The Scott Brooks for C.O.Y Push Has Begun

The Oklahoma City media is quick with this stuff (we’re still in February, folks), but that’s not to say that they’re totally off base here: “With each win the Thunder tacks on to its record, Scott Brooks’ resume for Coach of the Year only becomes stronger. But the Thunder’s lead man will tell you that’s the last thing on his mind. ‘The last individual award I won was MVP of my college team,’ Brooks said. ‘You think I care about individual awards?’ Maybe not, but if the Thunder continues its winning ways, Brooks might have to make room on his mantle for the Red Auerbach Trophy. The Thunder is now 12 games over .500 after Sunday’s win at Minnesota bumped the team’s record to 33-21. With 28 games remaining, Oklahoma City is already 10 games better than last year’s season-ending total. ‘I think he should be in that conversation,’ said Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant. ‘He’s helped us as a group this whole year, and we’ve become better.’ Brooks has a serious shot at snagging the hardware.”

deserves it, but he should fight AGAINST it, since most COY’s get fired w/in 18 months

Brooks deserves to win, no doubt, but I think VDN deserves a couple votes. He was essentially fired 2 months ago, kept the team together (besides Tyrus), Rose and Noah have improved dramatically, and Deng is playing at the level he was in 06-07. Honestly, I wish VDN wins it so he can get fired, but he deserves some consideration.

    He’s good for it.

TOTTALY DESERVED if it happens mainly cause they play outstanding D, thats why theywin..But JERRY SLOAN SHOULD WIN THIS, TERRIFIC COACH and Jazz up there in the wild wild West…a litle biased here but sarge MacMillan at least deserves some consideration given the fact that was without half of the roster 50 games and still is witthout the 2 centers that make them good defensively!

I hope Don Nelson gets it because then they might actually fire him an blame it on the curse lol

@dlouis: ill have what youre smoking, vinny the black didnt get better as a coach because theyre winning, rose got better from his bad ankle.

I hate how this award pretty much always goes to the coach whose team exceeds preseason expectations. The credit for team continuity and individual player improvement (Westbrook & KD) is often given to the coach. The ability to make major adjustments during the season (due to trades or injuries) or getting players to buy into a system (new coach) should be the emphasis in choosing the award.

Larry Brown, Scott Brooks, Phil, Doc.

    Nate, too.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

LBrown or Scott Brooks hell yeah, Doc and Phil only if theyre winning 70 games!

@riggs – The Bulls could have easily continued their slide after the circus trip. You have to give him some credit for keeping the players working. He doesn’t deserve the COY, but he should get a few votes.

If I had a vote, I’d vote for Jerry Sloan.

  • barnabusb

Jerry MF Sloan. Has he ever won a CotY? His teams are always prepared, play hard, and move the ball well.

  • tavoris

@barnabusb….he’s never won it, and probably doesn’t care.

My vote goes to the person who gets to coach the Nets for the day.

Macmillan is great…limiting his players!! He is far far away from the best coaches in the league
