Kevin Garnett: Suspended, Dissed

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The news came down from the League yesterday afternoon, and it wasn’t exactly shocking. KG’s elbow connected with Quentin Richardson’s face late in Game 1, a foolish act seen by millions around the world. Given its recent history and reactions to similar incidents, the NBA had no choice but to suspend Kevin for Game 2 of the series.

While there was really no question as to what his punishment would be, the only item of interest left was the reaction from others from Garnett’s behavior. Let’s just say that his opponents are less than impressed.

Joakim Noah, the floor is yours. From Chicago Breaking Sports:

“I’m going to say it: He’s a dirty player,” Noah said following Bulls practice Sunday.

“I don’t make the decisions,” Noah said. “But he’s always swinging elbows man. I’m hurting right now because of an elbow he threw. It’s unbelievable. He’s a dirty player. It’s one thing to be competitive and compete. But don’t be a dirty player man. He’s a dirty player. That’s messed up. I’m really excited about that (Heat-Celtics) series. It’s going to be fun. I hope they put (Jamaal) Magloire in.”

Jamaal Magloire is a rarely-used big man for the Heat, with the obvious implication that he would foul Garnett hard. “He knows what he’s doing,” Noah said. “It’s messed up. It’s wrong. It’s not right. And then after that to say … whatever I shouldn’t even be talking about this stuff. It’s crazy.”

It’s a shame the Bulls have virtually no chance of getting out of their series with Cleveland for the chance to meet up with the Celtics in the second round.

Q-Rich (whose bank account suffered a $35K hit from the NBA) also did not have anything nice to say about Garnett and teammate Paul Pierce, labeling the two of them as “actresses.”

The only person who seems to have anything nice to say about KG these days is Michael Beasley (who received compliments from the vet.) One gets the feeling that this will change as the series progresses.

the comments on here are hilarious, also joakim noah….stfu please.

  • hillbilly

I wonder how much royalty money Bill Cartwright gets whenever a guy lands a no-look elbow to the face of another guy.

  • Lupe

So KG Finally Got Suspended, yet this makes me question Kobe’s Elbow last year when he was trying to knock Artest’s head off!!! Double Standard here … But anyway KG deserved it

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

@BostonBaller; it makes me polite. Since the Anthony Peeler elbow back in 2004, I have had no fear of Kevin Maurice Garnett. Whatsoever. Sorry.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

And Lmao @ Anton, that was funny because it sounds extremely true

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

Get real man. Everyone is on here bashing KG, but no one is pointing out the fact that QRich had absolutely NO BUSINESS being over there. KG was checking on his injured teammate and here comes Q acting like a d*ck. He wasn’t over there to see if PP was OK because they’ve ahd a little beef for years. He got what he deserved and so did KG for that matter.

And he didn’t really run as much as he got grabbed up by Magloire, plus all the pushing and shoving that O’neal and Haslem were doing.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

My sincere apologies Bostonballer, that “hoodrule” comment was a joke.

  • barnabusb

The real question in all of this is: why the f*ck was Pierce laying on the floor like he was shot if it was his shoulder that hurt? Why not stand up after he fell down and walk to his OWN bench, holding the arm and asking for the medics? Why did he just lay there like it was a big deal when it wasn’t? The Celtics suck.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

dfrance21. Do you really believe that? Do you really believe if someone is “acting like a d*ck” then they “deserve” to get elbowed in the face? Wow. This guy is trying to defend KG when KG is one of the biggest D*ck’s in the League…

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

For the record, even if someone is annoying the sh!t out of you it doesn’t mean you can go ahead and elbow them in the face. What are you going to say? He started it?
    Grow up.

  • The Philosopher

I just don’t understand this one. I mean, Garnett is this, that… but, HE CAN’T EVEN FIGHT ANYWAY!!!

  • BostonBaller

@bamabusb:Sometimes an injury has you stopped in your tracks regardless of where you are..If you’ve ever played sports on any real level you would know that even a “stinger” halts you and you just want to be left alone for a moment. @defrance: QR has every right to be there, it’s his bench, regardless of his intentions. @ Spaceship: No apologies needed, we’re just having fun man. There aren’t many real tough guys in the L. Remember my man Parish on Laimbeer? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idA9Vym1F54) He stood there waiting for him to get up and earlier when Laimbeer chocked Bird down Bird turns over and just starts punching him. Classic NBA. lol

  • LA Huey

@tavoris, nothing constructive here. Just love being able to repeat “Dikembe Mutombo Mplondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo”

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

@Niq are you saying he didn’t start it? Because if he hadn’t wanlked over there, none of that stuff would have went down. Thats just common sense. And yes, in this instance, he deserved to get elbowed in the face. I’m a Garnett lover and i’m not ashamed to admit it. There are a lot of Garnett haters on here, who if the tables were turned, would be saying “Yeah KG is a d*ck, he deserved to be elbowed.” So let me have my opinion.

