Dwight Howard: ‘Vinsanity is back!’

Da-wight had the same reaction as pretty much the rest of the basketball-watching world last night: “Dwight Howard put it best Monday night. ‘Oh my God,’ Dwight said after Vince Carter scored 48 in the Magic’s 123-117 victory over the New Orleans Hornets, ‘Vinsanity is back!’ We echo those sentiments. Oh my God, did you see Vinsanity Monday night? Driving to the hoop for dipsy-doodle scoops. Nailing 3-pointers. Crossover dribbles that tied defenders up in knots.  Wow — 48 points, 19-of-27 shooting and 6-of-10 from 3-point range. Just wow. This is the Vince Carter Magic fans have been waiting for ever since the deal was made during the offseason to bring Vince to town. Not that he has to score nearly 50 points to justify his worth to the team, but he does need to be able to occasionally take over games and lead the Magic to victory. Fans don’t want to boo Carter like they have recently; they want to cheer him like they did Monday night. They want to believe the Magic did the right thing when they gambled after going to the Finals last season, retooled their team and brought in Carter.”

Funny cause I was a tad bit loosing my patience with this experiment and my wife of all people said to me., I never lost faith in Vince, right before she went to bed. She did not watch the 4th Quarter of last nights game…gotta have faith

If this was old Vince Carter, there would have been at least one 360 dunk.
Still, incredible performance. Dude couldn’t miss.

It’s late ’90s superstar comeback week! Next up, Iverson drops 40 three games in a row to make it the East Player of the Week! T-Mac dunks over Dwight for the winning basket! ‘Sheed manages to connect on a trey! It’s all here folks!

like i said on another post, he was never gone… he was just not putting the full effort in…he could do this sort of play every night well now that he’s older maybe not so much. but still he only decides to put in some more effort if people are moaning and whining, then he feeds em a lil sumpin sumpin, and we get this reaction “he’s back” no not back just not lazy for once… or not “hurt” cmon Vince look at Kobe, hurt all the time when do you see him Wince, whine and complain? but none the less, was still nice to see him come out and play. reminds me of the good ol days when he first came into the league.

catching a hot streak on a more or less scrub team doesn’t mean anything
would love to see a consistent vince back at his game though

  • tavoris

I’m sure Dwight won’t be smiling in a couple weeks when he’s back to getting 7 shots a game

It’s good, but one game does not make a full season. Just sayin’

I wouldn’t get used to seeing this. As a raptor fan and a fan of Vince I’m happy to see he still has a special performance or two in his tank, it’s fun to watch. However I always thought this is what seperates the best of the best from the rest. All NBA players are really good, but the elite can do this consistently (maybe not 48 every night) and I never thought Wince had that effort in him. I can only imagine how much pressure comes with that kind of performance on a nightly basis.

VC is a threat to perform like this on any given night. He’s no a LBJ/D-wade etc. player that can do it regularly, but he still has the playmaking ability that forces a D to watch him – which in turn benefits his teammaates. This was just one great night that reminds people of what he can do and my guess he has another 2-3 games this season and the playoffs where we’ll see this again. But that’s about it.

  • TyMo

Yeah he’ll be back to shooting 5-18 on fadeaways in no time.

  • roman

Really, one game he goes off on and he’s back. I hope so, for Orlando’s sake-

“but he does need to be able to occasionally take over games and lead the Magic to victory”, this statement is coming from a supposed franchise player. That is a bit concerning, especially considering Dwight doesn’t rely on his jumper, so if that’s not falling he doesnt have to resort to other things. There is no reason why Dwight shouldn’t be averaging 30 and 15 with 4 blocks. Hakeem should be working with him. If he had half the dexterity of Hakeem, he would dominate nightly, not every so often.

Yea he came wit it…good for him Vince still got it!

  • rob

This was obviously a fluke. Many players can do this occasionally. Look at Andre Miller she got 52. I say, let’s see if VC can do this regularly. Personally I don’t think it will happen. The ball has to go to DH.

but really, not to downplay pat ewing’s investment, dwight needs to be given a chance to work with hakeem
imagine a loaded dwight, he’d be crushing teams

If Vinsanity is back, where are the dunks? Dude looks weary / to his ’99 self, that is…Good shootin’ though.

Looks like Dwight (and the Magic) are finally growing up. They may cause some trouble in the playoffs. They def need Vince’s “A” game though.

anybody see the sunday game where he took over and dominated the celtics? then drop 48 on a back to back? crazy. vince is fine. the team has been working on its chemistry, and its getting there. i love that dwight has been taking and making those bank shots. he is working his way towards mvps.

  • Dallas

Dwight Howard is funny i wanna hang out with him

  • nomde

@ TyMo got it right dude…nweys thats just typical VC…don’t get hooked back by just 1 game ‘coz Wince likes the drama so much that after that game he’ll either get injured or WINCE back to his old self…choking at crucial games

  • nastierthanu

@rob no-one goes for 48 regularly. Plain and simple. Stand out night job well done

  • therighttoremainsalient

okay still throw Vince under the bus go on…
lit up for 48, here’s a guy whos career high is 51 and got that when he was ALOT younger and healthier. crazy.

  • http://www.inbox.lv smiles

to cause trouble in the playoffs they def need vc playing well, but to pass the cavs, howard and hammer must be played together right from the start and lewis should be switched to the small forward position, hope stan van figures the right way
with that being said as much as I like magic, most of his career vc’s been a choker and underachiever and keeping that in mind I somehow don’t wanna trust that vc can carry them in clutch playoff moments
    go magic
