Stephen Jackson: Judge Me By My Game

Cap’n Jack tells the Indy Star that he wants still-bitter fans in Indiana to look at his body of work on the court, not off of it, or in the stands: “The Charlotte Bobcats guard isn’t making excuses for his actions. What he wishes, though, is that Pacers fans would have focused on his basketball skills. Say whatever you want about Jackson, but know this: He wins. ‘I think people are not looking at the fact that I’m human and I make mistakes,’ Jackson said after the Bobcats’ practice Monday. ‘I made two mistakes, but I haven’t been in any trouble since. They need to realize I can play this game and I’ve been effective ever since I’ve been in this league. I help teams win and people should let the negative stuff go and look at the positive things.”‘

True good player lots of heart lots of skill

  • Sparty’s Law

Some negative things were far too entertaining to let go entirely.

That’s like a woman telling you that she can cook, clean and care for your babies, so you should just ignore the fact that she looks like a mud duck.
Come on now, Stack Jack. You should realize that you can’t be getting suspended and firing off guns and expect folks to have warm and fuzzy feelings about you. Besides, the Pacers only made it to the ECF that one year, besides that, they didn’t do much despite all that talent.

I agree with him, there is a point in time you gotta move past an incident and pay attention to a more recent body of work. I’m not sure how far back is fair to judge somebody, maybe it’s like credit where a 7 year history is fair but the last two years counts as 50%.

Stephen Jackson is an NBA Champion with the Spurs. His Oakland Globetrotters also pulled off the biggest NBA playoff upset of the decade. Jax’s body of work as a whole is pretty impressive.

also Mo, let’s not forget that his Bobcats are now in 6th place in the East. I wouldn’t have thought that back in October. When Jax came, they just got better from the get go

It’s not judging to simply acknowledge things that people have done which reflect their character. Translated, S-Jax is saying something like this: “I’m really good at basketball and because of that everyone should pretend that I didn’t punch fans and shoot guns off in public. Notice what I do well and ignore everything else, because I want you to.”

S-Jax shoulda been an all star at least once in his career. But he’s not the standard fan or coach selection.

Stephen shouldn’t give a ^%$# what Indy fans think about him. He plays for the Bobcats.. he should start worrying if Charlotte fans start hatin on him.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Charlotte fans SHOULD like him, though…

S-Jax needs to realize how American pop culture works and accept his place in it. No matter how much he complains, or plays well, he will be what they portay him to be in the media!

  • therighttoremainsalient

Jax wants Pacer fans to not boo him?…He does know he isn’t PLAYING for them right?? I mean, you always boo the other team..
