PETA vs Larry Bird

PETA wants Larry Legend to help stop the slaughter of so many birds (what, you didn’t know this was a serious issue?): PETA hopes to help draw attention to the plight of birds by appealing to another bird. Larry Bird, that is. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter on Wednesday to the Indiana Pacers president, asking him to stop endorsing McDonald’s.  PETA claims that in McDonald’s U.S. operations, ‘chickens still have their throats cut while they are conscious and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks,’ while McDonald’s European operations render chickens unconscious before they are processed. ‘With the nagging back problems that plagued him throughout his career, Bird is the first person who should sympathize with the millions of chickens who are killed for McDonald’s — chickens whose wings, legs and backs are routinely broken,’ PETA director Dan Shannon, who describes himself as a lifetime Boston Celtics fan, said in a release.”

I wonder if Stephen Curry gets any love to help advertise for curry dishes.

I’m mostly down with PETA’s cause, but stuff like this NEVER WORKS. It just makes them look silly. I wish they’d get that.

They should approach The Rooster too then.

now that I think of it, larry does look a bit like a rooster. makes the choice even more obvious. they should make a commercial where a naked and cold (for the goosebumps) Larry Bird gets thrown around in one of those chicken processing machines (using CGI of course, we don’t wanna kill him). That’ll disgust enough people for sure and they’ll never even be able to swallow a single Chicken McNugget ever again

Rudy Gay probably hopes this trend doesn’t catch on.

  • JoeMaMa

Definitely down with the cause; when you treat an living like a dollar sign, everyone loses, whether it be health-wise, environmental, an animal rights issue.
But not a basketball issue. I agree with Ryan; this stunt makes PETA look publicity hungry. Stick to Pam Anderson.

  • riggs

when PETA stops killing animals themselves then they can ask people to help.

  • Buschfire

by writing this message 1000 innocent chickens just died.

  • rob

@tavoris they don’t. I wonder if PETA is concerned about those poor rats too.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I thought PETA’s whole cause was to get attention. They don’t care what kind, just attention. They’ll use slavery, the holocaust or anything else to get it.

PETA is ridiculous…..a bunch of loonies who try to legitimize themselves by creating an orgnaization. What a waste of $$$$$$$ that could be used for more important issues going on in the world

  • UnRel

@neaorin… i was thinking the same for Luther Head…

TicketMater vs Kevin Garnette aka the Big Ticket.

TicketMaster has reached out to Kevin Garnette aka the Big Ticket to raise awareness of how people just simply dispose of used tickets. A letter written by TicketMaster explains that tickets are often acquired at a really high price, but at some point the owner just tries to rid him/her self of said ticket, esp. if the ticket has delivered what the ticket holder wanted to see. Kevin Garnette has stated that he is interested since his teammate ray allen reminds him of the ticket that serves it’s purpose than is no longer wanted.

This just in- Larry bird has declined, but Chris “Birdman” Anderson has joined forces with Peta, as has Hersey HAWKins and ROBIN Lopez. No word yet if Brian CARDINAL has accepted PETA’s invitation yet.
