Clyde Frazier Compares Toney Douglas to Himself

Toney received the ultimate compliment from a living legend, who broke it down for the NY Post: “Clyde has enjoyed watching rookie Toney Douglas emerge as the team’s starting point guard over the past few weeks. Douglas’ defensive tenacity reminds Clyde of himself, and he has made a point to talk to Douglas during the team’s travels. ‘I think we’re similar players — he does things I used to do,’ Frazier said. ‘He’s not just a one-dimensional player. He can score and does an excellent job on defense getting in passing lanes, keeping guys outside of the paint, which is what you need. The defense starts with the guards. It’s crucial for the Knicks. He even rebounds, hangs around the free throw extended, getting rebounds.’ And Douglas has an intangible trait that few have possessed during the Knicks’ depressing nine-year stretch — and nobody possessed quite like Clyde. ‘He likes pressure,’ Frazier said. ‘When the game’s on the line, he wants the ball.”‘

now if only Douglas had Frazier’s coolness… anyway, watching Knicks games nowadays can be interesting because of the young guy, but also Frazier’s commentary is so much fun to listen to.

As usual with the NYK..rookies get no burn. Dude didnt just get nice..he was like that when they drafted him…he could have helped them if he was given some burn yearly in the season. Plus he a guard..which the NYK seem to have like 13 of..and will probaly draft another 6 later this year!

I’m about to become a BROOKLYN NETS FAN…its been 34 long suffering years as a NYK fan..!

Like this kid ..I keep waiting on someone else to play D

  • Hussman25

That’s very, very high praise from Walt… Only if the Knicks can find their next Earl “Black Jesus” Monroe… Their back court would be solid for 10 plus years…

Ny-Rock: you said that you have “suffered” for 34 years, but the 90′s must have been an exciting time for a Knicks, fan right? But yeah, the last 10 years it was awful

So Toney Douglas dyes his facial hair?

And If Jordan was born oooh ..10 years later..NYK would have be NOICE…

’twas fun..cause those teams competed..hustled!!..Charles Oakley was the heart and soul of those teams..dude would have punched his momma in the face-piece to get a rebound….I actually liked the Micaheal Ray Richardson/Ray Williams teams (thats how long). I’ll never forgive Starks for going (what??) 2 -for 17 i nthe finals aginst the Rockets..and the f**king coach allowing him to take the last shot against Houston. That should have been our Championship. I’m a fan..Win or lose.

clyde is almost too calm when commentating. super smooth though. toney is looking nice. here’s hoping that stern also rigs the lottery for NY.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign Ny-Rock about Toney Douglas. He was THAT good at the start of the season, D’Antoni was just too high on Duhon to notice. Wow.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

That was the best multiple-posting spree I’ve ver seen, Ny-Rock. Hahaha

    GO NOLES

Ny-Rock, you clearly made your point, hahaha

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

Er… Clyde loves hyperbole. Douglas is a nice player, but uh… I don’t see the defense.

  • loqui

@Jukai..Defence is what that boy do best. He was schooled by Chauncey and Deron the other day, but it’s all good, he’s a fast learner.

  • Ny-Rock

@ Gerald – LMAO. Damn I didnt know I hit enter so many times..OOH the hazards of stealing time at work..F**k em!
@Jukai – open your other eye…dude is nice!

  • chintao

Douglas looks like he has a future. Without major surgery, the Knicks do not. I see TD leaving as a free agent at the first opportunity.
