Gerald Wallace: Bobcats Not Intimidated by Dwight Howard

Despite having their stuff sent back nine times by Dwight in the series opener, Crash says the ‘Cats are going to keep attacking the hoop regardless: “He’s a shot blocker. We’re a team that attacks the rim. you put those two together, somebody has to win. Obviously he did a great job with nine blocks but I don’t think that stopped us from attacking the basket. His nine blocks didn’t affect the way we attacked the rim or the way we got to the basket. I think our main thing is we gotta keep doing it. He had nine blocks, but he had 5, 6 fouls too, right? So we can’t back away from attacking the basket. We gotta keep going.’ Is it important to get him frustrated and in foul trouble? ‘I don’t see no importance. We didn’t win. The main thing is to let him know we’re not intimidated by him standing up under the rim.’ Do all his blocks ever make you guys think twice about attacking and start taking jump shots instead? ‘No, wrong team. We’re not going to do that. We’re going to keep going at him and we’re going to attack him. If he ends up with 20 blocks, he ends up with 20 blocks. He’s going to have to work for his 20 blocks. We don’t have anybody on this team that’s afraid to attack the basket and go at him. We’re not going to just let him think he’s the bully he’s the factor up under the basket, because he’s not. We play above the rim just like he does. Somebody has to win.”’

    Gerald Wallace, GROWN MAN.

    Gotta love that mindset.

    “If he ends up with 20 blocks, he ends up with 20 blocks. He’s going to have to work for his 20 blocks. We don’t have anybody on this team that’s afraid to attack the basket and go at him.”

    Good. Gerald Wallace is the first person to be right when it comes to Howard. Attack him constantly. So what he he blocks a shot, chances are that block will end up back in the hands of the ‘Cats anyway. He is a vulnerable defender and doesn’t have the ability to avoid fouling. I hope Wallace makes up for his lackluster dunk contest performance with a posterization of Howard.

    Not sure how he doesn’t remember if Dwight fouled out or not but great mindset.

    He can talk all he wants, he’s just trying to give his teammates false hope. Magic all the way

    20 Blocks would be quite the stat line. Imagine 20points, 20 rebounds, 20 blocks. Damn.

    I never knew you could be intimidated by a giant pu$$sy, except for Kirstie Ally.

    @LA- He probably got concussed and forgot.
    @niQ – Wilt probably did it before they counted blocks. And got 20 assists, played 20 more minutes and got the phone numbers of 20 ladies while warming up.

    ^Damn, he really was the best.

    I’ve never understood why more players don’t have this mentality. So what if Howard blocks 10 of your shots? The refs are going to call fouls and he’s going to get in foul trouble. It’s inevitable the way they call the game. Just keep going at him. This goes for LeBron, too — guys should just keep driving straight into his chest.

    I think you guys play too many video games. It’s a lot easier to run into a brick wall and get up on your PS3 than when you do it in the real world.

    Howard had 5 fouls last game, and he commited 3 after that (including slapping Wallace in the face after Gerald grabbed a rebound over him). If we keep attacking, we can take him out of the game and with him goes the “Dwight Howard Effect”. If the Magic lose that and Mikeal Pietrus doesnt play like basketball jesus then we can win this series.

    I’m not intimidated by Dwight Howard either. I bet I can play ball for the rest of my life and not have a single shot blocked by Dwight Howard.

    @flippity – I don’t think you’ve watched Gerald Wallace play much…

  • flippity

    @Dave- I like Gerald Wallace and I think it’s a good strategy to attack the rim and try to get the foul. I’m just saying it’s not as easy as just saying attack the rim. You can only hit a brick wall enough times before you start saying, “maybe I shouldn’t run into this wall.” You can hit the wall as much as you want on your PS3.
