Early Entry Candidates for 2010 NBA Draft

Simple math. Sixty players will be selected in the 2010 NBA Draft. Thirty players will receive guaranteed contracts. One-hundred and three early entry players officially declared their names for the Draft. Add a number of Draft-worthy seniors to the mix, and the odds are slim for most guys. Logic, therefore, says at least 60 of these candidates should notify the NBA of their decision to return to college no later than May 8 (or June 14 for international players).

But math, of course, is entirely logical, emotionless. People, on the other hand, are not…

  • henry

    wtf is a John Sloan?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Gordon Hayward…..BAD decision. Butler was looking great for next year.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Tzvi Twersky

Two points: A kid born in 1991 is entering the Draft? WTF. I feel ancient right about now. And, if your name is Ravern, you shouldn’t be on this list. Thanks for the post, Ryne.

mr. shashkov cannot come to america and expect to be taken seriously. i know nothing about his game or his personality/character, but i don’t think he could survive the ridicule.

  • Chad

Looked up the John Sloan kid. Pre-Pharmacy/Biochemistry major at his school and also played ball. I guess a team wouldn’t have to worry about character issues by taking him.

  • Coach Lee

Listen up out there here’s a question for ALL hoop heads, within the last five years of the NBA draft who do you think should have went to college or stayed there ASS in school? Will call this one the top 25 NBA draft duds. I’ll start with number one 1.Sebastain Telfier, yes he’s quick but what else can he do?

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

The last player on the list is named Semen.

  • ai come back

    these ppl are hilarious……

  • kriz

tracy smith from ncsu (not north carolina as posted) is not even going to the nba draft. based on that i bet a lot of these guys arent planning on staying in. smith never declared in the 1st place

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

    wtf…?
    WHY THE FACE?

  • kriz

nvm my B. smith declared today apparently lol. way to keep up to date slam! but he is still returning. just getting info and advice

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

Most of the college guys just entered their names so they can test the waters and see if they would get drafted. Most aren’t going to keep their names in because they want to stay in college. It’s just a draft evaluation, calm down.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

Moose, how is it a BAD decision?? Unless you’re a Butler fan of course.

Can’t wait to see Monroe in the League.

Go back to school Willie Warren. You too Eric Bledsoe (to a lesser degree).

All those international birth dates: rough estimates.

  • MikeC.

Ever type out an awesome post, thinking to yourself “this is so awesome, and lots of people are going to enjoy talking about it because of how awesome it is”, and then your post just disappears? Frig!

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

MikeC: if you write something long (or awesome) copy it before postimg – if it disappears? Paste it and post again.

  • MikeC.

@Michael NZ – I typed it all out again, and it disappeared again. This time, I followed your advice. The Interwebs will not eat this post because it is too awesome to not share. This post will see the light of Interweb-day.

@ Coach Lee: Good question. From what I’ve seen, Telfair also has good court vision to go along with his quickness. I’m really not too sure why he hasn’t been able to be more effective in the league. A few years of college definitely would have helped mould him into a better NBA-level point guard. He has steadily been improving every year though… Maybe he’ll find a niche on a team some day.

  • Jer Boi

hope Lance stays in Cincinnati for his own good.

  • DrJ

Last on the list dude’s name should be Semion, but that’s how they write it in Russian – Semen. Still, funny as hell:D By the way, who do you all consider top international prospect for this year?

  • Coach Lee

@jer Boi I thought I was the only one who feels that way no way is he even ready for the league I would give him 2 more years. he has the size but not yet the skill level.

  • Hussman25

This list is sad… as a whole. There are some players, but overall the list is suspect

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

    Top international prospect: Donatas Motiejunas

  • mattyp32

Please go to the Huntington player bio’s and look at Chris Huckle

  • MikeC.

@Coach Lee – I like where you’re going with your idea, but I suggest we expand it a bit and go as far back as the modern era of preps to pros(KG in 95-Stern’s age limit). I submit my top 5, with my reasons: 1) Kobe – nothing to do with talent, but a couple years in college might have taught him how to not be a huge doucher, and with his commitment to Duke, he would have learned how to rape as a team, and not rape as an individual. 2) Korleone Young – who? Exactly. Dude killed his career by ditching a team meeting during the playoffs so he could go bang groupies. Shoulda gone to college and got all his banging out of his system so he could focus on ball, then bang groupies in the off-season. 3) Kwame Brown – he might have picked up an offensive move, any offensive move in college. He might have learned to rotate on D without fouling. He might not have been subjected to the teammate-of-MJ experience, which destroyed much tougher men than him. 4) Shaun Livingston – no jokes here. He just needed a couple years of playing shorter seasons and hitting the weights to get his body ready for the grind of the L. 5) Dajuan Wagner – either the college diet of chicken wings and beer ruined his poop-factory, or his body was so used to the college diet that a proper pro diet caused his doodoo-maker to revolt and explode. Either way, the NBA was not for him. Anybody know what Juanny Wags is up to nowadays?

The D-League is gonna be bursting at the seams next year! smh

  • http://www.facebook.com Attack13

The Mid Major kids shouldn’t go, nobody knows who they are. Orton form UK shouldn’t either. Dmitri McCamey made a bad decision…… Illinois will be very good next year.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Attack…. I’m not sure Illinois will be good without Davis and McCamey.
