Wade: No Beef With Spoelstra

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The Miami Heat are in the midst of an ugly five-game losing streak, and currently sit in eighth place as far as Playoff spots are concerned in the Eastern Conference. As you might imagine, Dwyane Wade is less than happy.

Following the Heat’s loss to Chicago on Saturday, Wade made some pointed comments about the team’s offensive execution — comments that seemed to hint that he was less than thrilled with his coach’s schemes. Yesterday, it was time to play the role of peacemaker.

From the Sun-Sentinel:

Two days after complaining the Heat’s offense is too predictable and saying the team should be doing better, guard Dwyane Wade said he doesn’t have an issue with coach Erik Spoelstra. Wade said if anyone thinks he does have a problem with Spoelstra they misconstrued his postgame words after Saturday’s 95-91 loss at Chicago.

“I don’t have a problem with coach at all,” Wade said after Monday’s practice. “Me and him are on one page with each other.” Wade, a six-time All-Star, also said he doesn’t put himself above his teammates. “It says ‘Heat’ on the front,” he said of the team’s jerseys. “It doesn’t say ‘Dwyane Wade.’ t’s not about Spo,” Wade said. “Of course when you’re losing someone is going to find a way to say, ‘Hell is starting in Miami.’ “

Everyone in Miami seems to be in agreement that Wade and Spoelstra have a great relationship, and that this was nothing more than Dwyane venting some of his frustration with his team’s performance, not necessarily just the coach’s play calling.

For his part, Erik Spoelstra says adjustments will be made to the Heat’s rotation at the end of games going forward. It remains to be seen if said changes will be enough to keep (or simply make) Dwyane Wade happy.

*cough cough bullsh*t* Wade did not necessarily add.

  • BackInBlack

    wade is going 2 chicago

  • ENDS

Wade is also playing like crap let us add

  • cramzy

I wouldn’t say Wade’s playing like crap. I watch the heat start to finish and every game its Dwade going off in the first half to keep them afloat and then fading in the end. Usually its fatigue or double teams, and for some reason no one understands that Beasley is the second best option and should probably get more shots/pt in the fourth. Its sad to see Wade beat double teams, get to the basket and find a wide open Udonis Haslem/Dorrell Wright. You know how that story ends

  • Hawkules

@ ENDS…I agree. And to clarify, on the games I’m able to watch, Wade just seems different. He has built his reputation on really taking over a game in the fourth quarter in close games and we just haven’t really seen that side of him. He just doesn’t seem to take care of the ball of late.

You know what it reminds me of, Kobe 3-4 years ago. I think we will still get it together though

  • JoeMaMa

Wade’s not leaving Miami for Chicago (he said so), and I think he also said he’s not going to NY. Where else can the guy go? I think he’s resigning, and I’m sure the lure of Miami will get a few others sniffing. Give the youngsters another year with a one more big name and that team will be right back up there.

  • Hangtime Hec

No. He is coasting. He’ll linger around on a fast-break defensively if didn’t get a call or caused a turnover. Or take his sweet time coming to the halfcourt. Its not all wade tho, Coach Spo needs to stop with the questionable sub patterns.

  • T-Money

wade has been kind of a whiney b-tch this year.

  • floe

    wade’s off to cleveland succkas!

  • Hangtime Hec

To me he really isn’t acting like a leader. His arrogance is starting to diminish is likability as a player.

JoeMaMa: When exactly has he said that? I’ve read the exact opposite (Ie that he wont commit either way but he has to keep his options open)
Please be careful what information you spread around.

Wade, has been playing like crap, especially at the end of games. He’s not finishing like he should. I do think he should go to chicago. D.Rose and him, would be nice to see.

  • JoeMaMa

Jukai: if I say something like that, more than likely it’s coming from hoopshype.com or cnnsi.com, not my imagination.
I can’t find the links (both old), but the crux of both was that Wade much preferred the Miami winters to the frozen ones in Chicago. As for New York, fromthebaseline.com wrote a piece quoting the New York Times saying Wade has no desire to play with the Knicks. It goes on to say that Wade wants to stay in Miami. It was written in August, yes…but he stated the desire to stick with one team for his career.

@ ALL THE HATERS how is wade playing like crap 27 6 and 6 is crap

cosign RealD….he’s a beast. They got no bench whatsoever.

  • monkeyball

Cosign RealID as well. Wade’s stats are at least on par with his career averages (which are grrreat) and his clutch performance (for those who argue he’s not taking over games as much) is also not down significantly, according to 82games.com.
Wade works his ass off. He’s on a mediocre team, and there are fewer opportunities for heroics.

  • onlyclipsfanonslam

isn’t Riley still the one running the show? Or do we actually believe Spoelstra is somehow in charge?

  • sean

Wade gets double teamed like no other player in the NBA,even triple teamed at times, wich is very insulting to the coaching staff and his teammates. Even when the lanes are extremely wide open for a drive, they all seem to pull up for the jumpshot instead of attacking the hoop and creating fouls. Wades biggest problem is the help he never seems to have. People always seem to want him to save the day, even after he’s saved so many days. The man is exhausted, give him a break, even his die hard fans seem to be turning on him, they don’t even show up to the arena to bring that excitement out of him. Feel for the guy, don’t knock him with out taking a closer look.

  • Jalepino Sausage

if he goes to cleveland , good nite sucas !

  • that dude

What’s the offensive scheme? Giving the ball to Wade and four guys watching.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

that dude knows what he’s talking about.

  • rob

Wade is not playing at his level because his team sucks and he’s sick of it. Dwayne is playing just to fulfill his contract obligations. No motivation, no sense of purpose, nothing. Next season he’s gone.

  • coolhandluke

LOL at the comments saying wade is playing like crap, that equates to a human who knows nothing of basketball, let alone knowing of how to be a fan of it.

time to wake up, miami heat. 5 losing streak is bad.

  • T-Money

bron took hughes, snow, drew and big z to the finals. just sayin. theres no reason to not give your 100. ever.

  • http://www.drippet.com Anthony

    man i hope he resigns!

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

Off topic a little, but don’t you think Spo looks like Matt Dillon in ‘There’s something abut Mary’ in that photo?

  • therighttoremainsalient

he’s a little something. beasley backs his man down. into the midpost he’s on the left side (with back to the basket) – no double team comes and he just scoops around his man, goes to the cup and finger rolls in a beautiful scoop shot for 2 easy points. why this doesn’t get done 13 times a game i have no idea…. he would surely attract a double team (particularly if udonis/Jo’neal is up off the top of the key where if his man drops he can hit that 18 footer) from the top of not a wing – put wade out there with richardson and just react off the defensive scheme… why this doesn’t get a run more often I dont know. beasley should be around the 19 ppg mark this season.
