Is J.R. Smith Right About Denver Being Selfish?

J.R.’s venting on Twitter following the Nuggets’ Game 4 loss in Utah led to a mini-referendum on the team’s ability (and willingness) to share the ball. The Denver Post reports from practice: “The Nuggets had just 13 assists in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series against the Jazz. But Smith, perhaps more than any other Denver player, is known for jacking up bad shots. Smith did not make himself available to the media Monday at the Pepsi Center. Asked about Smith’s tweet, Nuggets interim coach Adrian Dantley appeared uncomfortable. ‘What do you want me to say? That he shouldn’t have made that comment? I don’t know. He shouldn’t have made that comment,’ Dantley said. Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups was asked about the tweet and said: ‘It’s frustrating to lose, and people can say what they want, but at any rate, when we win, we win together. I don’t think we’ve been specifically selfish.’ After the backlash began to build Monday, Smith tweeted: ‘yo i got the twiiter goons on my back!’ For the series, J.R. is 15-for-44 from the field.”

    Pot, meet kettle

Way too many punchlines are available for this comment. I rather not partake in throwing jokes around, but JR Smith has some nerve calling his team selfish. JR SMITH?!?!?!?!? MR. I’m running to the Playoff sign to shoot a 40 ft jumper and when I get the rebound I’m going to repeat this process until I make the shot, but if I make the shot then I’m going to repeat this process until I get on a hot streak, but if I get cold I’m going to repeat this process until I’m hot… I like JR, but hearing this comment from him…Enough said. Yeah my English teachers never taught me how to avoid fragment & run-on sentences.

    youre team down TWO
40 FT Jumper to take the lead
Cant be called a good shot when your’e Center is Wide Open and your team leader has a hot hand

  • Ronald Posted: Apr.27 at 11:52 am
Denver has never been a high assist team, doesn’t exactly make them selfish. Just the way they play, loads of one-on-one sets.

  • Robb Posted: Apr.27 at 1:21 pm
That’s like MeloMan telling someone to use his brain.

  • rico Posted: Apr.27 at 1:23 pm
JR Smith calling his team selfish is like Slam Magazine calling Dime Magazine “sold out”.

  • Anton Posted: Apr.27 at 2:11 pm
    Allen Iverson’s fault.

  • Darksaber Posted: Apr.27 at 2:12 pm
Made the kettle comparison on Twitter then came here to see Riggs absolutely owned it with the “pothead” comment. Laughed my butt off (i followed Earl Smith for about 4 days, then gave up, his tweets areeven more nonsensical than Serena’s).

  • Darksaber Posted: Apr.27 at 2:29 pm
It’s also like Jesse calling Eldrick a disgrace. (what, too soon? Naaah)

  • Sparty's Law Posted: Apr.27 at 2:42 pm
I read the headline and really wanted to write something funny, then I read MeloMan’s comment and decided no more humour was required. But if I had to add to the conversation I would say something along the lines of, JR Smith calling his team selfish is like Kevin Garnett calling someone an d*ickhead.

  • ab_40 Posted: Apr.27 at 3:02 pm
twitter = wack especialy for dumb folks who don’t have their emotions in check

  • matt Posted: Apr.27 at 3:05 pm
there comes a point in every nuggets game where jr will either shoot the nugs in to, or out of the game. game 1 vs jazz he won it for them. 2,3,4 he lost it.

  • Sparty's Law Posted: Apr.27 at 3:12 pm
@Matt – so true. Some nights he looks like the best player on the floor and other nights you just cringe every time he touches the ball.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Apr.27 at 4:01 pm
Nuggs playd poorly as a whole, jr isnt the single reason they lost

  • mems Posted: Apr.27 at 4:05 pm
JR Smith calling his team selfish is like Allen Iverson telling his team they need to practice

  • BEEZIE! Posted: Apr.27 at 4:32 pm
Roffle at Earl Smith calling anyone selfish. That’s like Melo telling LaLa that she’s beautiful

  • Jukai Posted: Apr.27 at 5:00 pm
    Anton wins!!!

  • MikeC. Posted: Apr.27 at 5:23 pm
I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: when JR has managed to shoot himself into the game and heats up, he is damn fun to watch. The only problem is that by the time he’s microwaved himself into a zone, he’s shot his team out of the game and then needs his hot streak to shoot them back in.

  • letsmotor Posted: Apr.27 at 5:53 pm
    lol mems. best one.

  • Noel Posted: Apr.27 at 6:13 pm
Like Dwight telling his team they need to stay out of foul trouble

  • ABIMATOR Posted: Apr.27 at 7:44 pm
Like Dirk calling his teammates “soft”

  • Holiday Posted: Apr.27 at 8:28 pm
Really the reason they can’t hang is that Dantly can’t coach! Especially against a basketball Icon like J. Sloan, pretty much they needed Karl to even compete. but it would have been a great series, Go Jazz!

  • Holiday Posted: Apr.27 at 8:32 pm
It’s like Melo calling somebody else that punched a guy from behind and ran, a coward! Oh and they need a real coach like Karl to compete, Dantly can’t coach!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Apr.27 at 10:08 pm
It’s like Ron Artest telling Dennis Rodman to stop copying him.

  • the_baller20 Posted: Apr.28 at 9:21 am
No J.R No. Melo just has to do everything on the court because nobody else on the team wants to pick the slack. So YOU are being selfish J.R for even saying that stupid comment.

  • Lucas Posted: Apr.28 at 10:02 am
This is what happens when Karl isn’t around to manage these head cases.
