Doc Rivers: ‘Either You’re on the Bandwagon or You’re Off’

The Celtics’ head coach draws a line in the sand when it comes to the team’s fandom (and media coverage), as Boston stumbles towards the postseason. From the Herald: “You’re either in or out, according to Doc Rivers. The Celtics coach, while reasserting faith in his team following last night’s 109-104 loss to Oklahoma City – the C’s second straight – put a clear boundary on the team bandwagon. ‘You don’t have to be (optimistic) because I am,’ he said. ‘I look at our team, and we played one bad night. We were playing great up until two games ago. Were you optimists three games ago? ‘Either you’re on the bandwagon or you’re off,’ Rivers continued. ‘I tell guys that all the time. That’s the way I think, and that’s how our team should think. I’m not going to spend time trying to convince you to dislike us or like us. Our team just has to keep working. ‘Should I worry about a team where you guys don’t think we can win anymore?”’

as most people thought at the beginning of this season, especially once sheed was added, this will go down as the most hated team ever in the NBA. it’s definitely KG’s year for the willis reed action. what were the chances that they were going to bring in a BIGGER sh*t talker than eddie? i would like the C’s to win because i’m here in BOS, but i think i’d mostly like the C’s to win now because the level of hate would be unlike anything we’ve ever seen. i think it would divide the country more than the health care debate. bottom line: there is going to be an unbelievable amount of sh*t talking from the C’s over the next couple weeks. if they do it while flaming out, they will be hated for being vulgar and disrespectful fakes. if they talk while knocking your team out of the playoffs …

There’s something about this celtic team that is just hard to like. They come as as feeling entitled to me.

Yeah, after Ginobli made KG his biatch, I doubt the Celtics will go far in the playoffs. Ginobli is 6’6, and freaking destroyed KG. That will be played for years. I love it.

well when you win a championship, it comes off like that…

STAT has had a lot of b*tch-making plays recently. i don’t think manu’s quite qualifies. you can’t make someone your b*tch when someone else is helping you pull the other person down (g. hill). don’t think the C’s are going to be an easy team to beat in a 7 game series. there’s a lot of talent and a lot of strong wills on that team. also a an all-star PG who’s carrying the big 3 now, instead of the other way around. plus he’ll bloody your lip or pull you down into the scorer’s table. oh, the hate is going to be out of control. it will be MIL/BOS and it’s going to get physical with ‘drew/perk and the jennings/rondo matchup should be insane. can’t wait.

Rondo is the real star in Bean Town. KG still thinks he’s the man, but his time is done.

Boston knew that the fall from grace was going to be quick when they brought in 2 stars on the tail end of their primes. This is nothing new, Doc’s just trying to motivate his team. At what point does age nullify motivational tactics? Just once, I’d love to see someone like Zaza just knock the ish outta KG or Perkins.

  • Jukai Posted: Apr.1 at 10:08 pm
Yeah, I’m with Lever on this one. Wasn’t this the plan? Win two championships then fade into oblivion?

I’ve never been on the bandwagon anyway. No one fears these old ass grampas anymore.

MAIMI 2006= Ce- Who am I kidding? Been saying it for a while now. This is what happens when you trade it all for one year.

Post at 11:53 was NOT me. Kind of amusing though, somethings facked up at SLAM.

Saying the post-championship C’s are the equivalent of the post-championship Heat is funny. I really don’t remember that Heat team being this good.

  • Hangtime Hec Posted: Apr.2 at 11:50 am
Just the rise and fall. Obviously not THIS good. I expect a similar beating in the playoffs that the heat did then losing all there role players to free agency and suffering catastrophic injures to their players.

Toooo many egos. And lot’s of them of the unchecked kind.

We all see the condition that afflicts the Celtics, Kevin Garnett, in particular. Garnett does disrespect the purity of the game with his on court antics, post game comments, etc. But, how many players do we see in his condition, with his SALARY, with nothing really left to prove…he still brings it. Every night. On one leg. All timer.
