‘Dirtiest’ Players: Reggie Evans, Ron Artest, …

Reggie and Ron-Ron headline the list (from a poll conducted by SI). Who else would you include on there?: “They just can’t stop talking about the defense of first-year Laker Ron Artest. ‘Ron Artest has ways of getting under your chin — and your skin,’ was the way Indiana Pacers coach Jim O’Brien described the former Pacer named this week in a Sports Illustrated poll of players as second-dirtiest in the league. He’s well behind Toronto’s Reggie Evans, on top with 21 percent of the vote to Artest’s 13. But interestingly, the Lakers have two of the top five with Kobe Bryant earning the fifth spot with 4 percent of the vote.”

  • neaorin

Well done to the polled players to include Kobe.

  • Hangtime Hec

The flailing arms of kobe after a jumpshot has K.Oed countless of defenders.

look at what kobe did to mike bibby in game 7 of the SAC LAL WCF.

Bruce Bowen got outta the league at the right time…

  • anti-crust

Cry,Cry,Cry…you must have had an O when Stern suspended Kobe for “un-natural movement after taking a shot. Dirtiest player, well I’d say LeBron, because if you don’t get out of his fat heavy body, you will be flattened, flagrant, flagrant, flagrant…just as flagrant as Kobes arm after a shot. Intentionally dirty, not really, but sneaky was Reggie Miller and others who kicked out as they shot….could have made contact. Same thing…Manuell, are you a hispanic who stutter-typed or are you english background as Manuell is not a common name. Raja Bell should get a vote for one of the dirtiest all time acts when he tried to strangle then break Kobe’s back by throwing him to the floor with his back arched and feet not on the ground, as he was held up by Raja’s grasp around neck. Come to think of it, Raja would be a nice acquisition for the Lakers, maybe the next Bruce Bowen. (Except Raja went to a real college probably).

  • LA Huey

speaking of Bowen, I saw that dude on ESPN rocking a Pee Wee Herman suit. It was surreal.

  • nyc balla

Bruce Bowen has kneed every member of that list in the groin at least once.

  • anti-crust

lamar odom??? His dirty play is screwing up so much that he’s going to kill his opponent by sending him into a laughing fit. Tell me “letsmotor” what drugs are you on, or did you just keep drinking from last night????? That’s stupid. OK, here’s one, Steve Nash, he has that sly nastiness that Stockton had. OK, another one…Pau Gasol…that’s a joke, but he looks kinda grungy/dirty during a game.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

There was a quote by Reggie Evans that was pretty redonculous. He grabbed Kaman’s balls once and his excuse was that he wanted to see if orcs had spiked balls. LOL

  • Papa Smurf

How is Kevin Garnett not #1?

  • Riggs

why is bruce bowen always trying to sell me bean pies on ESPN

  • letsmotor

yeah, lamar’s not dirty at all.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

After seeing his stable of talent I’m suprised Tiger Woods didn’t get more votes.

  • wassup

    anti-crust… you gotta chill out.

  • Papa Smurf

I can understand why your comments don’t make much sense. I’m sure it’s difficult to type while sucking on a life-sized, blow-up Kobe.

  • Papa Smurf

for those of you who are oblivious, my last comment was directed at anti-crust

  • Elias

Kobe’s the dirtiest, did you see how he hit Iggy in the nuts?

  • Sparty’s Law

Kevin Garnett is about as dirty as they get. And a D-bag.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Oh yea, they left out KG!

    Hamilton, Terry.

First of all, letsmotor, that was a clean tackle by Lamar.
Second of all, this is good news for LeBron, who can now spend the 2010 offseason working on taking Kobe’s top-5-dirtiest ranking away from here. Where the homie Robert at?

  • got beef?

