Cavs Putting Press on Zydrunas Ilgauskas

The Plain Dealer reports on the Cavs’ efforts to bring back the big fella, but honestly now, how much prodding does really need?: “According to league sources, shortly after Ilgauskas cleared waivers and became a free agent Monday afternoon, the team swung into action. After not speaking with him since he was traded Feb. 17, Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry flew to New York after being with Shaquille O’Neal for his thumb surgery in Baltimore on Monday morning. Sources said Ferry met with Ilgauskas, who has been working out for the past week in New York, where he maintains an off-season home. It is believed Ferry made Ilgauskas an offer to re-sign with the team at that time. Then on Tuesday, sources said, several of Ilgauskas’ former and perhaps soon-to-be reunited teammates came to see him after the team flew into town for Wednesday’s game against the New Jersey Nets. There are some indications Ilgauskas could make his decision known very soon, perhaps as early as today.”

he couldn’t go anywhere else really. it’ll be good to see Z finish his career in Cleveland…..maybe with a ring?

  • Ree Roe

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

I wonder what Z is doing right now…pick & pop with a lamp?

  • The D Train

    worst. kept. secret. ever.

  • cramzy

Come on son! They cant love him that much of they traded him. He should get down with Orlando or Boston out of spite

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

trying to make this deal look as non-shady as possible? LOL, everybody knows already Danny Ferry should stop playing stupid.

  • Sparty’s Law

I really hope he signs somewhere else. Anywhere else. Just because this is such a shady, bogus rule.

  • Ree Roe

I just hope Z realizes that CLE has played him for a fool/tool since he got traded. My message to Big Z:

    Yo Z,

They gonna trade you for somebody else & b/c they know youre loyal they put on a weak ass effort to act like they gave a f*** about you in the first place. Let’s not forget that they disrespected you during the season by not allowing you to get the Cavs record for games played in CLE. You had to do that on the road big homie. Plus, CLE doesn’t have the most mid level cap room to sign Z (ATL does tho)…so that 1.5 milli you had to give back to WAS for the buyout is still a gaping hole in your bank account. You ain’t gonna get that back with the Cavs this season either.

Bottomline, come to the A. You’ll actually be treated with respect & dignity, play a major role on an Eastern Contender & you’ll get paid like you’re supposed to.

    Holla,

  • Sparty’s Law

It would be really funny if Shaq ends up missing the playoffs and Z doesn’t go back to them. I would enjoy that very much.

  • Boogie

    Cosign Sparty.

Also would like Z to go to Nuggets. Help them crush the west when they finally have an actual center, and then proceed to win a chip against Cleveland, ushering in the Age of Melo and truly starting the greatest rivalry in the NBA. Melo vs Bron. I respect kobe, but lets be honest, hes not the future.

Bron then goes to NY, crushed both from the loss to Denver and especially by the crucial game 6 dagger Big Z hits in his face, ultimately leading to the Cav’s loss of the Chip to Melo’s finals mvp performance.
He goes to NY because Melo’s nuggets show that you need a team not a “supporting cast” to win a chip. This aint a movie y’all. Hey, that truly would be an Amazing Happening.

  • Doomer

Hey Z, tell Cavs you will return ONLY IF they give you HALF of LeBron’s salary, merchandising and advertising revenues.

  • rashado

boogie that was hilarious. i’m a lakers fan and i’d still like to see that happen, just for laughs.

@Boogie I’m not a Nuggets fan but I think the Nuggets are good to go without Z. Maybe a shooting guard addition will do

  • therighttoremainsalient

you know the words Z: SHOW. ME. THE. MONEY.

  • neaorin

Ok enough with the moronic statements. Nobody on the Cavs liked trading Z, but it was necessary. It was the last chance to significantly improve the team this season. He had a big expiring contract. Why? Because Danny Ferry made a priority out of giving him a $55 million dollar deal back in ’05. The organization has supported big Z through numerous leg injuries back when people were saying he won’t play in the NBA ever again. The games played record is water under the bridge – a mistake by the coach that everyone got over. You should too. Big Z got his record and standing O the very next game – AT HOME, not on the road. Re-watch the Phoenix game and see for yourself how it all ended. This trade while making every Cavs fan queasy never denied Z the ability to finish his career in Cleveland because everyone knew the Wizards were going to buy him out. And Z’s back account is just fine thanks to more than a decade of the Cavs paying him eight figures.

They didn’t come to talk to Z. They came to buy some DVDs
