Chris Bosh’s Twitter Angering Raptors Fans, Media

Each time Chris updates his Twitter account, fans and reporters of the Raptors die a little on the inside. Here’s the latest from the Toronto Star: “Slowly but surely, Chris Bosh is giving Toronto the kiss-off, and causing a minor Twitterquake in the process. The Raptors’ all-star forward – at least, that’s his designation until July 1, when the NBA declares open season on players out of contract – changed his location from Toronto to “Everywhere” on his Twitter account, and removed a biography section that noted his status as Raptors captain. Meantime, his website was listed as down for maintenance on Tuesday morning. As for that appearance courtside at the Staples Centre on Tuesday night, as the Lakers and the Jazz met in an NBA playoff game, Bosh tweeted: ‘Sitting here watching the games wishing I was playing. I wonder if that MVP trophy is heavy?’ Could it be any plainer? Bosh is a technologically savvy fellow whose gift for self-promotion and attention-grabbing on the web has been as deliberate and well-orchestrated as his rise in basketball. Short of offering to wax Bryant’s Bentley with a balled-up Raptors jersey, it looks like a dead giveaway. The alterations immediately fired up a new round of Internet speculation, after Bosh posed a simple “Should I stay or should I go?” question via Twitter last week. That followed a ‘Where should I go next season and why?’ query that evidently wasn’t quite clear enough.”

He’s not getting any MVPs if he teams up with Wade or LeBron… Chicago maybe?

  • barnabusb

Athletes tweeting seems so childish for some reason. It’s cool if it’s stoned college dudes making fun of LeBron’s elbow or something, but professional men asking their fans where they should go just seems a bit weird and desperate.

  • http://kdshgjkhsd.com Boing Dynasty

The Lakers been trying to get dude, Jax caught a tampering fine a few years back for saying he wanted Bosh on the Lakers.

  • Jake

If Bosh ends up in La La land I will cry myself to sleep with tears of joy for the next 3-5 years.I’d take a Pau Gasol/Odom for Bosh trade any day of the week.

  • http://slamonline.com CB 34

    @ jake: Because you’re a moron, that’s why!

  • Migs

As a Raptor fan, I don’t consider myself angry, and I think most Raps fans are pretty cool about it.. Everyone knew he was going to be a free agent, and our team has been treading water for the last few years. Colangelo, in a last-ditch effort, signed Hedo, which turned out to be a monumental disaster. Bosh stuck it out, didn’t make any comments during the season about his future, and should be free to pursue other options to better his career. We’re no strangers to good players wanting out… but life goes on and all we can hope for is a decent return – so no to Aaron Williams + Eric Williams + the corpse of Alonzo Mourning (he’s dead to us), and hope for a true rebuild on this defensively inept franchise

  • Exile

Raps fan here too… and really, I don’t like the way he’s rolling right now, but Bosh deserves to see whats best for him right now. He’s played hard for us and hasn’t pulled a Vince or T-Mac. The Raps organization (of which Bosh is a part) have failed to be a playoff team for a bit and everybody needs to take a hard look at the team, its future and the action required to put this train back on its rails.

  • Ian G

Raps fan here…I really don’t blame Bosh at all for testing out the free market. Toronto has struggled terribly this year, the team did not seem to click as it had in the past, and the price we are paying is losing our best player. Although I am not convinced that he will fill a similar role if/when he leaves Toronto, and I am not sure he will have the same fan support. That being said, I really, really hope he does not go to chicago or any eastern conference team for that matter.

Hopefully he goes to Oklahoma, LA or Dallas if he leaves Toronto

  • SK6

MVP – he is wondering if it is heavy? What a Jerk and a DREAMER! Right now he is a Big Fish in a little pond. If he goes to a “Contender” as he is hoping, he will be just another very good player like a tier 2 player (Arenas, Pierce, Boozer, Joe Johnson, Iguodala) nothing more. If he leaves, Toronto will still hang around 8,9 or 10 spot throughout the season because that is the way they are setup; Bosh’s shots will get spread out among other players and Toronto will continue looking at adding one more player to take them to the next level in the East. I thought he was a classy guy until the last 2 months of the season, all of this Twitter stuff is making him look like an ego maniac.

  • Birks

Who cares? He is not a max money player. He’s soft and isn’t a leader. Barkley was right, he is the Ru Paul of big men.

The bottom line is that Colangelo counted on him to lead the team and he couldn’t get it done. We need a true franchise player to build around.

  • underdog

I’ve got a feeling, Raps fans’ll boo him next year no matter where he ends up.

