Wade: ‘This Will Be My Last First-Round Exit for a While’

Dwyane was visibly (and understandably) upset following the Heat’s elimination from the Playoffs last night. Feel free to read the tea leaves from his comments to the assembled press regarding his future: “After scoring 46 points in Sunday’s lone Heat victory in the series, Wade clearly was spent. By anyone else’s standards, Wade’s final line of 31 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds would be considered winning numbers. And they would have been, if he had teammates such as the Celtics’ Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Instead, he ended his season alongside rental properties such as Quentin Richardson, who, it was learned, played in Tuesday’s series finale with a torn ligament in his left thumb sustained Sunday. ‘This will be my last first-round exit for a while, I’ll tell you that,’ Wade said, stopping short of definitively committing to a future with the Heat, as he heads into this summer’s free agency.”

Tha title smells of Chicago…Bulls that is

  • Rikson

Hes gone for good! Great Job by the heat….

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

the heat have quality players. they just dont play like a team. i know wade, beasely, haslem, anthony, wright, and chalmers even would be sought after by quality teams. even o’neal by some

  • TyMo

All eyes on you, Riles. Let’s see what you got.

  • Buschfire

O’neal was a bust in T.O, he’s still a bust in Miami. Wade come to Canada! hahaha

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

i guess that means he’s leaving. or riley’s gonna polish that turd up real nice.

  • http://www.nottherealmelvinely.com melvin ely

Spoelstra’s not coming back for another season I’ll tell you that much, if you’re trying to lure FAs into Miami, does anyone here think playing for Spoelstra’s actually going to sound enticing?

  • AL29

They have to get Bosh, Stoudemire or Lebron (in order of likelihood), or Wade is OUT.

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

The Heat have a ton of money to work with this off season. They could resign Wade, add a top level free agent, and still have $9-10 Mil to sign another player. They are sitting pretty right now. However, only time will tell what they do. Wade sold his house in south Florida already so who knows if he wants to stay. There are a lot of teams out there with the money to get him and who could use him for a long playoff run.

RoG23 – no, they’re not “quality”, and that’s the point. i very much agree with Mr Wade – this is the last time he’ll be packing his fishing gear in April. he should make the most of his holiday…

  • mj23

As long as he’s not in Miami. Pair him up with D-Rose, and the Bulls would be unstoppable.

    A good as gone.

  • mike

He’s staying – they’ll be pulling in Bosh or Stoudemire is what he’s alluding to

  • MikeC.

I guess the Heat are finally going to let me run the point for them. It’s about time they came to their senses and went after a top-notch PG.

  • http://p p

I really would not be suprised if he went to Chi, all the pieces are there just for him…

  • The Philosopher

He ain’t goin nowhere. I hope, anyway.

  • http://www.solecollector.com NDP

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Spoelstra. While I like the guy, and Riley definitely seems to as well, he just doesn’t command the respect from his players to get an effort throughout the whole game. Look at teams like Milwaukee/ Utah/ OKC and the effort they give on a nightly basis. JVG would be hilarious considering the Knicks/Heat 90s battles, but I also think he’d be a commanding voice that players would respect. The roster will be entirely refreshed and able to compete, but who they seek out as Coach will be equally important, because Spoelstra just hasn’t worked in maximizing the role players and having a good system.

  • Robb

Dwayne, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Man you gotta go to Chicago, tough players with lots of attitude there, Rose is an Allstar, Noah will never let you die alone, the whole team are fighters. This could be your last first round exit and Chicago’s last first round exit. It all makes sense. Get there already! Miami is nice but they’re going nowhere, not even if they add Bosh.

  • BostonBaller

The most telling part of his “gone fishin’” interview was when alluded to the fact that it depends on what Miami does whether or not he will be talking to them about an extension. he said they know where he stands. as far as Wade to Chicago, that sounds exciting but not practical. He and Rose are too similar and rose would not be assertive enough with his “shy” demeanor to impose his will in games like he does now. It sounds great to have 2 C ?Can you imagine Bosh there doing his thing with Wade AND having Ray ready to hit big 3′s? hi-Town guys but who knows, I just hope Ray allen doesn’t leave to be a part of a Miami resurgence. Stay Ray stay….Green is your color. lol

  • underdog

That’s what T-Mac has been saying since… forever.

  • J-City

I don’t see him going to Chicago, that is and always will be MJ’s town. He’d just be playing in his shadow in a way.
Most likely he’ll lure Bosh to Miami. We’re gonna miss you CB4!

