Scott Skiles on C.O.Y Award: ‘No Comment’

Skiles gave the Journal Sentinel some pretty hilarious reactions to finishing second in the voting of the Coach of the Year award: “Bucks coach Scott Skiles was asked his thoughts about finishing as runner-up in the league coach of the year voting, an honor that went to Oklahoma City’s Scott Brooks. His answer: ‘No comment.’ Later, a reporter (this one) asked Skiles if he would have commented had he won the award. He just smiled, gave a shrug and said, ‘Get out the pom-poms.’ It’s not fake modesty, it’s just that Skiles really doesn’t care what a panel of sports writers and broadcasters is doing with those ballots. His concern is with the performance of his team, and right now, his total focus is on Game 3 of the Bucks’ playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. But his players thought he deserved the attention that goes with being a top candidate for the award. ‘He’s done a good job of turning this team around, bringing the right attitude, the right mindset, the right style of play,’ Bucks forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute said. ‘I’m happy to be playing for him. Too bad he didn’t win it, but that’s a good sign that he came in second.”‘

Nice, I like that. I bet he’s happier he won his first playoff game (against the defending champs, #1 seed no less), than he is about the award.

I don’t think you can argue with the selection. Scott Brooks getting 50 wins in the West with the youngest team in the league is amazing.

Definitely need to give Brooks his due, but personally, I think Skiles was absolutely robbed – nobody did more with less (45 wins for a team that was slated to be a bottom-dweller).

the thunder are much more talented than the bucks. Skiles deserved the award. Brooks benefited from the media’s enfatuation with durant, and the attention that brought onto his team

sorry, but winning 50 games in the west having a 21 year old leading your team, while making a bunch of teenagers play stingy and tough defense, deserves COY, hands down

  • JOE!

Skiles should get cause he got the Bucks in the playoffs! THE BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! The Clippers of the East! THE BUCKS………… where nothing happens!

It’s not a big deal. A lot of COY winners get fired the next year. Brooks will probably be canned in the middle of next season when the Thunder underperform, due to them not being able to sneak up on teams anymore, and management needs to be able to pin the blame on someone.

He deserves it, but never know what happens next season (or seasons). Many coaches of the year have got fired.

I don’t usually say this, but co-sign RedRum.

When will Greg Popovich ever get the f*cking award? He could have won it pretty much every single year of this decade, yet he has none. Wow.

  • Justin

Teddy-the-Bear, Popovich can have it the year after Jerry Sloan gets his
