Knee Surgery to Keep Chris Paul Out 1-2 Months

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets have yet to confirm it (they likely will today, after CP3 meets with team doctors), but according to several media reports, the All-Star point guard is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery.

The knee trouble began on Wednesday night in Golden State for Paul when he tweaked it, and on Friday night he aggravated things by crashing into a cameraman on the sidelines.

Paul will likely miss the All-Star Game next month in Dallas, opening the door for someone like Chauncey Billups to take his place. Chris Paul is expected to miss up to two months following the surgical prodecure.

As for the Hornets, their work is cut out for them: they’re currently holding on to the eighth and final Playoff spot in the West, but without their best player, the chances of making the postseason will be dramatically reduced.

Unless, of course, rookie point guard Darren Collison can continue to register jaw-dropping double-doubles (17 points, 18 assists in a starter’s role on Saturday night.) I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Does David Stern select ASG replacements or does it just go to the next highest vote getter from the coaches?

  • kobesbestfriend

most overated player in the league after D12!watch the Hornets flourish and make the playoffs in his absence!Peja and West should be getting 5 plus shots a game without that greedy pg taking ill-advised shots!

  • m. scorn

I’m sure he will still get mvp votes

  • letsmotor

@jumpman3224i think david stern chooses the replacement.

    @kobesbestfriend: i hope you’re being sarcastic.

so sad. not even a noh fan, but here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.

  • jumpman3224

@letsmotor Thanks! Also, here’s to a speedy recovery for CP3

kobesbestfriend must be joking, letsmotor. If not, I advice him to choose another sport to follow.
With that being said, sucks for CP3 and the Hornets. Hope everything will be fine eventually.

    @kobesbestfriend what?

  • j32m

    unbelievable :(

  • cramzy

well….at least we’ll get to see Kobe vs Durant in the first round. That should be fun

  • kobesbestfriend

    CP3 cost Byron his job!

  • JoeMaMa

Kobesbestfriend aka DEREK FISHER, don’t be mad because he handles you.

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

kobesbestfriend: they said the same thing about Jason Kidd years ago. So unless there’s a very weird pattern here, maybe it was just Scott’s time to go.

  • http://www.worldstarhiphop.com The Real

CP3 is a bitch a## Nucca. I know for a fact lot of dudes around the league dont like him (including teammates). Who will replace him in the ASG?? They should give his spot to T-mac , hahaha

  • will

Yeah! What a greedy bastard that Chris Paul is with his league-leading 11.2 assists per game!!! Give up the rock for christ sake!! More shots for Peja! – the three-point shooter who isn’t even shooting a better percentage than that dastardly ball-hog. GTFO bruh…

CP3 is just trying to go to Miami for Superbowl week and game, then he will come back with a venagenace, when he sees his Saints, become Aints and get beat by the mighty Colts.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Todd Spehr

The silver lining: Chauncey, with his career-high scoring average and 2nd best record in the West, might get an All-Star nod.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

cp and d12 overated? only in your kobe´s balls sucking mind kobespassivefriend…get well mister Paul and heres to hope your team misses postseason so mine has less chances to do that…also, THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST STUPID CAMERA MEN POSITIONING INJURY RELATED SH1T, MORE WILL COME FOLKS, MORE WILL COME…

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

I was thinking the same thing, Todd.

kobesbestfriend stop it. How’s CP3 overrated??? people hate us laker fans because of morons like you

  • http://www.teflinprague.com SAB

    too true rob…
this is all david west’s fault

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

THE TRUTH: Kobe Bryant stole Chris Paul’s MVP that Chris Paul rightfully deserved. Truth.

  • Ace

I’m a Farmar fan and I wouldn’t say that Farmar is better than CP3. Hope he gets well soon.

  • mike

    @ rob agreed 100%

I swear I lose brain cells reading what he posts

  • giogolo

CP3 for a PG dominates the ball to much..Nash his only 2nd to him only nash is more dynamic and has to teammates who really suck at shooting most of the time he doesnt delegate to them,. if they swap teams i tell you CP3 wont be getting 11apg. cuz no one in suns bench can shoot ryt now.

  • mike

channing frye is 3rd in the league in 3pt makes
jared dudley is 2nd in 3pt percentage
both come off the phx bench o_o

  • Seven Duece

I love CP3, but damn if he doesn’t dominate the ball a heck of a lot. Hopefully, the players on the team that have either the skill or mindset to create their own shot, develop the confidence and consistency to do so in his absence and make the team better balanced.

    jumpman, Stern decides replacements.

  • LeoneL

Thank you Jukai. Get well soon CP.

  • letsmotor

@kobesbestfriend: farmar>cp3?!! Ha. I can see that you’re a Laker fan and you’re devoted to your team, but really?

  • http://www.twitter.com/PDXGayBball dma

@giogolo – you say phoenix has terrible three point shooters? have you not seen the Hornet’s roster? Outside of Peja, they have nobody that can shoot, and Peja’s been sucking it up since he’s been in NO. It’s amazing that Paul is still averaging that many assists with that roster he’s playing with.

  • matt

dude’s gunna leave town soon and it’ll be ugly…mark my words

  • http://www.nooksurfer.com NookSurfer

He needs to get well soon, the team really needs him. I don’t see them going anywhere w/out him.

  • underdog

Damn, arthroscopic knee surgery is a b*tch. Hope he gets better soon. I also hope he won’t lose too much of his quickness.

  • benflook@hotmail.com

Wouldn’t you be dominating the ball with that roster?Right now it looks like there second best player is his back up! And there were games before CP3 got injured where they would finish the game together. Theyve got some nice pieces but there not athletic enough. That will happen when Peja is getting major minutes at the three. CP3, Thornton and Emeka are a solid 1,2,5 but David West isn’t producing like he was two years ago.

  • Squirrel7

I thought this would kill my fantasy team (as I used my first pick on him), but I nabbed Darren Collison, and he’s doing pretty damn well in CP3′s absence. Hopefully he can keep it up.

  • http://www.behindtheb.blogspot.com Sam Raphael Chadwick

This is bad because its Chris Paul but its also good because it will help the developlment of Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton

so I dunno if this is really as bad as people think

  • Sam Z

does anyone know how much his athletisim will be affected by the surgery?
