Sweep Ends Dwight Howard’s Foul-Plagued Series

In four games against the overmatched Bobcats, Dwight was kicked out due to foul trouble twice. It was a frustrating experience for Howard, the team, and of course his coach. The Orlando Sentinel reports: “They really needed a referee at the end to get between Dwight Howard and coach Stan Van Gundy. I joke, of course. Howard had fouled out Monday night in the close-out game for the second time in the series, ending the most frustrating period of his professional career. Van Gundy, always coaching, felt Howard could have done something different defensively on the play against Raymond Felton. Van Gundy probably would want to have back that exchange with his superstar, but that’s who he is. He coaches until the final whistle, no matter the score. Howard knows this from all the years of  Van Gundy in his ears, but that was a tipping point after four games of hearing whistles, fouling out twice, and he needed to vent. Happens more than you think. But Howard needs to appear regularly as the series moves on, likely against the Atlanta Hawks.”

It’s gonna be worse when he faces the King who will average 6 And 1 dunks on Howard each game in the sweep.

I hope EVERY team that find themselves up against the MAGIC have taped that 1st round series… Dwight Howard CANNOT correct his poor positioning and decision making – and to think this guy is currently the leagues best centre??????????????????

and that is why he should not be ANYWHERE on ANYONE’S MVP ballot, he is a good player playing with a GREAT TEAM, D-WADE on this team would win the title hands down

wow, people have jumped all over howard apparently. is no one going to acknowledge that some of those calls happened due to acting and questionable officiating?

did no one see the foul where dwight howard stood completely still, hands up, and felton jumps into him….and they call a foul. what else can a guy do? i agree with chiqo. Next series orlando will play either atl or the bucks, neither have a a guy who can guard dwight (horford is too small). By the end of next series people will be back on the bandwagon

D12 you’re right, he’s being treated unfairly, but yesterday he did some pretty stupid fouls. He needs to be more intelligent, otherwise he’ll have foul problems all his career.

are we to believe that howard is suddenly playing more stupidly than he did in the regular season? or is it possible that this was a part of the bobcats game plan? i don’t want to say that howard didn’t commit some dumb fouls, but it was clear to me that charlotte had every intention of getting him out of the game. and some coach is going to look at that and try to replicate it. but it won’t be the cavs, cause shaq has too much pride and mike brown doesn’t create game plans.
