantasticfansite.com Fontaine

Theres other snubs out there too, especially in the West (R Gay, C Kaman, L Aldrige, C Boozer, M Ellis) Only snubs in the East I see are D Lee (big time) and Josh Boogie from ATL.

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

Billups definately deserves this…dude is cold!

  • Sour Milk

Fontaine: Gay, Aldridge and Ellis snubs!!!??? Come on, the only remotely close to a snub out west is Kaman, but there can be made very good arguments for all the players on the team now so he shouldn’t be too upset. My top 13 are now all selected. I was annoyed Billups didn’t make it to begin with, but hey… KK is my no. 14 on the list. If PP is out David Lee better replace him. Anything else would be a disaster, okay, JSmith is also desverving, but Lee (20, 11, 4, 55% for a not that bad knick team, where he is the only above average player) should be the one.

  • Maya Laku

i have one thing to say:HELL YEAH

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Aaron Brooks, Chris Kaman and Monta Ellis are the three biggest All-Star snubs now in the West.
East is definitely David Lee and Josh Smith.
