Akron’s Mayor Doesn’t Want LeBron in New York

You know a guy’s free agency is a big deal when politicians start getting involved. Your move, Bloomberg: “LeBron James’ hometown mayor ratcheted up the rivalry between Cleveland and New York Thursday, ripping the Big Apple as a place unfit for any self-respecting Ohioan. ‘Who the hell would want to live in New York?’ Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic told the Daily News. ‘I think what he has here is a real connection to people. I hope he always remembers that, because there’s a lot of things in life that are more important than an extra million or two.’ The Cavaliers’ power forward is the reigning two-time NBA MVP – and set to hit the open market as a free agent July 1 … Plusquellic conceded he’s quaking over the possibility James will flee Akron’s scruffy suburbs – where the NBA great still owns a home – to play on the world’s biggest stage. ‘For sure, I’m worried about him leaving,’ Plusquellic said. ‘You don’t want to lose a guy like that. He means so much for this community.”‘

He’s right, there are more important things than an extra million or two… winning championships, for instance.

  • TyMo

    Well this is shocking news

  • Morgan

he’s not the cavs power forward. Although he is powerful if he can get the mayor talking about him – aren’t there other things going on in Ohio?

  • Fat Joe

LeBron got a position in Terror Squad if he comes to New York.

LeBron got a position in SNL if he comes to New York.

I hate to say it, but LeBron is the only thing that makes Cleveland relevant right now.

At least … Cleveland is not Detroit.

As Morgan pointed out, dude is not a power forward, although he could be called a POWER “small” forward. Also, NY ain’t my cup of tea either (I’m more of a 312 kind of cat) but in response to the Mayor’s ‘Who the hell would want to live in New York?’ question….. umm, about 8.3 million people, homie.

Mr. Mayor I hate to say this but LBJ is a business man. If he happens to suck at his game would you keep him? If you were the biggest and baddest fish in a small pond would you stay there or would you leave for the ocean? Maybe there’s something about Cleveland that he’s not content with. I don’t think money is the issue here because his endorsement alone is more than enough to feed the state of Ohio!*LBJ is a legit point guard, shooting guard, small forward and power forward. Thats what makes him so valuable.

But didn’t Lebron say a primary goal of his to become “the richest man in the world” ?

  • Klemperer

    is* to become.

  • Coconut

I thought LeBron was the mayor of Akron?

  • shone jones

The question should be “Who the hell wants to live in Akron?”

LeBron got the lead role in my next film if he comes to New York.

There are no terror threats and livng with anxiety in Cleveland or Akron. Ohio is loaded with nice people. New Yorkers, well like Jesse jackson said, itis “hymie town”. You also become a jerk when you move to New York. Hey New York, you keep raiding other cities for players. Why don’t you do it like everybody else you spoiled little brats, and that is, through the draft and good trades along with owners that are respected. Like people are stupid not to know how those yankees have won their titles in the last thirty(30) years………..they bought it, they never earned it. Just like the los angles lakers….same crap. I’d worry about bombs going off instead of raiding Cleveland you punks.

Somebody rival ESPN…………..they have worn out their welcome just like david stern and bud selig. The fans in Cleveland and Akron never gave Lebron the name of King James. That came from those idiots on Sportscenter(stuart scott aka buckwheat from the little rascals)! If LeBron leaves Cleveland, then why have teams both in basketball and baseball in other cities other than New York and Los Angeles? No integrity left in both of these sports. I say boycott all sports. Shame on you david stern and bud selig. Fans are not stupid.

  • Tony

Draft your own players you spoiled brats. I’d pay more attention to keeping your city safe than raiding a nice city of Cleveland. I mean New york, you are like the republicans. You are mean just like them. If things don’t go your way, you cry. See living in Ohio, and especially Cleveland, there are no traffic jams, rude people, and arrogant punks. You actually live a nice life. LeBron isn’t erving johnson or tiger woods. It isn’t about just him like the the other two I just mentioned. New York would probably get him arrested or he becomes a huge jerk. Start watching hockey as there are no jerks, no tattoos, and no commissioner pushing for an always New York and Los Angeles final. isn’t it Joe Morgan who keeps referring to baseball when he is on television, “for the integrity of the game?” Are you kidding me?

  • Tony

By the way, I live in Dallas, Texas. Cleveland deserves better and I’m going to stick up for them. They do, have the best fan base around the world, something ESPN and especially, “buckwheat”(stuart scott) and “coke bottles(scott van pelt) won’t tell you. Maybe Bloomberg, the New York rat, should worry about why nobdy is buying Jets season tickets in the city Jesse Jackson referred to, as, “hymie town”. Does Bloomberg have a fat ugly kid like Guiliani?