  • kwame

i dont see bosh in la lakers…mayb clippers…but more likely chicago or ny

  • ezra

actually bosh is pretty much doing exactly what t-mac did by leaving the raptors in the offseason because the raptors were not the best city to play in or the best for his own future

  • Migs

@ezra – main difference is that TMac was on a good team that could’ve potentially won at least the Eastern Conference. The Raps are nowhere near that right now. Nobody should be surprised though about his online ego… he’s always been doing things like this, from doing viral videos with Baron Davis and making all-star ads about himself, to having Twitter follower contests with other NBA players, to doing short spots on Leno, to releasing a DVD – Bosh has been all about media self promotion

  • photman

Raps fan here… Not too troubled by CB4′s tweets.
In fact I hope he leaves, unfortunately Raps have been saddled with guys like Carter, McGrady, Bosh all of whom were/are exceptional talents but none had that fierce competitive spirit that trickled down to their teammates.
Guys like Turk, Bargs are just as bad in terms of fire but with less talent.
Raps need a KG, Gary Payton, Oakley type player to inact a paradigm shift on the team.

    Peace!

  • MikeC.

@Birks – I hear you. I’m a big Knicks fan, and my recurring nightmare (besides the one where NY ends up giving max contracts to Boozer and Rudy Gay), is that NY will sign Bosh in hopes that he’ll lure Lebron or Wade, and we just get Bosh. One correction to your comment. Maybe Barkley repeated the RuPaul comment, but it was Shaq that started it. He got into it with Bosh when he was with the Suns. I think Bosh was complaining about Shaq abusing him in the post, and Shaq said something to the effect that only real men can guard him, that skinny RuPaul doesn’t stand a chance. Something like that. Note do Donnie Walsh: don’t let Bosh put pen to paper unless he’s doing it at the same time as Lebron or Wade. We don’t want just Bosh and a bunch of other dudes. If we get Bosh and just a bunch of other dudes, we’ll be scuffling for that 8 seed, just like the Raptors have been.

  • Scottie Pimpin

if you come to chicago, you better stop this crappy behavior and get us some wins buddy.

  • TIP

“Each time Chris updates his Twitter account, fans and reporters of the Raptors die a little on the inside.”

I think at this point, pretty much all Raptors fans are ready for his departure…

  • guytoofly

this guy needs to shut the hell up. he will never win an mvp if he stays or leaves. On any team that is good, he will most likely be the second or third option. He needs to stop acting like a damn drama queen, and stop blaming toronto for the losses. a couple of years ago when kobe and lebron had no one on their team, they still made the playoffs, and made it deep.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2010/03/paul-pierce-and-the-celtics-hearing-boos/ L

Go to Utah so the lakers could beat him and boozer at the same time

  • Steve

Chris is an all star talent, scores well, has heart and stuck with us Canadians for a lot of bad seasons. don’t blame him for going, blame the management who plainly cannot seem to pull off even a semi intelligent move. Hedo really? 32 year old dude on the decline? Why? Bargs a 7 footer who shoots 3′s? Really? jesus.

Chris will go and make his career, score 20/10 reb a game, become a Duncan like player for a real team like Dallas and do quite well. From your Canadian fans on the west coast: Thank you for the years of being a top class guy playing in our country. you are MILES above any player we’ve ever had.

  • http://www.youtube.com/ The Promise

@Steve: Miles above Vince Carter, in his prime? Come on. He may not have had the fire and the will to win, and he may have quit on them, but in his prime, he was probably the greatest dunker ever. Bosh will never be the greatest at anything, unless he’s the greatest prima-donna.

  • Chriz Botch

7 years and chriz botch aint done nothing for the team…but he sure makes some goofy dorky videos and acts a foo…hes a freaking nerd. how is this lamer gonna be the face of the franchise?

    later rupaul.

  • Holla

@guytoofly, your comment is bang on.

As a Raptors fan. I’m hoping this guy leaves, because only until of recent (Vince in Orlando) no former Raptor star (that wanted out of Toronto) has done anything significant in the playoffs. McGrady hasn’t even made it out of the first round, Carter hasn’t been out of the second round (but that may change), Damon Stoudamire did actually make the Conference finals but still lost. No championships to credit in any of their directions.

  • iLL wiLL

We don’t deserve a player of CB4′s stature. It’s hard to believe it has been 7 seasons already. Damn. I just remember it was so fitting he was a Raptor because his long neck makes him look like a dinosaur.

  • Jake

Actually,Shaq said Bosh was Rupaul not Barkley.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Raptors fans (myself included) have no reason to be angry at Bosh if he chooses to leave. Seriously.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    “Chriz Botch” is an idiot.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Be angry at Bosh for what? For often being the only player on the floor who gives a f*ck on this sorry squad for the last couple of years?

  • Dan

Good player. Has been nothing but the class act for Toronto Raptors over past 7 years. That being said it is probably time to move on for both Chris and the Raptors. My only hope is that Colangelo will be able to get some value back for him. Also, I hope he ends up in the Western Conference.

