Elton Brand Lays Goose Egg

According to the box score, Elton Brand grabbed zero boards on Saturday night. According to SI, that’s a career first for the 6er big. 713 games into a career, that’s not a first Brand was looking for. Since the 76ers signed Brand to a enormous contract two summers ago, EB’s been hurt and ineffective for much of the time. (Note: The blurb also says that it happened against the Wizards; in fact it happened versus the Raptors. So take it with a grain of salt.)

Good thing I dropped him in Fantasy.

What the hell happened to Brand? Does anyone want to explain this to me? Was he never that good in the first place, did he just have a break out season? Did the Clippers run that much of a different offense?

    Yet another Duke BUM!

Brand was a 20 and 10 guy for the first 6-7 years of his career. In 2006-2007 he was in the top 4in the MVP votings. It was injuries that screwed the man over.

Brand’s preformance in Philly is only half his fault. I would put more blame on the way coaches are using him. He can still play, but the Philly offense doesnt utlize him. He needs to find a new team.

When all else fails, go to BOS or SA. Hopefully SA

zabba – you mean the 05/6 season, when the Clippers made the 2nd round after 50+ wins and eventually got knocked out by the Suns.

This doesn’t really have anything to do with rebounds, but look st the guys Brand has to work with offensively.
Last year he had Andre Miller throwing him the ball, so there’s not really an excuse for not getting shots up, despite being in a new team, new system.

THIS year, he’s got a shoot-first (mostly dribble penetration) SG/PG hybrid in Lou Williams “passing” him the ball.
He’s also got Iggy, who is NOT a play-maker, regardless of his assists totals. He’s not a point-forward, he’s just not. Pippen could pass the rock, T-mac can play that position, but Iggy isn’t.
Remember to make the distinction between finding the open man, and “making plays” – big difference.

If a big man can’t get the ball offensively, he’s less inclined to play D, which means he’s not going to scrap for those rebounds on 50/50 opportunities. Not unless he’s David Lee or Ronny Turiaf anyways.

Then there’s injury etc to factor in as well.

what happened to him, is called “the Basketball Gods”

What he did to Baron Davis, telling him to come to LA Clips with him through the front door, meanwhile Elton, already had a foot and mind leaving through the back door.

Hopefully it’s not too late for him. It’s hard to imagine he’ll ever be a 20-10 force again.

Sunday was Rudy Fernandez’s birthday… Any chance the nickname “the easter bunny” catching on? Didnt think so.

  • vanillagorrila

Another aging player who is trying to play the same way he used to instead of adapting to his limitations after injuries and the wear and tear of time. It also doesn’t help that he has never been a very focused and passionate guy so reinventing himself is probably not something elton is keen on attempting

yah not too many people showing him any pity after he played the clippers like that. especially since he didn’t even get more money, and went to a team that didn’t even fit him. smart!
