Gilbert Arenas Describes the Gun Incident

The artist formerly known as Agent Zero sat down with Esquire, and opened up about the fateful night his life and career changed forever.

During the interview, Gil is once again the candid, funny and open character we had grown accustomed to over the years. And his description of the events is as absurd as one might expect.

If you haven’t already, you really should read the whole thing — it’s fascinating — but here’s a taste:

I put my four guns in my backpack so nobody could see them. I wrote the note: “Pick one.” Put the guns on a chair where Javaris would find them. I go in the training room where he was. I can see him — “What’s this? What’s this?”

“You said you were gonna shoot me in my knee. I’m giving you the guns to do it.”

“I don’t need you to give me nothing. I’ve got my own gun.” He pulls one out and puts the clip in. That’s when some of the other players are saying, Man, I gotta get out of here. But then he puts his earphones in and starts singing. So I pick my guns up. From there, everything settled down. He goes into the Jacuzzi. You know what? I gotta warm my knee up anyway. I go in and sit with him. We’re just sitting in there talking. We didn’t have no problem. It was just some fun that got out of control.

Simply amazing. SNL needs to re-create that Jacuzzi scene immediately.

There’s no telling where Gilbert’s life and career will end up, but I’m glad to see that he hasn’t lost his knack for storytelling.

Whether or not that will actually count for anything going forward, remains to be seen.

    Glad to see Gil is taking the whole incident seriously. Then again, when you blow over $60M over a stupid act, I guess its best to just laugh it off to maintain sanity.

    Get off his sack! Nobody was injured. We’ve got more important things to worry about in this country than whether a pampered athelete realizes how serious playing around with guns is. He lost his money what more do you want, his first born?

    he should talk about it, to let people see that he’s sorry. that’s how pr works. i’m not sure how much he has accomplished that, but it’s hard to judge someone’s thoughts and feelings. for all we know, this is just how he deals with it.

    Provided Gil doesn’t do any jail time over this, the enforced year off is probably good for him since Gil doesn’t seem capable of taking time off to recover from all those knee surgeries. Being suspended for most of the season will allow his knee to get to as close to 100% as it can be. Sucks for the Wiz that their team got blown up, but it wasn’t going anywhere anyway. Could have been worse. Could have been a team going nowhere, capped out, and paying Gil all that money to keep having knee surgeries. Sounds kinda like NY pre-Walsh with Allan Houston playing the Gil role, but no good character guys to root for.

    WTF is Gil doing talking to reporters and giving interviews! Damn clown, sit your a** down somewhere and let law run it’s course. If anyone of ya’ll have been in trouble with the law you know you get a lawyer, give your statement, and shut the f*** up after that.
