76ers Widen Search, Will Interview Laimbeer, Majerle

As Kate Fagan reports on Philly.com: “The 76ers coaching search is now 23 days old and, to this point, there have been exactly two known interviews: Doug Collins and Avery Johnson. Of course, the list is expanding almost daily and the list now includes a scheduled interview with former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell set for Sunday, and interviews with Phoenix Suns assistant Dan Majerle and Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams set for Monday. A new addition to the search will also be former Detroit Pistons’ “Bad Boy” Bill Laimbeer, who last season served as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves and who previously won two WNBA titles as head coach of the Detroit Shock. According to a source, Sixers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski will be meeting with Laimbeer on Sunday, a few hours after his interview with Mitchell. By the end of Monday, Stefanski will have interviewed six candidates: Collins, Johnson, Mitchell, Laimbeer, Williams, and Majerle.”

    Thunder Dan isn’t ready. Yet.
Give him a few more seasons. I don’t even think he’s the head assistant for the Suns right now. (Correct me if I’m wrong however).

People should stop messing about and give the Little General a job.

Is Aaron Mckie not interested? What ever happened to Cheeks? He was decent just forced to coach bad teams.

It’s about effing time. I would fully sopport either of the two. Even if they gave it to a more qualified coach, he would be gone in two years anyway.

Laimbeer would be a brilliant move by Philadelphia.

We’ll take Laimbeer please. Maybe he can help us sign Cheryl Ford to bring some toughness to the frontcourt.

Isn’t Cheeks the head assistant for OKC? I swear I’ve seen him on the sidelines for the Thunder.

@Hursty, Yea Cheeks is an OKC assistant coach. He’s one of the reasons Westbrook and Maynor are playing as good as they are :D

Never understood why Johnson didnt get a chance to coach somewhere after dallas – he did pretty well….

Avery, Sam, Monty. Avery has winning experience, Sam the toughness, and Monty apparently has the support of basketball minds.
And when Michael Scorn comments on something that doesn’t include Lebron, I do a double take.

Lets get serious for an NY minute… Throw enough $$$ at Phil Jackson and I’m sure he would come coach… certainly if they got 3 superstar players and John Wall…

  • JoeMaMa

Dacre: no way. No way, ever. He’s getting paid 12 million a year to coach superstars in LaLa land. Philly can’t afford his salary, doesn’t have the players, and last time I checked, Philly ain’t L.A. Their money’s tied up…and even if they got Wall, Phil wants to win now; dude’s too old to wait years for more rings. I could maybe see Cleveland. Cleveland or LA.

AVERY. tough, defensive minded. and i’m wondering what would he do on that chip on his shoulders saying “Golden State Warriors”. but honestly i think he’s a great coach.