  • NAS

@ RoG23: the ONLY quality player outside of wade on the heat team is HASLEM, outside of that they are all bums, the heat would be LUCKY to get FLIP MURRY for beasley who seems to be a cross between DERRICK COLEMAN and JR RIDER

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Everybody that thinks Wade in Chicago won’t work is NUTS. They might not win a title or anything, but him and rose would terrorize every other backcourt in the L. Derrick Rose’s “shy” (only off the court) demeanor will not effect how he plays with Wade. Wade has proven that he works on his Jumper every summer, and there is not ONE team in the whole NBA that could keep both those guys out of the paint. And Wade being assigned as the gatekeeper to the Jordan Shoe Legacy (whatever you wanna call it) should be proof enough he doesn’t mind being in the man’s shadow.

  • Stillballin

He didn’t have enough help in Miami.he’ll be in a different team next season.. Hope he’ll end up in a better situation..he still one of the superstar in this league..

  • ClydeSays

Riles is going to need a legit PG, a low post scorer/defender at PF & a solid defensive/rebounding center in order to keep Wade happy.

Bosh makes sense, not sure about center or PG.

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

i don’t think a pg is too important, since wade’s going to do most of the ball handling anyway. they need to focus on getting some decent bigs. also, i don’t understand why people want wade to go to chicago. i don’t see how he and rose would play well together. they’re very much the same type of player, and i can’t picture them on the floor together.

  • Lloyd

I like hearing this frustration about losing. This is the kind of attitude that would take a pay cut to bring in some quality help or would take a pay cut to be on a contender. The scenario with Wade/Bosh/Allen is pretty intriguing. I’d assume it’s pretty far fetched though!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

If you want to know why the Heat lost so early in the first round look no further than JO. He was shooting horrendously and they just kept feeding him.

  • JD

Bring CB4 or LeBron to Miami!(Or both)

  • RedRum

it is a shame that a player this great has spent 3 years getting knocked off in the 1st round… how does a team goes from rings to this so fast? OK, Bulls did it but we all know Krause is a dolt, and even the Lakers after their 3-peat maintained an elite status for 2 years.

  • sammy

HMmmm not that he will ever do it but what about the bucks, they have a nice team there wade there they can be a contender……I dont know what their salary situation is and I am not even a bucks fan buut just something to think about…I hope that the heat keep him tho and lure in a big free agent….!

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Wade is not going anywhere. Bosh or amare will be going to mia. Plus other good players, kirk? I think kirk would fit perfectly with wade

  • Yesse

So this means Riley better get good players or lose Dwyane.

  • peter

GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOO BULLLS. ROSE AND WADE! it still utilizes the bull’s main offensive strategy 2 guard combo. instead now you have 2 explosive ones instead of just hinrich and rose. hinrich’s great but wade needs to complete his jordan transformation xD. giving the heat hinrich and probably deng with cash considerations sounds pretty good.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

wade and rose can’t be imagined because there’s never been anything like it! that would be unstoppable! hinrich’s too inconsistent to be a starting guard.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

Come get your roebels with Evans or Wall. From the Rock to the Yards.
Did they ever settle on a name. Here’s one “Brooklyn Yardsmen”, for all my machete toting, coconut sipping dreads in the BK.
For real; “No sleep till Brooklyn”!!!!!

  • The Philosopher

I agree with Tarzan Cooper totally.

  • Shem

Hmmm, Arroyo and Chalmers at point, Richardson at small, Haslem and O’neal…. EVEN Bosh has more support then that

  • Rikson

Wade to CHI for sure! Everybody wants to play at home…

  • Rikson

    Where is my post!

  • Elias

Sweet home Chicago. Him and Rose will be sick.

  • Rikson

It’s gonna be good times for bulls fans (again)…

  • Rikson

Good times for bulls fans…. (half of my comments won’t show up – administrator I’m looking in your direction!)

  • slawson

Celts should go after him. Ray Allen is great, but Wade is better.

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

I guess if you dont make the playoffs, your not getting knocked out of t first round hey??// Hey??

  • tyrus

whether Wade is in Chicago or returns back to Miami he will have another superstar along side him because if he stays in Miami they have the money to go out and spend on one of the many all-stars available and who wouldn’t kill to play with Wade and live in Miami. but if he goes to the Chi a Wade/Rose combo would b historical.

  • neaorin

Surprised everyone stopped talking about Boozer to Miami but I’d say it’s as likely as ever.

  • jdote

would anyone trade devin harris for beasley str8 up, and then get amare

  • Chris

Pairing Dwyane Wade with Derrick Rose would give the Bulls the best backcourt in the NBA. That combo has the potential to be the new version of Jordan & Pippen. Who would or could guard those two?
