Derek Fisher Addresses His Future

D-Fish, a man who is once again rising to the challenge in the postseason, sounds like he expects to be running the point for the Lakers next season. FanHouse caught up with the soon-to-be free agent: “The Los Angeles Lakers point guard will be a free agent this summer. But he wants to stay where he is, and not have to send out any resumés. Talking to Fisher, you get the idea the chances are a lot higher he’ll be back if the Lakers win a second straight NBA crown. ‘I want to play until I can’t,’ Fisher, 35, said. ‘Obviously, I’m hopeful that I’ll be here because I love being here. I’ve played 11 of my 14 years here. I know this better than anybody else. But obviously a lot of (whether Fisher returns) rides on whether Phil (Jackson, the Lakers coach) is back and how we finish the season. If we win a championship, it’s all good. If we don’t, obviously we got to throw out everything and start over and get new guys. So I’m really just trying to stay on the path and realize that I can still play a lot of good basketball.’ Share  He’s doing just that in the playoffs, which is certainly helping Fisher’s chances of a return engagement with the Lakers. In 10 games, Fisher is averaging 10.6 points while shooting 44.6 percent, including an impressive 42.2 percent from three-point range.”

see what nash says after he loses

  • Morgan

You have to love what he has done for them so far but he is always getting beat by quicker guards and I can’t see Jordan Farmer/Shannon Brown playing second fiddle to him for much longer. If they win the title, he’ll no doubt stay (as will everyone but Sasha V)..if they dont..

I can guarantee he won’t be in Utah.

People are still surprised that NBA players want to hang on until the wheels fall off? What other gig out there will pay him 5 mil a year?

A guy named “Mamba” ragging on fisher?? That must actually be Kobe? ^_^

Right there with niQ on that one. Retire or stay in LA.

I could see him doing what Sam Cassell has done. Go from a bench player on a contender to the coaching ranks.

Yo Goat, I missed the postgame interviews. What did Fisher say? did Nash mention anything?

Hey goat did you watch the game? 13pts and 4TO’s for Nash, now that embarrassing.

Fisher went against Westbrook in the first round and Williams in the second. After seeing him keep Nash in check tonight, how can you not respect this guy? Before the playoffs I really thought he would be a weakness for LA, but he’s showing he’s still got it. Great all around play this post season, and even better leadership.
