Tracy McGrady: ‘I Know I’m Not Healthy’

The NY Post has T-Mac’s discouraging (but wholly unsurprising) quotes about the status of his health: “Tracy McGrady has waved the red flag. He has come to the realization his left-knee pain probably won’t ease this season and that fans won’t get to see the old T-Mac until next season. But McGrady said he believes if he stays healthy enough to play and help the team in small ways, such as a playmaker and rebounder, then he will get a contact somewhere next season. But as far as the acrobatic artist and dominant go-to guy, forget about it. ‘I know I’m not healthy,’ McGrady said at FedEx Forum after a four-point outing vs. Memphis Friday. ‘I’m not healthy to go out there and be as effective as I wanted to be every night. It’s not happening and I have to have patience with it. I’m not going to allow myself to get discouraged and not believe it’s going to get better when I truly believe it is.’ If McGrady’s audition doesn’t get better, Knicks team president Donnie Walsh has to decide whether he is worth the gamble and evaluate whether he will have new legs next season.”

    Ahh…get well soon Mac.
You know we all miss the 13 points in 45 seconds and the crazy-eyes…

If he knew he wasn’t healthy they why rush back? Sounds counterproductive…

Thanks for your services, T-Mac. Please have your locker cleared out by the end of April as we will be hiring some people who can actually play basketball.

Seriously, we haven’t seen “the old T-Mac” since 2003.

  • AL29

And it turns out Rick Adelman was right all along about McGrady’s ability to play this year.

    T-Mac = injury prone + overpaid + attitude problem

how tmac passed the physicals when they traded him…?

  • Fat Lever

Didnt T-Mac say, after the Rockets told him to go home, that he was healthy and he’s waiting for the opportunity to prove that, or something to that effect? I suspect a fall off similar to Jermaine O’Neal for T-Mac.

    Tmac = penny hardaway

  • cramzy

so why all the crying in Houston when they wanted to ease him back?

It will be interesting to see where he ends up next season and what kind of contract he receives. Playing limited minutes as a back-up on a contender may be good for him. At this point nobody is going to trust he’s healthy enough to go everyday so a ‘minimal’ contract rich with incentives may be the best he can do.

…”will get a contact somewhere next season”. Really? Contact? That’s the only thing he doesn’t want! Contact!

Yeah, props to Adelman for not giving in to his crybaby act. If T-Mac wants a role off the bench for a good team, you might want to give the Lakers/Suns/Spurs/Celtics a call.

Seriously, he’s proven he can still play at a high level. He’ll be fine next season. Obviously not 25+ ppg fine but 15-20 ppg fine. Against the Mavericks on Saturday he scored 11 points in the third quarter like it was nothing… People seem to only remember his athleticism, but offensively he was the most fundamentally sound and polished player in the league for a while.

‘He knows he’s not healthy’…wow.Reminds of the time this dude I know told me he lets chicks know in advance ‘that he ain’t shit’.Surprisingly,he somehow manages to have a steady supply of them. And my point being that somehow,T mac will somehow manage to get a decent contract in spite of his um,idiosyncrasies…

  • jay

he’ll be fine next season, since he’s gonna turn a year younger.

  • magicmic

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. I mean, he got paid for being injured most of his career, how bad can that be?

  • mack daddy

    t-mac = WASHED UP.

What? Tmac, you’re not healthy?! You don’t say.

T-Mac is the most unconfident and discouraged player of all time.