What does KG do that is dirty, if he was dirty dont u think other nba players would vote him? he just trash talks

  • mems

the whole jazz team as well as jason kidd

  • ThatGuy

how is a tackle clean in basketball unless ray allen was acting while lamar was trying to wrap him up

  • JoeMaMa

Remember when dirty was cool? Mr. Oakley, please come back. Stop washing cars and make this league a better place.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Kobe top 5 again, Love it!!!

  • Rob

This league has become too soft. I would like to see these guys playing against Laimbeer or Rick Mahorn so they know what a really dirty player is.

  • Logues

kobe is only dirty when someone blocks his shot or strips the ball from him, then he flails his arms as if he got fouled and intentionally tries hitting ppl, dude is a cry baby. not hating, i love kobe, but its the truth

  • T-Money

    Fisher is sneaky dirty.

  • Twon

Rondo is sneaky Dirty, But lately hes not.

  • http://www.realultimatepower.net doyouwantmore

There’s a difference between playing physical, knock-you-down, go-through-you-if-I-have-to basketball and deliberately trying to cut/break/strike people on the nose with your elbow as part of your shot.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

niQ and Gerard both said exactly what i was about to say. But i had a joke for it. Thanks for ruining what could have been my moment, fu(kers.

  • letsmotor

T-money, I was just gonna mention Fisher.

  • MikeC.

Co-sign the cats that miss the rumble tumble days of the Bad Boys and NYRileyBall. Rondo was on track to get tagged as dirty with his trips, horsecollars, etc from last year’s playoffs, but he seems to have toned it down this year. JKidd isn’t doesn’t make dirty plays intentionally, he’ll just run into you if you’re coaching on the court.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Ron Artest is fantastic defender but he really isn’t that dirty now. Temper problems do NOT mean someone is dirty. His rep is just bad because some stupid Pistons fans threw beer at his face.
    Being tough doesn’t mean you’re dirty either…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Ant Mason, Charles Oak Tree, Mad Max, X Man Daniels, Bad Boy Laimbeer, Worm Rodman, where ya’ll at?!?!?!

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

It’s good that Kobe got recognized as a dirty player. Teddy is right. Don’t mix up being physical with being dirty. GP and Reggie Miller were dirty players, too. But I think Bowen takes the cake.

  • jimmy

i agree with rob the leagues gone soft wheres the enforcers at?throw those elbows…….

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    LMAO @ Jones.
    Except without the @ss part.

  • Jon

because the pistons were so clean (isaih laimbeer wallaces)

  • Ronald

Chris Paul is sneaky dirty. One day I hope people realize. Rondo too, but I agree with the above that he has toned it down recently. I remember watchign a NO v BOS game and both Rondo and CP were going at it like crazy.

  • therighttoremainsalient

What about Big Bad Bab Glen Davis, that old lengend of where the firebreather knocked that disabled blind child/Magic fan over?

  • therighttoremainsalient

Other dbirty players because they have little to no sense of space and timing: Chris Birdman Anderson, Anderson Verajao, Drew Gooden.

  • http://Www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh Ronald, i’ve realized (and stated here often) that CP3 is very nasty. But with him, it’s more a helping of simmering anger mixed in with a pinch of “overcompensating little man syndrome” mixed in. He undercuts, bumps and generally does anything to aggravate. But peeople see that babyface and go “awwww”. Dude is merciless, a modern day Isiah on the court.

  • andre anglais

@darksaber, I love the Chris Paul Isiah comparison.
And did anti-crust really compare Nash’s D to Stockton’s? That there is my vote for dumbest observation ever made on SLAM

  • Big Arnie

Reggie Evans is getting a bum rap on this thing. Obviously this all started when he came in contact with Chris Cayman’s gonads but anyone who knows Reggie could figure that one out. Use your head! He was hoping to reach through Cayman’s legs and dislodge the ball. (The ball that had Spalding written on it!)He played here at Iowa and was agressive but certainly not dirty. Same with Artest. No one works harder than Evans and this unbeatable work ethic is mistaken for dirty play. Don’t try to get in his way when he is after a rebound but that doesn’t make him dirty.