  • Jalepino Sausage

BUT ANYWAYS K.G. a PUSS no doubt. Remember Group Home : Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk, The Crew Bringing the Ruckus No Doubt !!! comes to mind

  • Rob

KG keeps talking trash but he can’t back it up. He’s a b*tch. He doesn’t pick guys his own size, he picks guys his own weight. Now, Anthony Peeler elbowing Garnett was a beautiful thing. And I won’t even start talking about Paulina Pierce, the undisputed queen of wheelchairing. Those two downgrade this game. F*** em both.

  • BostonBaller

What if contributors to this site started “nit picking” the SPELLING of some of you and started labeling you with negatives? That would be wrong and petty but not being hooked on Phonics is a bit wrong too. I’m sorry to say not only are the big words but also the small words are picking on some guys. hahaha

  • tavoris

@barnabus-if something suddenly goes numb on you, any medic/trainer/doctor would tell you to immobilize yourself immediately.
@LaHuey-If they think Garnett’s elbows are dirty, then these kids would have been in tears trying to box out Mutombo

  • Jose

I remember him talkin bout “finally beating up the bully” once you beat up the bully, dont that make u the bully? thats what it looks like.cept this bully complains 2much and has a much bigger ego

  • BostonBaller

Since everyone thinks it’s so refreshing when a guy speaks his mind and gives an “honest” opinion to the media instead of hiding their feelings shouldn’t an elbow in plain sight be refreshing in contrast to all of the elbows thrown down low and behind the refs back? lol. Just kidding but it was too easy to pass up. Time to get back to making my minimum wage..

  • http://www.motherjones.com AndTheJellosJigglin

Only a bostonballer would think that was funny. Id like to say the leprechauns sold their soles, but alas they never had any.

  • erich

    @ dfrance
    Garnett’s Lover?

  • erich

I really have to read carefully before I submit my comment.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@dfrance. lol Wow. I guess there’s no point in trying to argue with someone who doesn’t understand that hitting someone is wrong. Just because someone deserves it doesn’t mean they should get it. Next time your boss pisses you off why don’t you elbow him in the face cause he “deserved” it? Next time someone cuts you off on the road, why don’t you rear end them cause they deserved it? Man, forget it, I feel like I’m talking to a 5 year old. He mentions common sense but doesn’t use it.

  • BostonBaller

@jigglinjello: Funny? What did I think was funny? What did you misunderstand, my sarcasm? AGAIN, i’ll say the KG elbow was dumb albeit not as hard as it looked or QR would have been TKO’d. That elbow was a 5 or 6 on a scale of 10 if you look at some of the other elbows thrown this past weekend in the heat of the battle. I’m the one who said I would have suspended KG for 2 games on general purposes alone (40 secs left in a win). I know the game, I’ve played the game, I’ve ref’d the game and I coach the game. When you come at me come strong or go home young fella or philly.

  • Donn

This suspension was long overdue in my opinion…Garnett’s been acting like a punk since he came to Boston and seems to be getting worse…

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Kage has been one of my favorite players since his rook year. I would always be quick to defend him during whatever altercation in the past. With that said. I think the trade to Boston has changed him and he IS kinda a jerk now. Instead of being so intense now he seems to just try to act tough. I noticed last year when he came to Portland (which I had tickets for) after time-outs he would walk to center court with his towel and just drop it behind him slowing the game and forcing some ball-boy to run out there and retrieve it.

  • kboogie201

Q’s been having this beef with PP since his Knick days, they used to jaw at each other every time they played the last couple of seasons. I used to be a KG fan until he won his title, now he’s become a studio gangsta. I liked the fact that his act isn’t really working, and dudes is calling him out on it. Players like KG are the reason why I wish my man Charles Oakley was still playing. He’d straighten him out real quick.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

i wonder how bill russell feels about KG nowadays. would you still give him one of your rings?

  • mike tyson

i will never forget when garnett ran like a baby from mcdyess. he’s a punk.

  • jamaal16

Nobody is saying how q rich was following him to catch that elbow!

