Post Up: Blazers Best Spurs

And Bron is a beast as always.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

Thursdays belong to TNT in my world. The light schedule would normally bother me because I like options and also like games playing in the background while I write, but on Thursday it feels right. Almost as if it’s easing me into the weekend, which is always, always far busier than my Monday-Friday.

We’ve got the Kings on Sunday and I can’t wait. Excited to see Mr. Tyreke Evans in person.

Now, LeBron. I could handle seeing him in person two, three, twelve times against. The guy is just so good. I don’t even know what else there is to say. Last night, it was his passing that got me. Love to see him get the ball, and he’s looking ahead, already knowing where his teammates are going to go and where he needs to get the ball.

Cleveland won their 10th straight game last night, pulling away from the Heat in the second half to get the 102-86 victory. It was a four-point game at the half, and then the Cavs pulled away steadily and the game was never really in doubt in the fourth quarter.

Wade went cold in the second, and his shots all looked short. Probably a result of the Heat playing the night before in Boston.

The Cavs are fun playing with this big lineup. How good has J.J. Hickson become all of a sudden? Maybe it’s been a gradual improvement, but every time I see the Cavs, he’s so active. His energy seems to get everyone else on his team fired up, too. Last night he had the dunk on Dwyane Wade and then –even more impress– was the block on Wade in the second half.

LeBron attempted 21 free throws, which seems insane, but the guy is just unstoppable when he drives to the hoop. I don’t know what else you can do except foul him. He finished with 36 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Daniel Gibson missed the first half after being with his pregnant fiancee Keyshia Cole, who was hospitalized for precautionary reasons. He arrived to the arena and was in uniform on the bench before the second quarter was through. Yikes.

Man. I feel like so many of my Thursdays end with the Blazers pulling off a crazy run, or finding themselves in a close game and wild finish. Last night was no different, with the Blazers coming from behind to get the 96-93 victory against the Spurs.

Loved seeing Brandon Roy on the bench fist-pumping and grinning throughout the fourth quarter. He had good reason, with his teammates racing back in the fourth from 10-down to take the lead late and hold off the Spurs in a furious final two minutes. Wow. Portland outscored the Spurs 30-19 in the final quarter and they did so without Brandon Roy, while also losing Jerryd Bayless to a knee injury.

Somehow though, they keep finding ways to pull together and win. LaMarcus Aldridge was awesome, finishing with 28 points and 13 boards and Martell Webster hit all five of his 3-point attempts as he scored 21 on the night. Andre Miller had an 11-point, 10 assist double-double. He also had the boneheaded play of the night when he fouled George Hill. When Hill hit the first free throw and missed the second on purpose, meaning the Spurs could have gotten the board and made a three. Luckily for the Portland crowd, this didn’t happen.

Oh, yes. Mike Dunleavy stepped down as the Clippers coach. I wasn’t really expecting that to go down yesterday. Also, Paul Pierce is hoping to make a return to the court on Sunday against the Magic. For some reason, I don’t feel like he’ll be good to go by then, but I hope so, for his sake!

Okay, have a great Superbowl weekend, everyone!

Blazers have been hit by 2 many injuries this year

Good morning to you, Holly MacKenzie.

  • http://www.slamonline.com MooButter

Two Phantom fouls on Wade put him in some trouble but one seemed deserved after the no call when JJ dunked on him (Slam of the Day?). And was Dorrel Wright wearing Nike Air Bacons?

Holly, I get to see Tyreke on March 16th in SAC against the Lakers…I cant wait! Have fun!

  • T-Money

I’ll reserve judgment on Reke’s career until I know for a fact that he has ditched all of his HS friends. You know, the ones who shoot people from the backseat of cars.

So D’Antoni realized two years too late what everybody else knew: Duhon sucks. The guy has no freaking clue, how you ebnch a guy like Nate for 14 straight games without any good reason then declare him your starting pg from now on and drop the former pg from the rotation altogether? There’s no rationale to any of his moves, every player on the Knicks besides David Lee can play 5 or 35 mins on any given night.

Although he was behaving like Tazmanian Devil all night long, (rage issues much?) the play Popovic drew up late in the game to try and equalize was, for lack of a better word, beautiful. 4 Spurs players touched the ball and 2 of em could have taken an open 3. Great, great inbounds play. Other thoughts on Spurs-Blazers; why was Tony on the bench for so long in the 4th, even though he was the only Spur apart from Manu who scored at will. George Hill wasnt the solution there. Timmy needs to upgrade to Win7 or sth, some ridiculous turnovers in the post during crunchtime & mostly against Juwan? What the??