As far as his twitter, Youtube and DVD business goes — he is known to be a great self-promoter. I don’t see it so much as ego thing, guy is just trying to maximize his value by getting more media attention. It is pure business. That’s all.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

A lot of raptors fans seem to be very level-headed round here, and I like it. Laker fans, take note, this is what the higher road looks like. On topic: if Bosh does decide to go, I hope he does so via sign-and-trade, would be a shame if he gets to walk for nothing.

  • http://twain-ty.blogspot.com boshlookslikearaptor

Chris Bosh looks like a raptor

  • http://big11mel@yahoo.com Big Mel

If u read anyones twitter acccount u r a loser.

  • Birks

The Raptors will be better off without him. He’s not a max player nor a franchise player. He hasn’t led the Raptors to anything in his time here and he shut it down when Colangelo needed him most. He’s a big star in North America’s 4th biggest market but will be a second tier player anywhere else just like Stoudamire, Camby and Carter before him. Wondering how heavy the MVP trophy is? What a joke, like Bosh is good enough to ever win it. His ego is bigger than his game. RuPaul may not be the proper analogy, Jar Jar Binks seems more appropriate given his recent behaviour. He sits courtside and twitters that he wishes he was playing? He could have been if he had moved his butt after the allstar break. Whoever gets him, good luck to you, you’ll need it.

  • Exile

Bosh is a great player, the surrounding cast just does not gel. A poorly constructed team based on hype and good pieces that generally duplicate strengths rather than compliment. Yes, Bosh is a player that I would want over VC in his prime. Yes, I would love hime to stay in Toronto. No, I don’t think anyone should hate on him for “exploring his options.”

  • Dillondemarco

Damn…now ppl on here want to chump Bosh off like he not a good player? But he been dropping 20/10 for years? Raptor fans just mad cuz he dont wanna play for that weak ass team no more? And blame managment for not building a decent team around him

  • TheRuler

Bosh is already gone, Why would you play these games if you waiting for the raptors to make some moves to keep him. So Raptors fans stop worrying. Let him go and start over. I just laugh at all past raptors who left, Mcgrady cant walk, Mighty mouse retired, Carter just sucks. So let him go. In the last 7 years the whole team has changed top to bottom, Only Bosh remains. And they can’t win, and when playoff time comes around he is always hurt. So Good Luck Chris Bosh. Have fun being a big bust Max player like Agent 0 in Washington. lol

  • Peter M. Arel

I like sports or activities during the NBA OWNERS’ STUPID LOCKOUT that I don’t have to pay through the nose to play or watch. I’d like to see the people who live and work in NBA cities NATIONWIDE SAY “DOWN WITH THE NBA!” IF THIS LOCKOUT CAUSES ANY OF THEM TO BECOME UNEMPLOYED OR CAUSES THEIR BUSINESSES TO FAIL BECAUSE NO MONEY IS COMING INTO THEIR CITY;IF/WHEN THE NBA SEASON DOES START UP AGAIN IT IS THE NBA THAT SHOULD BE HOMELESS AND THERE SHOULD BE OTHER EVENTS IN THOSE ARENAS-IN THE CITIES THAT HAVE THEM-THAT WILL MAKE THOSE BUSINESSES FLOURISH AGAINM AND KEEP ARENA EMPLOYEES EMPLOYED!

  • Peter M. Arel

A FAN BOYCOTT SHOULD BE THE #1 RESPONSE TO BEING TOLD THAT THE NBA IS READY TO BEGIN ITS 2012-2013 SEASON.WHY?TO TELL OWNERS AND PLAYERS THAN THE FANS WHO HAVE BEEN TREATED AS AN AFTERTHOUGHT ARE NO LONGER GOING TO “PAY RANSOM TO KIDNAPPERS” BY PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE FOR SPORTS WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO THEM;THESE INCLUDE ACTIVITIES THEY CAN INDULGE IN THEMSELVES THAT COST A MERE FRACTION OF WHAT IT COSTS TO SEE AN NBA GAME! The product the NBA owners are selling is something NOBODY IN HIS RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY FOR ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY;the officiating is deplorable and there is ZERO parity in the NBA!

  • Peter M. Arel

City Officials in Toronto, Ontario(in CANADA)-and in MANY U.S. CITIES AS WELL-SHOULD TELL NBA COMMISSIONER DAVID STERN THAT THEY WILL TELL THEIR CONSTITUENTS NOT TO SUPPORT AN NBA TEAM IN THEIR CITY UNLESS BASKETBALL RESUMES IMMEDIATELY! THIS LOCKOUT IS HAVING AN EXTREMELY ADVERSE EFFECT ON THE LOCAL ECONOMY IN THEIR CITIES, CAUSING BUSINESSES NEAR THE ARENAS TO TANK;CAUSING WIDESPREAD UNEMPLOYMENT AS WELL. UNLESS BASKETBALL RESUMES AT ONCE THERE WILL BE CONCERTS, PUBLIC SKATING AND OTHER EVENTS IN OUR ARENA-BUT NO NBA BASKETBALL!