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    ^^ Mmmm. That’s deep.

  • http://alan.george@gmail.com Breeze

Well the bigger outlook on this incident is what kind affect it will have on the series. Will it actually make maimi heat-up for this supposed upset or is it even a upset. Im looking forward to the response and I agree that one game is a susperstars suspension that elbow was fool!

  • http://www.motherjones.com AndTheJellosJigglin

@bostonbrawler. Correct me if I am wrong, but you thought your joke was funny, hence the “lol” Or does that stand for Little Obese Leprechaun? Im glad you think you “know the game” I never said that you did not know it, or play it, or officiate it. Youre making light of dirty elbow throwing, and its not funny to me, that is all. Have fun with your minimum wage! Ill stay home and keep making great money. Thank you, fella or philly, keep coming strong.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Wheelchair Pierce is not from Englewood, acting like that, plus Garnett is a skinny punk, everybody knows its, he never trys his baby games with dudes who will get him. Always shorter dudes, The Celtics and Garnett are one trick ponies. thats it. Dennis Johnson is rolling over in his grave with players like Garnett on their team.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Boston Baller
I don’t think the elbow was that lightweight. That was a nice elbow, you could see how Q’s face changed up that it really stung. And, unlike Mutombo or Cartwright, KG ran AWAY.
That dude was damn near skipping to get out of the scrum!
That’s lame. I mean, at least Mutombo would look at you all innocent. KG was running away like he was trying to calm things down. Just fake. I think Q was getting ready to bruise him.
Like I said, I was and still am a KG fan. But, the Peeler incident (which I originally game him the benefit of the doubt for) along with the Zaza thing from last year and Garnett’s penchant for turning down the volumne when he’s around certain cats is starting make me wonder about him.

  • http://www.motherjones.com AndTheJellosJigglin

Paul Pierce is the worst head first dribbler in the league. I used to be a Celtics fan but his play made me puke in my mouth several times a game. No wonder he got shanked by his own fans in his own town.

  • erich

    Jamaal??????????

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Honestly, the league needs to stop it with these stupid suspensions. He elbowed Q in the face–okay. That’s why he got EJECTED. Was Q injured? No. Was it THAT big of a deal? No.
It’s the freaking playoffs for crying out loud! Tempers are GOING to flare.
Garnett’s ejection hurts the Celtics pretty d@mn badly…

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

I was at the game and knew KG or ‘Sheed would do something dumb like this as soon as the melee started. I am a huge Ticket fan but agree that it was such a bad choice to do that-the fact that it could’ve cost them the game just makes it worse. But I do have to disagree w/those claiming he “ran away.” He was pushed away actually. Very disappointed in Ticket. Still a fan though? Yes. Any Celtics fan knows that this team has lacked fire (putting it mildly)this year and if this is what it takes to wake a sleeping giant, so f***ing be it. Go Celtics.

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

@AndTheJellosJigglin Whoa whoa…whoa. You’re kidding right? Maybe you should Google “Roscoe Ragland.” Or “Trevor Watson”. Far from “fans.” Idiot.

  • barnabusb

@Teddy: If you could just get ejected and then come back to play in the next game, there’d be flying elbows left and right in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter.

  • vic21

Noah is just mad cus he’s never going to be half the player KG IS let alone WAS

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    barnabusb: Good point.

  • JD

Haha KG just doesn’t wanna get old! :)

  • jon_03

KG is a good player, being sportsman is another.

  • http://www.motherjones.com AndTheJellosJigglin

    Fans. In Boston. No wonder.

  • http://www.motherjones.com AndTheJellosJigglin

But really its not a surprise. It is Boston after all.

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

    both teams trash-talked hard….?

  • http://www.euroleague.net/competition/all-decade/main-page/i/64902/4259/euroleague-all-decade-selection-theodoros-papaloukas?lang=en&itemid=64902&mid=4259&tabid=1143&itemname=EUROLEAGU PAPALOUKAS (click on my name)

Noah is true but i always thought that it is unfair to blame KG for all this stupid/ugly behaviour throughout his career. Unlike Iverson (who is more on the lazy side) KG is clearly “not the smartest person in the world” (i don’t know how to say it more politely )which was the main reason he couldn’t fullfill his ‘once in a lifetime’ physical tools. Inteligence deficiencies (obvious to many KG on-court related insidents/habits/reactions) is not someones choice.
@Allenp…..:KG and “Anna” are you favorite all time players…??? I hope you are simply an “AACAP” member…(kiding)