Watching my Heat breaks my heart. Dwade gone break down and cry in a middle of a fast break one of these days. Get the man some help Riles…props to JJ Hickson for the block and the dunk on flash tho..and I kinda dig Lebron at Point Guard. It was cool seeing him and Wade bring the ball up all night…that is all

  • http://Www.lkz.ch/basket Darksaber

Oh and Manu “Batswatter” Ginobili was incredible on offense. He was all sidestepping, shotmaking demon in the 2nd half. Literaly unstoppable.

  • T-Money

Yeah that play by Pop was something else. He’s my favorite Xs and Os guy in crunch time with SVG. SVG has a money play where Shar curls in front of the inbounder and flicks a baseline 3. I also like how Jax will take it full court with 5-6 seconds left. The defense never knows what to do because they can’t pressure Kobe in his own backcourt and he has more room to set up his shot.

Since when did Daniel Gibson get with Keyshia Cole?

  • http://www.bluefont.com Hisham

should’ve watched the blazer game… although the cavs game was sort of entertaining. mike beasley was shooting pretty well, but didn’t seem into the game at all. total enigma, that guy.. plus JJ is learning a lot from varejao in terms of how to make yourself available by cutting and stepping in from the weakside for easy dunks. his basketball skills with a ball are almost non existent; he’s all athleticism. But by moving without the ball he’s good for double digit points a lot of nights

Darksaber: I believe Tony was on the bench whenever a three was drawn up.
And Manu is still awesome. The moves that guy can pull out still blow my mind.

niQ: Since at least nine months ago, I’m guessing.

  • http://www.bluefont.com Hisham

that reminds of this story I saw on failblog.org a while back about a guy thinking his sperm must have been really strong because the girl he’d been seeing for 3 months just found out she was already about 5 months pregnant…

LeBron should just send JJ Hickson to the dunk contest as his replacement. The Spurs look like my uncle after too many pastrami sandwiches.

  • http://Www.lkz.ch/basket Darksaber

@Hisham: that guy should apply for work @ Nasa. He’s a regular rocket scientist.
@jukai: not really, Tony was kept on the bench in the 4th for what seemed like A 4-5 mins stretch, not just for 3 point situations. In the meantime the Blazers were fastbreaking to points and Andre Miller was schooling Hill (2 big And1′s).

  • http://www.bluefont.com Hisham

Hey Tariq you have a book out in Arabic right? I’m interested in reading it. Do you sell it online, via amazon.com maybe?

  • http://www.bluefont.com Hisham

yeah Dark, I was thinking that guy is on to something! skip nasa, give him a nobel prize

  • LA Huey

Love how Hickson is catching on and Andy starting to ditch the flops for solid D. And wow, I did not know Danny Green had a game jersey under those warm-ups.

  • http://myspace.com/brandnew Bryan

I didn’t watch either game. The cavs vs heat is stale and I hate the other two teams. I did get worked on nba 2k10 last night. Twice. But it was the first time I’ve ever played the game sooo..

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariqُُ

    Hisham:
Yeah, you can find it on neelwafurat.com

Yeah Hish, i mean if Barack can get one…

  • http://www.bluefont.com Hisham

Thanks Tariq. haha Dark i’m not touching that with a 30 foot pole

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

    lol@Ryan Jones, Good call.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariqُُ

I’ll take this one, Hisham. Giving Obama the Nobel is like giving Robert De Niro an Oscar for “Godsend” or “City by the Sea.”

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

LBJ is 7-0 against Bryant, Wade, and Durant.
    MVRepeat.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

LaMarcus took us home! thats an all-star in the making right there..Martell Webster as clutch as the come, great for is confidence…hope Rudy Fernandez can be like Manu, and ultimatly an NBA champion like him too, think he got Ginobili potential! Get well B-Rex! @anton, no contest really

  • http://Slamadamonth.com Mvp23100

    @anton
dont forget dwights a witness to

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Actually Tariq, not at all. De Niro has been snubbed by the Oscars so many times that any “make up” win can be explained with reason.
Obama hasn’t done anything. Yet. So until he comes out with the Martin Scorsese classics (ie stopping a war because that will actually be keeping PEACE), the Peace Prize is totally random.
