Tyler Hansbrough’s ‘Miserable’ Rookie Year

Things have not gone according to plan for Tyler this season, as he explains to the Indy Star: “Indiana Pacers rookie forward Tyler Hansbrough is miserable. He never thought his first NBA season would be spent in street clothes, shuffling in and out of doctors’ offices trying to figure out what’s wrong. But that’s what Hansbrough has dealt with this season. His latest problem — an inner ear infection and/or possible concussion — has kept him sidelined for most of the past two-plus months. The Pacers aren’t expecting him to return this season. ‘It really is miserable for me to be dealing with this injury,’ Hansbrough said recently. ‘I’ve never had an injury like this where it’s kept me out a long time. It’s something I’m trying to get over and get healthy.’ Hansbrough’s current diagnosis remains a mystery. The team has been calling it an inner ear infection since late December. Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said two weeks ago that it possibly could be a concussion, caused when Hansbrough took a hit in a game in Boston in late December.”

You sure you didn’t mean Ben Hansbrough?

  • ab_40 Posted: Mar.19 at 5:06 pm
replace miserable rookie season with sucks and you get a thumbs up from me

  • YKnot Posted: Mar.19 at 6:25 pm
@Nygaard Well he did drop 17 twice in the Big East Tourney. Old Dominion killed them though. Besides we’re talking about his games now and Tyler’s still in street clothes.

I was watching North Carolina lose a while ago, and i realized that i haven’t heard anything about Tyler Hansbrough. Now i know why.

I remember watching many UNC games and looking at Tyler Hansborough and thinking to myself, one team will be really lucky to have him. Hard nosed, rebounds, got some post moves somewhat athletic. Then a week later I watched Pardon the Interruption and they we’re saying he’s a second round pick because his body frame won’t work in the NBA. Why is it that he was so great in college and miserable in the NBA because of his height and weight? 6′9 250 seems like a typical PF to me

Well Sham, it’s b/c in the NBA, refs won’t let him go to the freethrow line when players breathe on him.

Hey hey… PYSCHO T will be back chewing up rebounds next season! double double for 10-11!

He’s a banger and a project but he will not be out worked by anyone. Quality kid and I wish him the best. In a conference where smooth ballers pour points on teams like syrup his SEC football game was unstoppable. He’s got a place in the nba as a 2nd team guy but if he never plays again I thank him for his 4years of work @ unc. I didn’t appreciate eric montross until he was gone but I knew t hans was going to be an irreplacable loss. God bless #50

My impression of TH was that he’d be a quality hustle guy off the bench. Defense, rebounds a block or 2 and putbacks. He doesn’t have enough on offense to be a starter (esp on the Pacers who need options). Rookie year bumps. He’ll bounce back next season.

Maybe there’s a curse on top Big man picks being injured. Oh wait…it’s just Greg Oden. Get well soon TH, give the Pacers, at least, some hope.

  • Dre Posted: Mar.20 at 8:22 pm
Damn, all the people saying he sucks, it’s like they are too damn dumb to read that he was injured. If you look at his numbers in games that he played they are pretty good. Obviously fans not true ball players who know the game up here.

There is no way that anyone can truly evaluate TH this year, given all that he has gone through. I understand why people want to jump at the chance to call him a bust (because of all the college attention he received…and deserved), but PLEASE give the guy a chance to play. Rookie seasons in the League are difficult, even when you are completely healthy! Some guys make it look easy (Evans, Curry), but for most players, their first year is up and down. Good luck to Tyler in year #2.

Tyler will bounce back. Tough break in his first year but he’ll work hard to carve out a career in the L.

  • randy Posted: Mar.22 at 3:20 pm
    Shoulda stayed in North Care-lina..

  • Jim Posted: Mar.23 at 7:08 pm
Well Sham, it’s b/c in the NBA, refs won’t let him go to the freethrow line when players breathe on him. Dude you have nailed it. I think Hansblow is going to be average nba player at BEST. The same people that think he is gonna do great in the nba are the same people who thought that fat tub of lard Sean May would be this great nba player. Sean May is barely hanging on in the nba right now.

Here’s a couple stats from several first year players based on their first year averages for how ever many games they played that first year. One set of stats belong to Tyler Hansborough. The other sets of stats come from players who have played in an All Star Game. PPG 8.5 RPG 4.80 APG 1.0 PPG 5.1 RPG 4.4 APG 0.6 PPG 8.6 RPG 5.5 APG 1.4 PPG 2.8 RPG 1.7 APG0.1 Any of you who think Tyler Hansborough simply sucks quite obviously no nothing about playing the game and far to much about simply WATCHING the game. Find a guy whose matched up againt TH for a full game who says he sucks. You won’t find a single guy, ever. And of course he’s going to be an average player at best. Most players are, that’s what average means. If you think every guy picked in the lottery is anything better than average you really haven’t been paying attention. Tyler
    David Lee
    Josh Howard
    Zach Randolph
