Tracy McGrady’s Favorite Sport? Not Basketball

We’ve already linked to this article, but now we want to point something else out. You can tell it from his disinterested play occasionally, but Tracy McGrady admitted to NY Times’ Howard Beck that basketball isn’t his favorite sport.

“‘I love baseball right to this day more than I love basketball,’ he said, lounging at the Knicks’ hotel here earlier this week. ‘I love it. I love it.’”

Make of this info what you will.

If I played for the Knicks right now, I’d love baseball more too.

  • Fat Lever

I wouldnt be surprised if he likes baseball because you don’t have to be in shape to excel in the sport.

THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED LIKE 6 YEARS AGO WHEN TMAC WAS GOOD. RHEY EVEN HAD HIM TAKING BP WITH A MLB TEAM

  • TyMo

I could have told you as much.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Last year, he dissed his own team by saying the Lakers are his fave to win the chip. Now he disses his OWN PROFESSION. Can’t wait for the next playoffs he’ll miss, when he says that Russia shoulda won the cold war.

  • mems

he has said this repeatedly for years now. not a big deal. if slam reported on anyone other than bron and kobe you guys might have known that…….

  • ab_40

Anyone remember the feature I did in KING Magazine on this topic?

  • http://Twitter.com/pdxgaybball Dma

Everybody knows this. When the Bulls were trying to sign him eons ago he threw out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

  • sp

He has said this from the very beginning, it’s not new. He said he was a pitcher and baseball was his first love.

  • RV

He’s only said this for his whole career…old news..

  • Stillballin

Hey he don’t have to use his knee to play baseball..

  • doyouwantmore

“Tracy Mcgrady don’t even like basketball.” – Me, about two years ago.

  • Dtown

since when does an athlete’s favorite sport have to be the one he plays??

  • Mr. West

aint that something? Tracy McGrady aka the greatest player to play the game. Wait is April Fool’s over?

  • magicmic

  • Shaqsbuddy

o good thing cuz ur not tat good at basketball mr glass

  • Shem

This guys washed up, he’s only making news with his mouth and not his game

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Seems like SLAM is just riding the “Kick McGrady when he’s down” bandwagon; this story is nothing new. McGrady has always expressed his love for baseball. Bad post, SLAM, I thought your site was above this.

  • Chang

If TMac was in baseball…you know what he would say…”Basketball is my favorite sport..I love it. I love it. I love it. My favorite team is the Washington Generals.”

  • Groves@UWA

    lol@chang.
but i do like tmac, one of my favourite players, he can still come and contribute as a scorer to any team (but make him come off the bench

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

You guys who blame T-Mac’s love for baseball as the reason he’s not the best player in the world.
I recall Jordan saying baseball was his ‘first love’. Explain that to me?
Also, if you guys aren’t in the second round of the NBA playoffs this year you all love something else more than basketball. Am I right?
Also, I should go get a job I love most in the world, because not being the greatest in the world at it means I don’t love it enough. There is no other reason I’m not the best.
    Seriously.

the way i figure it, your always going to want to be elsewhere other than at the work place right boss?

  • Ryhar

Hey, did you know the sky is blue? It blew my mind when I found out about it.

This story is extremely old. And even if it wasn’t, what is the point of even posting it? Slow news day?

I love my career, but I can also think of about 5 other lines of work I’d love to be doing instead. So who cares?

  • Kyle

This is not news… he’s always said this. When Houston still loved him, and the Astros were still a team competing to at least make the playoffs, he’d go do BP with the Astros. All he did wrong was get hurt, sort of like Yao.

I remember when Penny and Grant Hill kept getting injured, and so-called basketball fans and experts would rip on them for being soft. It’s pretty lame. Jordan also loved baseball.
