Baron Davis Not ‘Allowed’ to Lead the Clippers?

B-Diddy complains to the LA Times that his leadership skills aren’t being properly utilized by the Clip Show: “Davis said before Wednesday’s 93-85 loss to Portland, the Clippers’ sixth straight, that he once might have handled differences about his place in the organization and former general manager-coach Mike Dunleavy much differently. ‘The younger Baron definitely would have said something,’ he said. ‘Yeah. I probably would have asked for a way out, looked for the easiest way out.’ This was said without rancor, and Davis was largely smiling and upbeat about the future. This came minutes before former Clippers’ Marcus Camby’s return with Portland. Camby had two points and nine rebounds before leaving the game as a precaution for his strained right hamstring. As for Davis, he had been giving a state of the union address. So, what now, for Davis and the lottery-bound 27-51 Clippers? ‘I just don’t want this to be like a second-chance place,” Davis said. “…I want this to be a place where people want to come and play. If I’m allowed to lead this franchise and this organization the way I see fit, hopefully we’ll make a run.’ But he didn’t sound convinced he’d have a chance to lead, several times saying, ‘If I’m allowed to.’ ‘Last year was kind of Dunleavy’s thing,’ he said. ‘This year was [ Chris] Kaman’s team, so hope that next year they’ll give me a chance to put my full thing on display.”‘

Why would you want a career 40% FG and 30% 3PT player being the guy who puts his full thing on display?

Baron. You’re done. You’ve entered the Barkley retirement zone….when you stand around the three point line and jack your notoriously poor shot selection and are not making us forget that by unbelievable game inside the line…you’re useless on the floor.

Once great players have a DNA that doesn’t allow them to see this reality…that is why the world made coaches.

    Haha @BP

I have no idea what Baron is talking about. Although… the Clips could go super uptempo next year if Blake Griffin gets healthy and they get rid of Kaman. Gordon could be a lot better if he got to play in the open court instead of just standing around the 3 point line waiting for Kaman to dribble of his own foot. And DeAndre Jordan isn’t a star or anything but he is huge and can run and finish. Still… Baron hasn’t shown me anything to make me think him putting his full thing on display since before he quit on Golden State.

Why in the world would the Clippers get rid of Chris Kaman for Blake Griffin? Why?

Baron and leadership have not been seen together in years. And who has to have someone “let” them be a leader?! Dude, just cash those checks and stop acting as if you care and we’ll stop commenting on your dumb statements.

At the end of the day, The clippers still fail …

Let’s just merge the Lakers and Clippers altogether – screw having 2 L.A. Based team – give one to… I dunno, Maxico or something, lol, then we can have a line up that look like this:

    C – DeAndre Jordan
    F – Pau Gasol
    F – Blake Griffin
    G – Kobe Bryant
    G – Baron Davis

    C – Andrew Bynum
    F – Lamar Odom
    F – Travis Outlaw
    G – Eric Gordon
    G – Jordan Farmar

    * keep Rasual Butler if one G go down
    * Keep D-Fish as a locker room guy
    * Keep Chris Kaman as a Mascot

    Ahhh … 10 championships coming on the way… :)

I met Baron Davis in Barcelona. His gf is ugly.

    ^lol @ Jon.
Teddy – they’d trade Kaman for an athletic big like David Lee, Biedrins, maybe even Thabeet(plus someone). They could grab OJ Mayo or Rudy Gay, depending on who the Grizz want.
Baron, Gordon, Gay, .. Jordan? , Lee
With Thornton/Butler on the bench, something like that.
    OR, Baron/Butler/Gay/Thornton/Lee
OR, they could just grab a guy like Iggy to play the 2/3 spots if Memphis wants Gay.
BUT, we are talking about the Clippers here so..

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    Baron, Gordon, Butler, Griffin, Lee.
    That’d be a perfect up-tempo team.
Knicks would have to be stupid enough to trade David Lee in a sign-and-trade though. (Stupid because D’Antoni is uptempo… Kaman.. is not).

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Wait. Hursty which Thornton??? Have you been watching the NBA lately?? Don’t even comment anymore.

  • Ben Flook

The few Clippers games ive watched this year Barons been their best player, when watching the Clips i still cant see how Kamans an all star. Actually i can, hes a solid center in a league that doesnt have many.

  • chintao

Baron will be the leader of the Clips over Donald Sterling’s dead body (I hope).
