Will Antawn Jamison Start for the Cavs?

Despite All-Star numbers, Antawn is by no means guaranteed a starter’s role on his new team: “Don’t expect Antawn Jamison to step right into the Cavaliers starting lineup. Cavaliers coach Mike Brown isn’t even sure yet …. So who does Brown choose? Jamison, who is averaging 20.5 points and 8.8 rebounds this season and is a two-time all-star? or the up-and-coming Hickson? ‘I don’t know yet,’ Brown said. ‘A lot of times you kind of just go off gut feel. For a little bit I was like, ‘Let’s start (Jamison).’ After about five hours of feeling that way, I don’t know if I’m going to. Then I thought about it again.”’

    Mike Brown, ladies and gentlemen.

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

Of course he will start. Just maybe not the first game or so. I think slam just likes to receive comments bashing players and coaches.

  • Omnixyience (Philippines)

    just fire Mike Brown lol

  • T-Money

Ehhhh… can you really have 3 guys on your bench (West, Andy, Twan) playing more than the 3 guys in front of them?

  • LeoneL

    he should.

  • Hussman25

Y IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION! NO WAY HICKSON STARTS OVER TWAN??? If Hickson does BROWN AND FERRY both need to be ax’d!!! (and yes Hickson has played well, but this is Antwan Jamison people!) He’s the better 4 by far!

Like I said…the Eastern conference is Mike Brown’s to lose…

  • J-Ro

Hickson will start the rest of the season. But Twan starts in the playoffs.

  • Orlando Woolridge

Hickson is ok, but I think JJ’s value may be a little inflated by the fact that he plays with one of the best players ever. Would people even be talking about him if he played in Sacto? Jamison is by far the better player imo.

CANT THEY PLEASE FIRE GRIMMOS… HE IS THE WACKEST COACH. THEY SHOULD JUST LET LEBRON BE PLAYER COUCH. SHIT HE HOLDS THE BALL 19 OUT OF THE 24 SECONDS ON THE SHOT CLOCK ANYWAY, SO THEY REALLY DONT NEED A COUCH TO TELL THEM THAT.LOL

  • Logues

the thing i hate about mike brown is every time they show him on the sideline hes got that same stupid *ss look on his face like he just sh(t his pants or he has to take a sh(t REAL bad

  • riggs

why was this man coach of the year?!?!?!

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

Twan is a much better option, but I think having him come off the bench playing more total minutes and minutes when LeBron’s not on the court witht he second team may be the better way to use him. Regardless of who starts, I think he’ll be on the court at the end of games when things are close. One advanatage of Twan over Stat is that Twan is willing to do whatever it takes to win – starting or not. I don’t thing Stat has that same kind of mentality.

Your 2009 Coach of the Year, ladies and germs.

In many ways, I understand the COY award and how they are often given to undeserving recipients. I mean, it IS hard to really follow what each coach does, to listen in on how they coach and see first hand whether they are doing a good job or not. Much of coaching is behind closed doors, so it’s a tough award to give out.
With that said, the COY award should be renamed more accurately as Coach-of-the-most-overachieving-team award for here on out.

I agree that Mike Brown doesn’t have a clue on offense but why is nobody mentioning that he’s arguably the best defensive coach in the whole league. Actually, scratch that, he IS the best defensive coach in the NBA. He can integrate guys like Mo and Shaq who have been known to dog it on D and still have a top-3 defense. I mean, Mike D’Antoni sucks -ss at coaching defense and nobody is saying that he’s the worst ever.

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

    ^I agree with T-Money.

  • Yesse

Fire Mike Brown if he aint starting. His fault why Shaqs numbers are so low anyway.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    duh

  • LA Huey

T-Money: I agree. However, why doesn’t he have an asst coach run the O (like Doc has Tom do w/ the D in Boston)? Also, (and I’m an LBJ fan btw) I think LeBron doesn’t really want a structured offense so Cavs management and the coaching staff concede it to him.

  • cru_thik305

THANK YOU T-MONEY!!! Mike brown is definitely a defensive minded coach, which is why cleveland is one of the top defensive teams. you dont really want to have a offensive minded coach, ( dantoni, nelly, etc) And just because jamison is the better player doesnt mean he just jump in and start playing 40+ minutes every night. Give him sometime to learn and catch up. Get of Mike Brown’s back lol

  • J

LA Huey: actually he has. i think its Michael Malone. actually I’m pissed that they let go of john kuester last summer.

he, and the cavs got pwned by my Bobcats.

So many idiotic comments in here it’s ridiculous. Example #1 – “Hickson starts for the regular season but Antawn starts in the playoffs.” Why would you mess with a lineup to start the most important time of year and hope the chemistry is there? He starts so the coaches can see how he will fit in. Example #2 – Any comment saying “Fire Mike Brown”. Why would he want to just come out and say how he’s going to set his lineup and allow opposing teams to prepare for it? I don’t recall people saying “Fire Phil Jackson” when the Bulls were so close but losing to the Pistons. Example #3 – “It’s Mike Brown’s fault Shaq’s numbers are so low”. This one makes me laugh the most. Couldn’t possibly be the fact that he’s older, slower, heavier, more gravity bound, less agile than ever could it? Nahhh, couldn’t be.

Mike Brown is NOT A GOOD DEFENSIVE COACH. He is a GOOD DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. He has made some TERRIBLE IN-GAME DEFENSIVE DECISIONS, take a look at the Cavalier’s awful loss to the Magic. He may run some great defensive schemes, but when he has to make changes to them, just pencil down the Cavaliers to lose.

  • WOODY

You can’t start a player from the beginning who doesn’t know the offensive and defensive lineups. Jamison appears to be a quick learner and will catch on fast. I predict he starts within the week. Brown IS a great defensive coach and is really getting better on offense. Look at the Cavs roster. There’s really only about three guys who should be bench fixtures. You can’t have a 12 man rotation. It’ll take a few games to get the rotations down. Chicago’s not going to knock them out of the division lead, so there’s time and space to experiment.
