Andre Miller Hopes Suns Will Be Tight in Gm. 2

‘Dre and his Blazers teammates delivered the opening punch in Phoenix last night, and hope the Suns will be feeling the psychological toll come next game. The Portland Tribune reports: ” Camby calls Miller “our quiet assassin.” He is a man of few words, for sure – bashful, reluctant to make eye contact…When I asked Miller if it were his best career playoff game – he tied his scoring high with Denver against San Antonio in 2005 – he shook his head. ‘I don’t think so,’ he said. ‘I’ve had some better games.’ Miller has an analytical mind when it comes to basketball. He is the proverbial coach on the floor. To wit: ‘We talked about forcing the issue a little bit tonight, not settling for jump shots. If we settle for jump shots, that allows (the Suns) to get out in transition. They only had four fast-break points all night … we were active with our hands defensively. You didn’t see a lot of dunks by Stoudemire off the pick-and-roll – none, I don’t think. We worked on our help defense, moving guys around and making them shoot contested threes.’ And I loved this: ‘Big to win the first game. Hopefully (the Suns) will be tight the next game.’ The Blazers certainly shouldn’t be tight for Tuesday’s Game 2. They’ve stolen homecourt advantage from the Suns. All the Blazers have to do now is hold serve at home, winning three games at the Rose Garden, to advance to the second round.”

my favorite thing about ‘Dre is his post-game interviews…no eye contact, glancing around the stands like he wishes he could be anywhere else but there…but man, can that cat ball.

Camby’s (missed) dunk attempt was pretty funny. Dre is ice cold, after all he was a good pick up. Gotta’ admit though, I still don’t think the Blazers make it to the second round.

@underdog: you might be right, man. One thing definitely in the Blazers favor, though, is that they have played playoff-pace basketball all year. Phoenix is so used to running and gunning that they have to prove they can adapt to the playoff grind. Nash and Amare are deadly, so you cannot discount them obviously, but this is the time of the year that Blazer fans should appreciate Nate’s absolute insistence on grinding, half-court basketball.

    I always hope she’s tight

Who would have thought at the beginning of the season, that by playoff time, Portlands 3 most important players would be Andre Miller, Marcus Camby and Juwan Howard!!!!!! ahahaha

does this mean ‘dre miller is now the best off-season signing from last year..cause i would say so

  • Nawlins Realest.

haha i thought i was the only one that noticed dre and the non-eye contact.

the non-eye contact is not that funny. He’s an adult, dealt with the media for years, at least know how to handle yourself.

Trading Steve Blake away and getting Andre Miller saved Portlands season. As well as getting Camby. Portland is still dangerous.

a danger too who ? like beating the suns will just slow thier demise down either way fishing !

Nash is not blamed, isn’t he a two time MVP, some consider one of the greatest point guards ever and he let a scrub portland team beat his domiant team. This is why I never liked Nash to OVVERRATED, Dre is better than him, getting assits are easy. Winning Nash will never be able to do. Because lets be honest the Suns team is a good team. Maybe a new point guard would do the trick.

These guys are tough. It’s scary to think what they might do healthy.

  • fut.

I want whatever the Seed is having.

  • ripslam

The Seed: Ooh, yeah, get rid of the heart and soul of the team for the past decade. Sounds like a plan! If all else fails Stevie is one of the coolest guys in the league.

When you think about it, and this is coming from a Suns fan. The ONLY fact that the Suns were seeded third and the Blazers 6th coming into this series is because of the depleted roster – Blazers would have vied for the 2nd seed if everyone was healthy this season…. TEAM DEPTH: Take away the TWO CENTRES on their roster and ALL WORLD SG and then remove Robin Lopez from the Suns and it’s as tight a match up as one could expect….
